The restaurant is beautiful and the drinks were good, but that's where it ends. After being sat, we quickly received water, but it took about 15 minutes for anyone to take our drink order even though the restaurant was empty. My wife ordered the Wagyu sliders and the portion was disappointing. She received 3 sliders and each was smaller than a macaroon. Considering the sliders cost only £3 less than the entire wagyu burger, we expected a similarly sized serving. I ordered onion rings as a side for my steak. Our food was brought out without the side of onion rings. I asked the server about the onion rings and was told she would check. She never came back, I finished my meal, and the table was cleared. I never received the onion rings despite asking multiple times. Our original waitress never returned to our table, so I couldn't even find out if she ever put in the order. I ordered my steak medium rare, but it was cooked closer to medium and even leaning towards medium well. Unfortunately, we won't be returning to Christopher's. read more

Food is actually delicious compared to the quality of London food overall. I ordered the waffle twice and my friend loved her hashbrowns and french toast! Food comes out very quickly. The atmosphere is lively and social with all different kinds of folks from the brunch crowd. No bottomless mimosas which I feel is a staple in US brunch culture, but drinks here were pretty expensive so didn't get them. Not great. Genuinely underwhelmed. The service was painful, each time having to repeat to the differing waiting staff what you wanted. Food was decidedly average. The lobster Mac and Cheese wasn't even as tasty as a supermarket one, the steaks were meh. Puddings were nice enough, although the chocolate brownie was way too rich, but lovely and perfect texture! Pecan pie was good. I was freezing as sat bang in the middle so the draft from the stairwell was behind me, so had to put my coat on. £400 for 4 people of which 2 didn't have starters or drinking. Never go to a bar for brunch! The first sign of disappointment was they sat us in the bar area. We ordered omelets with cheese spinach and bacon. Guess what! The omelette didn't have any bacon! When we informed the waiters they said the chef said there's.bacon inside! No bacon! Why are we doing this. We returned all the omelets and they sent the right ones. I've been to Christopher's for drinks many times. However last month I visited with some friends for dinner. The service was perfect. Efficient but not in your face. Perfect for four guys who are out for a good meal and some drinks. I ordered the rib eye for my main - wow! It was delicious. One of the best steaks I've had in London (and I've had a lot!). My dinner companions all enjoyed there's as well. Drinks were free flowing. Cocktails were delicious (esp the Espresso Martini). My husband and I had lunch at Christopher's a few Sundays ago...here are my thoughts: Ambiance: Christopher's is beautiful, inside and out. I loved the classy and clean décor. Service: Top notch. Servers were friendly and food came out quickly. Food: Crabcakes were delicious. Avoid the house salad, which is nothing special (although the dressing was quite tasty). My husband had the Huevos California, which were too greasy for my taste. Not quite what we expected (especially since we're originally from California), and he didn't eat too much of it. Came in for a night cap with my wife an hour before closing. We grabbed a seat and waited almost 5 minutes for the waitress to find us. Place only had 15 people across four tables present. Ordered martinis. Dirty and a vesper. When they finally came, one seemed a tad short. Finally flagged the waitress down to ask about how they make their martinis. She started to spout off what was in it. I simply asked the amount after telling me two different amounts, I finally told her I was all set. The fact she spoke minimal English as ironic given we are in England. At 11 pounds a drink, this place is a rip off. Won't ever be coming back. read more

Absolutely fine. That pretty much sums up my experience here. Can't say anything more positive but really I can't say anything negative either. There was nothing wrong with the venue or the food, but I was left feeling pretty "meh" about the whole experience. On arrival our coats were taken & we checked in at reception. Straight away I thought of similarly set up places like Hawksmoor & had high hopes. Upstairs our table was in the back corner so not the best. Looking at the tables and the room I felt like I was in a parish hall being used for an event - no real atmosphere & the centre tables seemed randomly rotated to fit in. The food was nice, the coffee was terrible. My BF had steak & eggs which was literally a piece of steak with 2 eggs on top, centred on a massive empty plate. I had the mushrooms & then pancakes. All in all pretty underwhelming but not horrible by any means. The staff were pleasantly aloof. At £65 for brunch for two people I'd expect to walk away feeling stuffed & singing a places praises but not so in this case. There are plenty of other, more exciting options for brunch in London so I don't think I'll be back. read more

I came here for Sunday brunch and it was a-OK. The venue is very nice and it was lovely to eat upstairs with the sun shining and the curtains billowing. Alas, the food was less consistent than the atmospherics. I had the watermelon + feta salad to start, which sadly was outdone by a similar dish I recently had at my work cafeteria. I will say that the crab cake I had for my second course was PURE MAGIC. There was no talking for ten minutes while I eagerly consumed this meat-cake-o-deliciousness. After a night out, in Britain there is the kebab shop. In the states, some may opt for Taco Bell, but sometimes, what you really need is a short stack of pancakes with a side of extra bacon (streaky bacon) at IHOP (or Denny's...whichever you prefer). And that is exactly why we tried out Christopher's American Grill on a Saturday morning. The exterior is certainly impressive and I began to think that maybe I was underdressed for our pancake experience, but that really wasn't going to stop me. I was rather surprised that there were not more people in the restaurant when we arrived. However, I was glad because it meant we were seated quickly. We ordered our drinks and I chose to go with the filtered coffee. It smelled lovely and it had this very creamy texture to it... and that was before I added milk. I was torn... they have a part of the menu called 'Pancakes and Such' and I couldn't make a decision! They had regular buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup and maple cured bacon or they had blueberry pancakes, but no side of bacon. And then... they had french toast, with roasted peaches! If there is one thing I love more than pancakes... it is french toast. In the end it came down to the fact that my original mission was pancakes... and the tipping point was the maple cured bacon. My friend and her sister ordered the blueberry pancakes and the eggs benedict. Our food came in good time and the staff were very attentive. The pancakes looked delicious... although probably the fanciest plate of pancakes I have ever had. There were three pancakes, but I would say that they were more like silver dollar pancakes... admittedly I could've had another plate because I was feeling that greedy. The pancakes were delicious and the warm maple syrup was a very nice touch. And the bacon! It wasn't streaky bacon, however there was not much fat on them, and they were cooked more on the well done side... just before crispy, but still had a nice dark colour to it. The bacon had wonderful flavour. My meal was just over £10 and I thought it was very reasonable for the delicious pancakes and bacon. I will probably go back to test out the french toast... stay tuned for that! read more

**DISCLAIMER: I've only been to the bar, not the restaurant upstairs** This is a fairly swanky bar with a fantastic cocktail menu. Moreover, the bartenders (not the waiters, alas) know pretty much every cocktail ever made, so don't be afraid to order off the menu too. The first time I came here, the bar staff let my party stay quite late (it was a Monday night) before asking us politely to leave. The second time, the bar staff remembered me and managed to find me a table even though it was busy. They even remembered how much I liked dirty vodka martinis, which I thought was a nice touch. Most recently I went with a close gal pal; two of the bar staff came over and greeted us immediately, went out of their way to find us a table (it was a Friday night, prime after-work drinking hours), and one of them gave me a two-for-one loyalty card. The service, as you can tell, is brilliant, and the cocktails aren't bad either. This isn't the sort of place I would come with a large group, because the bar is often quite busy and tables seem to be reserved far far in advance. It is, however, a great location, and the cocktails deserve their price tag. Nice for a quick after-work drink, or a romantic cuddle with a friend (mood-lighting a-plenty). read more

I want to be clear, the service kept this establishment from being a 5 star restaurant. The food itself was absolutely delicious. We arrived on time for our 8:15pm reservation and checked in at the front desk. The hostess informed us that the table was held for us and we could have a drink at the bar if we wanted to. We opted for this and got two beefeater martinis, extra dirty, extra dry, up with olives. The bartender actually muddled olives and strained them out when pouring the drink as opposed to using olive juice. Big points for that. When we finally sat, we got a nice bottle of Merlot-Tempranillo and began with the scallops appetizer. These little marshmallows of the sea were cooked perfectly and dressed with truffle oil which make them heavenly. Our waiter was quite slow in bringing out our bottle of wine and this was the first indication that we might have an issue. When our steaks arrived, only one of the sides showed up, the asparagus with watercress and truffle oil. When my buddy inquired about his onions, the waiter said he would check on them. We ended up asking him again about the onions when were were mostly through our meal, around 10 minutes later. They finally came flying out of the kitchen as we neared the end of our steaks. There was clearly a timing issue here. We ended up splitting the panna cotta for dessert and ordered two glasses of port. The dessert arrived promptly but once again, our port was brought significantly after the dessert arrived, almost when we were done consuming it. At a less costly restaurant, I would overlook things of this nature but I feel at this price point and for this quality of food, the service needs to be at a similarly high level. It wasn't unfortunately and so the 3 star rating. To be fair, my steak was fantastic and all the food we tasted was awesome. read more

I've reviewed this place twice now and both times are for the cocktail bar only, which does do some rather tasty libations (I've obviously been frequenting Mr Fogg's too much recently as libation is my word of choice this week!). I've always told myself to make sure to come here and sample the food on a special occasion. Guess what, guys?! I finally made it! Upstairs in their restaurant I treated a couple of friends to a posh dinner to celebrate a works promotion for one and comiserate a really tough week for another - tough week and only Wednesday, not good! Firstly, booking. No problems here, we were straight in at the time we wanted. I then phoned up to enquire about booking pre-dinner drinks and was helpfully booked in. Then we were late and didn't make the drinks, so I felt a bit bad about that. But we arrived, were treated to the free cloakroom and shown to our table. My friends didn't know where we were going and I don't think they expected an upmarket restaurant like this one, more something cheap and cheerful. So they were happy already! We ordered a lovely bottle of crisp pinot grigio (£22 was a fair price for this in a restaurant) as we had all decided on mains of either fish or chicken. 2 of us plumped for the blackened salmon with a tomato-based risotto and the third chicken with what looked like a puy lentil side offering. £18-19 each for these dishes so we expected some good food here. Side dishes (which you paid more for) were sweet potato chips and a green vegetable mix. Bread to start, good selection of different flavours here. The butter was nicely mixed with herbs but was too hard, I think it should have been taken out of the fridge a bit earlier. Then the mains arrived - the salmon was soft and tasty but a little bit overcooked, I was hoping for it be slightly pinker in the middle. But it flaked well and the blackened crust was a really nice touch. The risotto side was nice (a bit stodgy) but the side salad took the edge of that with a really refreshing dressing. My friend made all sorts of yummy noises at the chicken - she was quite loud so tables did start to peer over! The side dishes were perfect - crispy sweet potato and salty greens of al dente broccolini, mange tout and sandfire. A bit too al dente for me but I do like my greens done a bit longer than most. So all in all, at £21 ish per person for mains we were satisfied. A bit overpriced perhaps. Then the desserts came round. We decided to be naughty - why not, it was Wednesday right?! We ordered 3 and split them, brilliant plan since I love sharing food and trying little bits of everything. First was creme brulee - slightly burnt top but really mellow flavour underneath, complimented with a berry summer pudding - refreshing and fruity. Second a beautiful banana tarte tartin, sounds like it shouldn't work but it did! wonderful sweet and sticky sauce over this one, decadent and rich. Served with a smooth vanilla ice cream and a chocolate brownie to add a bit more naughty to this dish. Then finally (and I mean Oh My God!) was a chocolate and peanut butter tart with a caramel sauce and espresso ice cream. Now you have just named all of my favourite foods right there and this thing was divine! All of the yummy noises came from our table at that point. Very filling, but rich and deep in flavour with the coffee kick from the ice cream simply snapped you out of your chocolatey,'eyes glazing over' food coma. That thing was divine. £7 or £8 each, more than worth that price! So overall, 4 stars. Friendly staff (if a little slow) they always kept the wine topped up and were courteous and helpful. Just a slightly disappointing main (in comparison with the dessert), I left happy and content. read more

When we first arrived, we were seated down by the window, which was lovely with the sun shining through, and I thought wow this place is fancier than I had expected. However, that facade faded almost immediately after we settled down. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but I felt like they were just trying really hard to make the restaurant posh and the service was so sloppy that it was just not up to scratch. The food was decent, but the portion was quite small, and given the sloppy service, I could not justify paying so much for the experience. Balthazar was much better. read more

While I was visiting London - I met some friends at Christopher's for Sunday brunch - what a great brunch spot! We sat upstairs where they have a larger dining room (which was really crowded) and a smaller side dining room that has a great view of the theater area. I'm not sure if this is a pricey dinner place - but it was pretty affordable for brunch. They have all the traditional brunch fare - eggs, pancakes, healthy granola stuff, etc and plenty of bloody marys and mimosas to start your morning off right. The juices were really really good - fresh squeezed orange juice - none of the icky made from concentrate stuff. I shared steak and eggs and the watermelon/blueberry/spinach salad with my friend - all of it was delicious and large portions. When we arrived upstairs, we were seated promptly. The decor is classy and elegant. I had salmon cakes which were very tasty and sweet potato fries. I recently went to a birthday party here- it would never be my first choice of place -as it is rather corporate and bland -- But we had a private room downstairs with our own reception,cloakroom and bathroom which was really nice. Although the restaurants atmosphere was not too exciting the service was amazing and personel- the wine was good - and the place was great for meeting old friends without distraction. So I was unduly impressed --the place was great for the occasion and a great success. read more

One of my favourite place for a business meeting in town. Old school surroundings, decent service, good food and a nice range of wines and cocktails. Marvellous place to while away an afternoon if the lunch meeting spreads out a bit. The atmosphere is great - lots of chat going on, but enough space between the tables so that you can have a decent discussion without having to raise your voice at all. Highly recommended for lunches and a nice cocktail bar downstairs for your evening do to roll on a little further. Perhaps a little 'suity' at but not enough to put you off. I went here for brunch before the theatre and it was the perfect place to meet up as the show was just around the corner. Usually locations in the center of the theatre district can be hit or miss but this venue continues to surprise. It is American cuisine true and true so it is a great spot to hit up whenever I get a tadbit homesick. The portions here are proper American portions - nice and healthy! I had the blueberry pancakes which were delightful. My FI had the equivalent of what they call Juevos Rancheros in the states - he was pleased with his meal as well. My British friends noshed on Bloody Mary's and Steak and Eggs and the Parisians had the fig and cheese platter, hash browns and pancakes. All were happy and full by the end of the meal and delighted that they had found a new spot in town to frequent! The decor is also pleasing to the eye. Not too ornate but still enough pizzaz to give you the feeling like you are in a special place, not some chain food restaurant. We had some additions to our party at the last minute and they were quick and easy about accommodating us and because we were so close to the theatre we weren't rushed at all about finishing up our meal. Unfortunately there was a very loud business lunch going on with 2 men guffawing at everything which, while they were there, was not very good. However the food was excellent and I would certainly recommend the Grilled Asparagus with Pecorino Cheese & Truffle Oil as a starter. while the Gressingham duck was pink and tender. The sweet potato mash was a perfect side order. Spent a long afternoon over coffee after the meeting crowd moved on. Will be trying them out for dinner soon. read more

I went here for a recent company dinner. We used the private room downstairs that has its own bar and lounge area. Our company staff and guests really enjoyed the place in terms of food and decor. On the down-side service was a bit ditzy and the steak wasn't actually that good (I realise that perhaps with the 12 people who ordered the kitchen is under pressure, but there was a fair amount of tough fat and sinew on what was meant to be a prime cut). The wine menu is fine, although be careful with the staff recommendations. They really need perhaps need someone with a bit more experience doing this. Good thing we had a senior member of staff who collects the stuff and changed the set-wines straight away! Upstairs was nice, reception is for want of a better word 'posh'. As someone mentioned it is kinda 'suity' and I wouldn't go here except for company things. For steak restaurants, Gaucho's or Smiths' of Smithfield is a far better choice. However for privacy and the good atmosphere this did in-fact beat Smiths. Overall 3 stars, for the price I would've expected the food to be better. read more

We stopped in for lunch early on Saturday afternoon and had a lovely brunch of buckwheat pancakes and eggs benedict florentine. We sat in the bar as the restaurant was very busy and the service was very good. The food came really quickly and was good, just small portions for the price. Overall it was good but nothing special. Once again London prices just blow my socks off, but this seemed excessive for the portions sizes. So it was good but I doubt that I would come in here again. read more
