I took my wife and our kid to visit The Bone Museum on a rainy afternoon and we all loved it! You ring the bell for Studio 14 in this converted industrial building in Bushwick and step into one seriously packed room of skeletons, skulls, and spines; way more than you'd expect for the space. My kid was fascinated with the anatomy and had a million questions, which the staff happily answered (they clearly know their stuff). Only real gripe: general admission is $20 for adults and $10 for kids, which feels like a lot for a single room, however impressive. But honestly, once you're in there geeking out over the spine wall and the skulls, it's easy to forget that. The space is beautiful, and some specimens are amazing, such as the "exploded" and sectioned skulls[1]. Nothing else like it in NYC. Highly recommend for curious kids and adults alike! I have been seeing their reels on social media for a while now and finally made it up to New York to see the museum. It's fairly simple to get to the museum from Manhattan via public transit. Located in Williamsburg, a short distance from the Morgan Ave subway station. It can be a bit tricky to get into the building, you may have to buzz the intercom to get access to the building, go down the stairs once you're in, and follow the signs. The museum itself is one good sized room with a separate area serving as a gift shop. The exhibition room is well organized and has a lot packed into it. Along with labeled specimens, there are signs explaining the history of skeletons in medical education, and various ways those skeletons were obtained over the ages. Fun fact, up until the mid 1980s, anyone could buy a real skeleton from your choice of several companies. The staff treats the bones with respect and provides details on why they have created the museum to house the specimens and continue to use them for educational purposes after their original purchasers have died or no longer need them. They're eager to answer questions and share their knowledge. Alas I didn't get to meet the resident museum cat, Bone Jovi, as he had decided he was finished with greeting people for the day. I was in the museum for about 2 hours or so, I like to read everything, so other people may make it through more quickly. It's good for an afternoon or morning activity. The gift shop is full of fun stuff. They have items for kids and adults ranging from toys up to modern resin "teaching" bones that medical students use today in place of real human bones. My friends and I went to the bone museum and we loved it! The staff was super friendly and we got to learn about various rate bone illnesses, malformation and history on how medical students had to get their own skeletons and often got Indian bones. So much history to be had here, definitely worth a nice knowledge boost! read more

We've had the Bone Museum in Brooklyn on our hit list for quite some time. We finally made it and we are so glad we did! We were there on a weekday so parking wasn't an issue at all. We parked about a block away. Finding the door isn't tricky as long as you keep your eyes open. There are a few signs along the way like little bread crumbs to lead you in. Once inside the building, you're greeted by the Star Kitty Cat of the Bone Museum; the one & only, Sir Bone Jovi. I absolutely loved this place. When I travel I always look up oddity places to visit. This was on my NYC list. So glad I was able to make it. Even the friend I traveled with enjoyed this place. Upon arrival the greeter gives you so much info about this place and how the bones came to be. Not only are you greeted by a human, but they have a resident cat! After the initial info, then we walked around and read all about the bones and their stories. I'd definitely come back again! This niche museum is absolutely worth traveling to this part of Brooklyn. It is a little hard to find from the outside, but do not give up because it may very well become the highlight of your trip. just a heads up, when you buy your ticket, thats not for the whole group. you must purchase 1, then refresh the page and place an order again. you must refresh and buy 1 ticket per person. there is not a drop down option to add more then 1 ticket at once. ring the door bell outside, or wait for someone to exit like we did. then follow the signs towards the back end of the building. the museum itself is 1 room. but there are items to read and learn about from ceiling to floor. the guide will speak to you for about 10 mins then youre on your own. they will be there for you to ask otherquestions you may have. i would say a solid 1 hour will be good for this spot. plenty of photo opps, very educational, cute merch and at the end there are 3 or 4 bones you are allowed to hold. say hello to the bone kitty. kid friendly. read more

Y'all, I was not expecting much, I really wasn't. I thought this was going to be some itty-bitty room with a few bones and a couple of placards. WOW was I wrong - this is a well-curated, information-dense, fascinating exhibition of skulls, femurs, vertebrae, and all the many things that can happen to bone (uncontrolled growth, cancer, scoliosis, etc etc - and there is so much to see/read/learn that I could have stayed in this place all damned day. Come for the cool bones, stay for the exploded skeletons that are just stunning pieces of artistry in addition to being really interesting to analyze anatomically. Masha was working when I went yesterday, and she is a wealth of information - we asked a lot of questions, and she was never without further info, and even gave us MORE info than what we asked for - you could tell she really enjoys educating (and sharing her love of the collection), and she was so welcoming and warm. And for just $20?? Run. Go go go. Support this place, even if it's a bit of a hike for ya on the subway. Also - I wanted to buy absolutely everything in the gift shop. read more

If you haven't already... please check out this museum. The collection sheds light on the history of bone trade. It provides a full time line and allows you to connect the dots as to the how and why bones were collected. It is centered around the medical field, and how bones were used for that purpose, but even if you're not in the medical field you'll enjoy this. I love how easy it was to follow the timeline of the bone trade from how it was used for medical students to grave snatchers, not to mention that it allows the general public an up close look at bones. I got a t-shirt, which they were nice enough to order for me to my house as they were out of stock. The t-shirt took a while to arrive but they were sweet enough to sent me a Bone Museum pocket calendar, which I loved! My girlfriend is a bone nerd and I don't know much about that kinda stuff but I really learned a lot and had a great time! Students get in for cheaper too, so that's a plus! Went here today because I was interested in the bones. The employees are super informed and really sweet. I got to talking with a couple of them in the gift shop about an unidentified lizard bone tattoo I have and they actually talked with some guys with this reptile exhibit they're working on opening next month so we ended up getting to peak at the reptiles in there too. They're all clearly passionate and ethical people, acting with kindness. This is a highlight of my entire week. Awesome exhibits and awesome staff. I recommend a team building escape room esque vibe for your next employee party btw. read more

A seriously cool new spot. Jon Ferry of Jon's Bones has opened a little "museum" that shows off an impressive collection of retired medical skeletons and bones as well as information on the history of cadaver law and the bone trade. Jon was there to give us a tour and answer questions which was really enjoyable. It was really interesting to see how different illnesses are visible (like scurvy) in the bones on display and it was really cool to learn about the sources for all the bones.
