A beautiful place that is definitely worth the visit. I came during cherry blossom blooms and it was so beautiful to witness. The petals falling, it all feels so magical. It can definitely get crowded, but it's well thought and laid out well. There's a lot of gorgeous flowers on display, and even a cafe inside.

This is a nice botanical garden. I think my opinion is skewed that I came in spring and there weren't a lot in bloom except the tree peonies, tulips and azaleas. You can spend a nice hour or so walking around the various gardens. If you start at the Visitors center, there is a very knowledgeable older lady who will give you a great route so you don't miss anything. They have a Japanese, herb, Shakespeare, conservatory, rose garden. I enjoyed all the flora and smelling great flowers. The Conservatory is ok but I've seen better. Definitely a visit at least once!

This is an absolutely amazing botanical garden. There are so many sections. Everything is beautifully maintained. There is great effort to rotating seasonal plants. I love the garden.

Brooklyn Botanic Gardens is located near Prospect Park, and is a over 50 acre urban oasis . Even though Spring blooms were just beginning to bloom it was well worth the visit. There are several specialty gardens like the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden and the Cherry Esplanade. The Cherry Blossoms were just starting to bloom and in a week or so they should be in peak bloom. The Steinhardt Conservatory includes the Bonsai Museum (one of the largest collections outside Japan) and separate pavilions for tropical, desert, and aquatic plants. We spent a few hours walking the gardens, and I would like to visit again to see the various stages of blooming plants and flowers.

Adjacent to prospect park this beautiful space opened in 1911 . The visitor center opened in 2012 . There are cherry trees and over 14000 different plant life in 52 acres of space. My wife and my favorite time to visit is spring bloom and a close second is a more recent introduction called night scape Where you discover the garden at night under the stars and selection of lights in the garden during the holiday season which makes it extra special.

Came here on a Sunday and it wasn't super crowded. No outside food or drink unfortunately. It says the park was being sponsored by jpmorgan which permitted free entry if needed instead of the typical $20+ admission fee. We got a map of the park which was helpful and visited the bonsai area, desert, tropical, and Japanese garden area. The Japanese garden was the best!! The pond and walkway was so spacious and shaded. Such an ambient place and saw lots of ppl just sitting and hanging out. Really felt relaxing and a place to "escape." I definitely wanna be back in the spring when the flowers bloom, but there were still quite some colorful flowers in the hot summer/fall.

BOTTOM LINE: This is one of my happy places. It may become one of yours TIP/S: check for extended evening hours WHY: to have some nature in this concrete jungle WHAT: (Deets) This is a treasure...part garden, part observatory, part study hall, part dynamic museum, part oasis. All happy places. There are multiple features, sections, and quiet places, even when it's crowded. There are QR codes to scan that will give you insight into the garden. One of my favorite events here is the Cherry Blossom Festival. It's family, friend, and solo date friendly, and ultimately a great space to simply BE. WHEN: spring, summer, fall WHERE: there are 2 very different entrances HOW: car/ bike/ public transportation bus B41 trains B, Q, S, 2,3 BATHROOM: adequately stocked (5 stalls, separate gender) WIFI: did not use DRESS CODE: as you wish SERVICE: cordial

What a great way to spend a sunny afternoon in NYC! I went here with my family and we stayed here a few hours, walking around and looking at all the beautiful plants, flowers, and trees. The gardens is quite big and if you take your time to look at everything, you could easily spend over 2 hours here. I would definitely come back!

$16 for students and $22 for adults. Well kept space that's quiet and peaceful. The Japanese pond was great to sit by and watch the koi and turtles swim around. I'm sure in the spring or fall, it would be beautiful as well. Before the ticketing area was a Terrain store as well

Beautiful! Flowers were in full bloom, the cherry blossoms were so pretty. Vibrant colors. Definitely an amazing place to send the day. Quiet, peaceful atmosphere with lots of people and good vibes.

Fabulous! This is definitely one of the most beautiful place in New York City. It will certainly dazzle all your senses: sight, hearing, and smell.. Beautiful and historic architecture, very impressive, gardens including a rose garden the will delight your nose. There is even a celebrity walk of an incredible of people that have impacted, lived or are from Brooklyn. A great day in Brooklyn--and yes many trees have grown in the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.

Ask the Community - Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Can you feed the fish in the BBG Lily Pools and Japanese Garden? Fish pellet food or small veggies?

No, this is not a feature here.

    Is there parking around?

There is a large parking lot by the Brooklyn Museum, right in front of the Botanic Garden. Otherwise, street parking is not great.

Can I take family photos without a permit if I don't have any equipment besides for a camera and maybe a small chair?

Yes, and anywhere you want. I recommend the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden and the Lotus Ponds. Enjoy the best jewel in the world

What's the best view for cherry blossoms from 455 Flatbush Avenue and subway station?

    Eastern parkway entrance

What day is the free admission?

    Friday

Is there a sanctuary for turtles?

Not officially, but there are red eared sliders in the lotus pond in front of the greenhouse and probably the other ones, like by the Japanese garden. The most turtles on "display" are in the Prospect Park Zoo in the duck pond by the Discovery Trail.

When is it free to good ? What days and time?

Fridays from opening to Noon, see their website for more information

    Indoor bar b q?

nope. there are a few eateries/restaurants there, but not bbq

Can we bring food to the BBG and not eat it and save it for when we leave and go to Prospect Park? I want to pack my kids a lunch and eat it with them at Prospect Park afterwards. Can I carry the food through BBG in a closed bag?

yes you can! just cant eat within the grounds

Can you bring your own food to the BBG? And if you do, is there a place at the BBG that you can eat it or do you have to wait till you leave the BBG to eat? *Their website says no food allowed but I want to pack a lunch for my kids.

Hi Andrea, Thank you for reaching out. It looks like we’ve answered your question via email. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Are visitors allowed to sit on the grass and paint?

I saw a few artists painting but I don't know if you can sit on the grass (ones I saw were on the benches)

Is okay to do a photo shoot in there ? If so do I have to pay even if i come on a Tuesday?

Visitors may take personal, nonprofessional photographs in all public areas of the Garden, provided they follow BBG's photography policy. Tag #brooklynbotanic when you share!… Read more
