This charming independent bookstore is an absolute treat! It's in a craftsman-style house in Greengate Village in oldtown St.George. They have a beautiful children's room, awesome events, and super friendly staff. Because it's an old house there are so many clever displays, including a cabinet and drawer full of writing supplies and craft books. Great selection and worth visiting for all your gift and book needs!

Lovely family-owned bookstore! Cute decore, lots (and lots) of comfy seating. Very helpful staff. Great children's room. Lots of Harry Potter swag (if you are into that sort of thing). Great selection of popular books and classics! A good mix of genres for everyone to browse. They even have a large kids section! As the only indie bookstore in St. George, I wish that had a few more branded stickers or merch to really amp up the experience. Workers were very kind and let you browse without interruptions. A cozy space that isn't busy like big box stores with many recognizable titles. read more

Such a sweet little independent book store! Everything seems so intentional and well thought out. They have an adorable "secret" Harry Potter section and soooo many books! I love a good bookstore and this one is so cozy! I caught sight of it while at the park and had to pop in. It's housed in a historical building, a former home, cozy with seating and a fireplace and plenty of built in shelving. I really liked the variety here and browsed the cooking, fiction, and memoirs sections for books I'd been meaning to read. Staff provide a friendly greeting upon entry but otherwise you're free to look around without being constantly checked on. Wish we had more time to curl up on their porch and read our finds! Jason was a helpful employee. I love the beautiful historical building. There are several tables and comfy chairs to read or relax. They have a good variety of genres, but most books are hard bound so more expensive. They frequently have author discussions and autograph sessions. Good website. Small parking lot but street parking is also available. read more

Really great local book store!! They have a great selection! They had the book we came for and we got 2 additional books for Christmas presents signed by the author who just happened to be there that night for a book signing! The owners were so friendly and helpful. The interior of their store was soooo amazing! It had an old rustic feeling to it and just felt very homey. Definitely a great local shop to support! read more

I love little book shops. This one is lovely. Walking in makes you want to find one of their comfortable chairs and read. Good selection for their size. I found three books that I am excited about. The owner was very friendly. Worth visiting. read more

Such a wonderful place to visit. This place does a lot for the community with all sorts of free events! Definitely worth a trip if you are living in or visiting St George. Owners put their heart in this place and you can tell. Jason Mills has aspergers but is right at home in the great collection of books that they carry. Please visit them! read more

Specialties

We're the only indie bookstore in Southern Utah selling all new books (plus puzzles, games, puppets and toys) and offering a full slate of author events, book clubs, poetry nights, writing groups and workshops, and story time for kids. Stocked with over 6,000 books, the Bungalow offers a carefully curated collection of literary fiction, classics, women's fiction, science fiction, fantasy, romance, mystery, suspense, thrillers, historical fiction, and fiction for children and young adults, including graphic novels. There's even a touch of horror, as well as a special section for international fiction (translated into English, of course). And that's just the fiction.

We opened our doors to the public on Wednesday, September 26, 2018.

Meet the Business Owner: Tanya M.

I'm an award-winning author who wanted an indie bookstore with a full slate of events for this part of Southern Utah...and a way to provide my son, who has Asperger's, with full time employment and a possible career. (Yes, indie bookstores are thriving again, and if you do it right, a bookstore can succeed and grow.) We want to become the literary soul of a community filled with art, music, film and theater...but not enough literature.

I would never have paid $50 for a decoration with a two week life span. They should put up a disclosure for like items that they are only good for one season. Be very careful when shopping with DB. Very poor value and disgraceful customer service.

Mark my words though, even though it is good now, in 2 - 3 years, my bet is that it will be spectacular.

This was going to be a good experience, right? When I went in, the consignment lady was so rude when I asked a few more questions and kept saying, "Well you didn't talk to me about this! I don't answer the phones on Saturday." Dropped off several things, she rejected almost all of them. I hope the 1 or 2 items she kept sell quickly, as I will never do business with her again.

I contacted Urban Renewal on February 23 about consigning several high-end pieces from a home I am…read moreclearing out for a deceased family member. I do not live locally and was only in town for a short period of time handling the estate, so timing and communication were important. The home contains quality furnishings, including a Taylor King sectional, a custom Vanguard dresser, a large Restoration Hardware rug, and other high-end items. After nearly three weeks of back-and-forth communication, they finally were going to come out on March 13 and picked up only two items--a sideboard and a rug. To my surprise, after our conversation with the driver on his way, they then declined the rug. I decided to tell him not to even come, and I would not be doing business with them and that their business structure was extremely unprofessional and excruciatingly painful to deal with. During prior communication, they asked what price I hoped to get for the rug. I suggested $800 for a $3000 rug as a starting point, fully acknowledging that I did not expect to recover what I originally paid. I specifically asked for their professional input since this is their business and they know the resale market. Instead of providing guidance, I was simply told my price "wasn't their happy price." That was the extent of the explanation. The entire process was unnecessarily frustrating. Communication is routed through a receptionist who acts as a gatekeeper, making it impossible to speak directly with the person actually making the consignment decisions. Everything is filtered through short emails or secondhand messages, which creates confusion and delays. For a business that relies on consignors bringing them quality merchandise, the lack of transparency, poor communication, and inefficient process is surprising. Clearing out an estate is already difficult, and this experience only made it more frustrating. I would not recommend working with this company. Their communication structure and overall business approach are not consumer-friendly.
