My first question was what I ask all used bookstores -- did they had a philosophy section, but "very little or no humanities", according to Ray Harley, the owner. "What we do have is Baseball and American history." Both of which they have in abundance. He wasn't kidding. Shelves and shelves of books on the sport -- I mean, if you're into all things baseball, this is a literary treasure trove). In addition to American history. I also found a decent section on Jewish and U.S. Catholic history as well. The store itself was a study in chaos; apparently they were unearthing a lot of material from the cellar, so boxes and boxes everywhere which required some nimble navigation of the stacks. But what was shelved themselves was fairly organized. It's definitely a good place for browsing. Pricing: specializing in old, rare and out-of-print, most books on the shelf that I found were in the $20-25 range. There are a everal $1 carts out front where I found some pleasant surprises. Takeaways (nice haul): - The Mission: A Film Journal by Daniel Berrigan, S.J. -- regarding the making of one of my favorite movies. Came here specifically for Cary Gitter's interview/ chat with Amy Feltman about Cary Gitter's debut novel. I really like the layout of the shop, the way the books are displayed, the diverse offerings of holiday books for children, and the way they fit the folding chairs to attend the author event. Tons of zines on every subject imaginable (composting, gardening, witchcraft, gay/queer subjects, politics, and more). Little booklets, funky cards and books. I picked up several cheeky cards I can't wait to send to friends. They also have records, crystals/stones, tchotchkes, small decor items. I think they also do tarot in the back. And they have a cute shop cat! The store decor is a lot of fun, with mirrors, political posters, a large ram that plays on the ventilation system. There is a lot here you won't find anywhere else.

They have a very small selection of K-pop albums. Unfortunately most of them didn't have price tags already attached to them so I had to ask the cashier to ring it up for me. I think there was supposed to be a poster that came with the album but I never got it There was also a shelf I almost missed that was in front of the cashier on the side. The people staffing there are the nicest volunteers, but they don't always speak English. Come with someone who speaks Mandarin. They sell all sorts of books on Buddhism and lots of vegetarian instant foods, and a display of great little food containers and portable chopsticks and fork/spoons. There is soothing light Buddhist music in the background, so you can listen to it or zone out for a bit. It's a great place to get some quiet time! The tea and coffee have suggested donation.
