It was a Wednesday night but i assume they only had karaoke on then because it was Christmas. The bar is pretty old fashioned inside, with the bar in the middle of the pub and tables surrounding it. We ordered some vodkas which were reasonably priced (just slightly more expensive than The Brandon Works) and sambucas. Instead of the normal clear shot, the barman gave us Luxardo Sambuca cream, a kind of coffee tasting liqueur, which blew my socks off. Safe to say the rest of the evening is a tad blurry. The locals were really friendly, the karaoke host was lovely and had some great banter with us, we even got up to belt out a bit of the classic Kenny Rodger's The Gambler! The pub always has entertainment on, with bands playing and themed parties for special occasions. It also has quite a sizeable beer garden which is perfect for summer. I would suggest that they make a website for irregular punters like me to see what is on and when. Other than that, it seems like a great wee pub!

Despite never having been to New Century Bar prior to a change in management, given what I've been…read moretold by previous patrons of this pub I would have to say that the new management have done a world of good. It was not as busy as I had expected a pub in Motherwell to be at 9 P.M. but the atmosphere was vibrant nonetheless, helped by a group of friendly locals at the bar who became loudier and funnier with each passing round. Football was shown on flatscreen TVs around the room with speakers providing music as a soundtrack. The lone barman was as nice as they come, and despite coming across as rather quiet and shy he was often involved in conversation with friendly drinkers at the bar and could be seen having a joke and a laugh with them. I can imagine weekends at New Century Bar have an atmosphere unmatched by most pubs in Motherwell. Live bands play on Saturday nights while Sundays host karaoke so I will definitely be coming back one weekend to test my theory and would recommend others in the area to consider doing the same.

The bar was busy but spacious, with a really mixed crowd of people. Young and old sat together, people who looked like they would be more at home in the Cathouse mingled with tanned, blonde barbie doll lookalikes. It was quite a surreal crowd, the likes of which it's very rare to find. We had a great night and vowed to go back again, especially on karaoke night!

He took it back to the bar and the same 'lady' told him that it was fine and that can happen with bottles of beer and refused to change it. Staff are fine, if a little harassed at times, it's quite a busy wee place, even when I was in earlier on in the night. They have plenty of TVs to show whatever sport is on (Scottish football and horse racing when I was in) and there's a jukebox and karaoke advertised later on. It's not somewhere I would make a beeline for, but it's not somewhere that I would have any worries about nipping in for a quick pint to get out of the rain or wait on a train - I'd imagine that would sum up the bulk of their custom.

It is so small inside, shaped in a kind of half horseshoe formation, which is perhaps how it got its name. It hosts a Karaoke every Friday and Saturday, which was brilliant, with no shortage of singers! The bar staff were nice and friendly, even letting one of our more merry pals dance on her seat!

Known locally as a 'Celtic pub', the bar serves as a venue for the big matches that Glasgow Celtic play, and the buses leave from here for the matches. It is always busy, and it's almost always the same people who are in it. It epitomises an old man's pub, which is not my scene. It seems to be the sort of place where you would get stared out of until you left, if you weren't a local or a regular. Even though it is small, it has plenty of seating and you always manage to get a table if you're there early enough. The clientele are older; it is an over 21's club afterall, which makes it all the better in my book. I'd rather party with a 35 year old than a sleazy young 17 year old! You never see underagers in here, which is refreshing. The bar is well staffed and there are always loads of security, which is really reassuring.
