I was duly impressed by how much variety of brands The Brass Owl managed to showcase despite the small space. I loved the funky cookbooks up front and center and the hyperlocal gifts by the entrance. TBO is a quaint boutique situated on Ditmars Blvd with such charming and curious items. I've been a fan of the store these past few years and have made a number of purchases from stylish women's shoes to amazing scented candles and lovely jewelry. More recently, I have been drawn to their stones and have found and purchased such lovely ones here! Definitely a great place to stop and take a look. I never want to leave when I'm here! Not to mention their customer service is top notch which makes the experience all the better. Ah - I forgot to mention one very important detail! Did you know that this is a woman-owned small business which is so encouraging and empowering! As an Astorian, I can attest that TBO is a beautiful addition to our lovely neighborhood in so many ways. Thank you! I'm a little sad. I absolutely love supporting small businesses and want small businesses to thrive. But I was really turned off because I didn't feel welcomed at all. I entered the store and I was the only one in the store. When I came in the person working was really preoccupied with taking Instagram stories of their products, even taking photos of the products right next to me. I know because she took photos of a boot in different spots of the store. I just didn't feel welcomed and felt awkward even wanting to ask for help. Don't get me wrong their selection is great but I would much rather go to Lockwood where I feel comfortable to window shop or ask for help than come back to this store. read more

It's kind of like a thrift shop, but everything is nice and new. What's more is that they have a few events per month that are really fun and interesting. I found the clerk kind of cold once she realized I wasn't going to buy something. I was just happy to be exploring a new Astoria boutique, but maybe I'll purchase an item next time. read more

This shop is a great addition to Ditmars - I stopped by shortly after they opened, and was very impressed by the selection of jewelry (much of it made by local designers too) as well as creative greeting cards, candles, books, and ladies' shoes. And the staff was very friendly and charming! It's nice to see new stores as thoughtful as this one opened by people who actually live in the neighborhood too. I was just planning to browse on my first visit, but one beautiful necklace caught my eye and I ended up purchasing it. When it unfortunately broke the first time I wore it, The Brass Owl's owners were so kind enough to replace it for me! You wouldn't get that kind of customer service at a big department store. I will definitely keep coming back to see what new treasures they get in stock, and will recommend this shop to all my Astoria friends. read more

Love love love the brass owl!!!! I'm a little biased as I've known the owner for many many years. But, needless to say, I'm putting the biased thing aside and writing what I feel. Every time I go to New York, I make the commute to queens to visit the shop. It's exactly the type of store that I've always wanted and needed in my life. The owner loves to support local, so expect local artists work in the store, from eclectic jewelry, to cards, to candles. She offers some amazing shoes as well. But my favorite thing? She carries Quay sunglasses, my new favorite thing. Besides just being a store, the Brass Owl has monthly/weekly events such as workshops, trunk shows, etc. They offer snacks and beverages for those who attend. And another great thing? It's located in the heart of Astoria. Great restaurants all around. Next time you head to queens, stop by the brass owl to pick up something unique. And sometimes, you'll get to meet Aria, their awesome pup! read more

This is by far my favorite boutique in Astoria. The owner with her incredible vision not only outfits the neighborhood with beautiful style but also helps the community. This tiny shop is adorable, funky, and very welcoming. They have a great selection of unique gifts, including awesome scented candles and lotions (I got my friends champagne candles and ginger body lotion for the holidays), awesome local art and jewelry, cute shoes, and friendly staff. Besides the awesome food in Ditmars, this is the best thing that could happen to this new Astorian.. I have been living in Astoria for about a month and I walk by this store every day. Occasionally, I'd peek in, check out the cute accessories, gaze at the DV flats I've been gawking over on Instagram and admire the cute little knick knacks that I wish I had in my apartment and then muster up the courage to walk out the door empty handed.. I'm usually pretty good at it until I realized that the merch in the store are super affordable! Now, I get to shop! annndd guilt free!!! Nicole (the buyer/store owner) was very friendly. She helped me with my purchase and also set up with the rewards program. I can't wait to rack up points and see what kind of goodies they have at Brass Owl. I like this place. It's got a really fun, quirky vibe. It's like the chain Francesca's except more quality products. I always come in ready to spend lots of my money and always leave with 0-2 items. Not sure why that is. The shoes are nice, I've marinated looking at them for a decent chunk of time, haven't made the move yet...but they often have sales running or have a clearance rack to check out. I bought two soy candles that I love - they're called Fall in New York City and they're pumpkiny. Very nice scent for the season. They were a bit pricey, $28 each, but worth it. They have some cute bridal shower/bachelorette gift ideas, sweet/funny gifts for expecting parents, too. They have a ton of jewelry and accessories focused on love for Astoria and LIC which is nice. The staff is always amazingly helpful and kind. I look forward to popping in there when I'm passing by. I highly recommend checking it out! read more

Allow me to jump on the five-star bandwagon, because this place is adorable. As of now it's been open about three months, and from the pretty consistent stream of people going in and out I hope it's caught on enough to be around for a long time. There were cute shoes, jewelry, pajamas, scarves, totes, lotions, and books all arranged where they were easy to look through and browse. The woman working at the time was very nice; she had a smile for everyone who walked in and we chatted as I bought a pair of shoes that I knew would be going home with me as soon as I saw them. What with the great shopping and coffee/beer & cheese shops, Ditmars Blvd is shaping up to be a good place to check out! read more

By nature I'm a repurposer of things and lover of thrift shops, so I only buy something new if it's perfectly awesome. Like my sterling silver necklace engraved with the Hell Gate Bridge. For years I have been wanting a local shop for real grown up shoes and accessories. There are plenty of cheap options on Steinway and such but they are just that--CHEAP. The Brass Owl is the newest addition to the local shopping and food scene. The owner Nicole comes from a family of shoe merchants and was really receptive to feedback about her wares and has a varied selection of scarves (my favorite), tall & short boots and flats, and quality vegan handbags & totes along with jewelry. The necklaces are the most varied of the jewelry but I hope to see more bracelets because those are easily my favorite type of jewelry. There are some tights and socks. The place is dog friendly & open late several days a week, and open SUNDAYS. Give this shop a visit, you will find something that suits your style! read more

Adorable but PRICEY. I got a really cute pair of earrings for my friend on her birthday. I was hoping to get a necklace to match but after seeing the prices of things I could only get the earrings. She loved them though, so I guess that's a win. The store is really cute inside, lots of interesting items to buy. The staff seemed both bored and not interested in being there, and wasn't overly friendly when I checked out, giving off that "too cool to care," vibe. I have only been in here a few times but I have walked out with something every time. They have a unique range of items and it is a really good spot for gifts. I got a necklace for a friend's birthday and my husband got a necklace for my mother there. Also cute mugs. There are clothes as well, I just haven't gotten any there. This is my favorite little shop in Astoria. The owner, Nicole, and all of the people that work there are the friendliest people ever. The shopping selection is fantastic, and it always seems I cant help myself but buy something every time I am in there. I unfortunately haven't been able to make it to any of the workshops or pop ups, but I hope to soon because they always have the cutest stuff!! I love how so many of the companies carried are local based designers. This is the ideal place to go if you are looking for a gift (and something for yourself! ... and something else for yourself...and maybe just this necklace too? Ok, just take all my money.) Stores like this make us believe in supporting local businesses! Always so friendly and helpful when we go in. There's always a good selection that's continually rotating with seasons, and we especially love that a lot of their jewelry and accessories are from local artist and vendors. We love their rewards program that we've purchased enough items throughout the year that sometimes our next items are X amount off or free altogether. We also appreciate that their Instagram and Social Media is updated daily to let you know what's new and coming, and what events and sales they're hosting. There's isn't much of a selection and section for men's items and gifts, but I get that a lot of men may not really shop there. But great place overall, and we love it in there. read more

They have a great variety of shoes (my favorite), along with jewelry, handbags, accessories, home furnishing, you name it. This store is great. Not only do they have great merchandise, the owner - Nicole, is wonderful and they are always doing events and having sales. The store is really clean and organized, so it makes it easier to navigate your way around.
