Taylor is hands down the BEST! I'm someone who has always loved singing but never thought it was worth taking lessons. I'm so glad I took the leap and found someone as badass and encouraging as Taylor! Her lessons are super comprehensive--not only do we sing, but we talk about why our lovely instruments sound the way they do, whether it's our emotions, our anatomy, the weather.... It's exciting to work with someone who knows how to break down anatomical concepts in a way that isn't daunting AND is a fun/radiant spirit that makes the studio a comfortable place to sing in. It helps knowing she has experienced so much on her own personal voice journey; when she hears or sees something that needs to be corrected, she communicates with empathy and encouragement so I know I'm supported. In only a few months, I've personally noticed my growth as a singer. Yes, I still am a li'l self conscious about just letting go, but I feel more confident knowing I now have tools in my toolbox to sound cleaner, sing in my true sound, and just relax! Taylor is not kidding when she says to trust the process. It's not always comfortable trying things you're not used to, but duh, that's the point! I have been taking lessons for a year now with Taylor. The improvement in my singing and getting over the fear of performing in front of people have been nothing but remarkable. I can now go to open mics anywhere and my heart rate is not at 120 anymore just sitting and waiting for my turn. Without her encouragement and coaching, my journey would not have been possible. I was asked to play a half hour set and I said, yes. At first I thought I could do it, but as the day got closer, the less faith I had in my ability to pull it off. I would not only be playing and singing, but would be playing all of my own songs that I wrote after attending Taylors songwriting workshop. The week before my performance, I went to my lesson and told Taylor that I was not sure I could do it. I thought my voice was terrible, my songs were no good and my guitar playing was mediocre. Taylor's studio more than lives up to the name. At the beginning of this year, Ms. Crawford started working as my vocal coach. In the past 7 months, I've regained a lot of my confidence and I feel like a much more competent singer. I never knew there was so much to learn about my voice as an instrument! You can expect to work on things like breathing, posture, shaping of your mouth, and so much more. The amount of technique that I have learned far surpasses any expectation I'd have had for any single private instructor to arm me with. Taylor also gives you the space and support you need in order to learn so much technique without feeling overwhelmed. She's also been very gentle with me in terms of helping to guide me to a place where I feel comfortable singing in front of others. I definitely feel braver! I am a serious musician and play guitar. I have been in semi professional bands and I've always wanted to be able to sing. I have a very bass oriented voice with limited range. Over my life I had people tell me not to sing. I just had my first voice lesson with Taylor and what an uplifting experience! I love to sing but as a "closet singer" I don't have a lot of confidence in how my voice sounds. Although I was nervous when the lesson began, Taylor made me really comfortable and gently encouraged me to work through the vocal exercises. I was really impressed with Taylor's knowledge of the science and physiology of how our body's muscles work - which in turn affect the quality of our voices and our singing.
