The staff were helpful, professional and did not make me feel like I was being pushed to buy a gown (which I experienced in a number of other shops). Their selection of gowns is stunning, and they have some lesser stocked designers which was great for such an 'out-of-town' location. They obviously have great taste! They opened later for me to be able to have a bridesmaid fitting and as four of my bridesmaids were overseas, they ordered the dresses early enough for me to send them on so they could get them altered to fit perfectly. The seamstresses they use for alterations are reasonable and excellent. Definitely pay them a visit and make up your own mind.

The shop itself is small which means although we were the only clients in the shop behind the curtain. There was no where for my friend to get changed. It was standing in your pants in front of me and the lovely assistant. Most people would be fine about that, but I felt it was a little unnecessary and should have been factored in to the shop design. Which is why they have lost a star. However plenty of good points. First off, service was brilliant. We were the only clients and we had the assistants full attention. There was a nice selection of dresses at reasonable prices. If you are after spending the equivalent of a small car on a dress this is not the shop for you. Everything was under £1500. Most were around the £700 area. They also had a brilliant selection of off the peg dresses, if you are an average size, that you could take away that day. They were understanding that my friend would want to show other people the selection of dresses that she liked, so they let her take pictures. So many shops don't allow that which is beyond stupid. They also didn't make her stand on a box, I had to go through that when I got married, just wear heels. They have a seamstress who is available for consultation at the shop. You do have to pay her separately, but seeing her in the same place is a great help. My friend really enjoyed the experience and felt at ease in the store (apart from the lack of changing room) she will be returning for a second try on with me and her mum in the next few weeks.

Even the ones I thought would definitely not suit me, they said 'try it on, just so you can rule it out'. It was a brilliant experience and since then, I have recommended the shop to many of my friends. They even let us take photos so I could remember which ones I liked - unlike so many of the snooty, stuck-up shops who think you want to rob their designs, rather than to help you make your decision. The staff were young, friendly, fun and went out of their way to be helpful and make it an enjoyable experience - usually I hate clothes shopping, so they had their work cut out! Good old-fashioned customer service at it's best!

It took me a while to decide which wedding dress was for me but only because they had 4 dresses that I totally fell in love with (I wish I could have taken them all) but eventually with their help we managed to narrow it down to one and I am absolutely more than happy with my choice, it's a beautiful dress and I also saved £800 on the price so I'm extremely happy about that! Both myself and my family and my bridesmaids were treated very well, they looked after us in a way that I couldn't have asked for more from a bridal shop. In fact from my past experience they were unlike any other bridal shop we had previously visited, in a good way. I wouldn't have any reservations at all about recommending Village Brides to anyone, they made me feel very relaxed and I didn't feel I was being pushed into buying anything at all. Make sure you join their mailing list as they regularly send offers for 20% off and invite you along to special evenings where they decorate the shop, provide free drinks and give you a discount! The last one I went to was a hawaiian theme! The staff dressed up and there were inflatable palm trees everywhere! While I was waiting to pay I helped myself to free fairy cakes and they gave me a goodie bag! Can't ask for much more.

Check out the miniature animals - they make a wonderful wedding or baptism present, or just as a cute present to tell someone how special they are. If such sentimentalism isn't your style, you can at least goggle at the expensive jewellery, which is far more than just necklaces: they do brooches, charms, cufflinks, bracelets and more. You can get gift vouchers if you're afraid of buying the wrong thing for someone, but they'll need to be quite a lot to get much! This is definitely somewhere to indulge in your decadent side, and it's fine to browse.

The racks are tightly packed in but the staff are friendly enough. I wouldn't want to have to actually try on clothes or find a new outfit - it's the place to buy stuff without having to queue for 30 minutes like at other shops. The clothes are well organised, sizes are in order, most of the range is available and despite it being uber-small it is also super convenient.
