Served with sauteed veggies as well as some blanched. The meats were sliced thin and smothered in a tasty gravy. And of course deeply fried potatoes tied it all together. The band was so loud that I had trouble ordering but it was worth the sign language to get to where I wanted to go! I was a bit shocked when the bartender said they didn't serve English beers but then served me their house IPA that hit the spot (I'm sure it was brewed in England). There was a slight snafu with one of my drinks. My husband ordered a regular grey goose martini for me, but I ended up with what appeared to be a cosmo. When we brought this up to the server, I believe she said that they only make cocktails that are listed in their drink menu. A basic martini is not on the menu, but a cosmo is. The server asked if I would like to swap that drink out for something else on their menu, which I did. The food was very good and perfectly portioned. They have a kids menu, making this a good place for families. My husband ordered the french fries, peppercorn sauce, and scallops; I ordered the Mozzarella, peach, prosciutto ham salad; and my daughter had the kids mac n cheese. The Wharf is also very dog-friendly. We noticed that dogs were allowed inside and outside of the restaurant.

I have to say that their beer flights are great value at just over £3.00 where you can get a third of each beer of your choice up to a pint - really good idea and great to see it appearing in more and more pubs! City Arms is somewhere that's cool to pop into if you're after a quick pint or meeting with friends, I just can't see myself wanting to spend all night here - I think I'd get very bored, very quickly of the beers on offer - but this is my own overly pretentious beery opinion!

The menu was pretty standard, so I quickly have chosen what to have and went to take a seat. The breakfast was of the right temperature, no twists, does the job. If want a quick fix ( depending on how many people are already there) while waiting for your train or stuff at Mosi, than that's the place; otherwise might want to check out things nearby. The wait was a bit too long - but again, this is a pub, not a breakfast place, so not sure it's fair to expect fast service at this time of day.

For some bizarre reason I decided to go for their 2 for £12.95 lunch deal (why I needed 2 courses at lunch I'm not sure but it seemed good value - plus I'd been in meetings all day so needed a fair amount of comfort food) and I went for the ham hock terrine to start with (lovely piccalilli) followed by the steak and ale pie with chips and vege's (devine). The quality and taste was excellent and with a very full belly I felt my work here was done! Speaking of work, it was also a good little spot to work for an hour on my laptop afterwards - with free wifi. On a particular night the week before I witnessed a 2am refurb going on, builders were hard at work transforming this particular building into something very appealing. As we walked in a week later, Abel Heywood was born in our reality. What an establishment! Let's get one thing straight, I love the NQ. But, as I've mentioned numerous times in previous reviews, Thomas street on a late Saturday night has begun (unfortunately) to resemble (much like somewhere like Printworks or Deansgate locks) a George Romero film from the 70's. That's exactly how we felt driving through it on our way to Abel. Now Turner street on the other hand has always been my favourite. It's that street in the George Romero film the Zombies haven't discovered yet. So we quietly parked there and tiptoed into the Abel avoiding attention of the Thomas street crowd. And wow, what an oasis. Calming music plentiful booths and comfy couches to sit on and timely bar service with friendly staff. The drinks range I've been told is fairly decent and there's a restaurant and a boutique hotel on the first and second floor respectively. Most of all the chilled out vibe on a saturday night was a clear winner. The seating booths are super comfy with heaters lined in between, which is likely to be a God send in the upcoming winter chill.

And there, opposite the fire escapes, and between the back doors and wheely bins...is Corbieres...a welcoming little rectangle of light luring you in and down its steps. And I really do mean 'luring' - my beau and I had said just 5 minutes ago that we didn't fancy a beer, and yet we soon found ourselves at the bottom of those stairs investigating the various lagers on offer! There wasn't a great selection on tap, certainly no names that I recognised, and the barman didn't seem too enthused about what was on, but I got to try a new Czech lager that I was quite pleased with. And there was a good selection of bottled goodies behind the bar as well. The room is rather small, but the atmosphere of the place is just great: exciting yet understated, the kind of place I could imagine both hipsters and die hard football fans could rub shoulders and neither would snigger at the other. That's my kind of place. The jukebox is wonderful. During our brief visit we were serenaded by a mixture of Happy Mondays, Stone Roses (we are in Manchester after all) and some other classic delights. In fact, one of the quotes on the walls (see photo) claiming to be from Ian Brown himself, is that it "always was, still is, the best jukebox in Manchester." High praise indeed. However, she writes that the bar has managed to keep a low profile and that if you get there early, its all yours. In recent months its popularity has absolutely boomed if that used to be the case, and on Friday and Saturday nights, you've often got little chance of getting in, let alone sitting down, or accessing the Juke Box. The Juke Box is an absolute joke, no doubt, as it claims, it's the best in Manchester. The place is in a cool wine cellar which gives in a unique feel and it has a lizard attached to the bar (great idea). There isn't a focus on wine despite being a wine bar and the clientele are indeed much better than your average Deansgate set. Its genuinely one of the coolest bars around and I think its one everyone should try, so I do advise going, just make it a week night...
