Kookaburra Inn has private bedrooms and then with everything else is shared. Never had the chance to stay at a hostel before but if any of the other hostels have cost beds and friendly people and half decent cleanliness I'm down to give another one a go :). It's all about having fun experiences while traveling and if you meet some cool peeps along the way even better :)!! me & my So Cal friend met some friendly Europeans, fellow ozzies, asians & fair few south Americans here :D. Enough of a decked out kitchen to just go grocery shopping amd come back and cook up a storm :), cosy dining area inside and nice outdoor seating aswell. Thry have their own laundry machines out the back and ample toilets & Showers. Also the Kookaburra Inn is nestled in a grest spot in Spring Hill, with a woolies, subway priceline etc 5 mins walk away, China Town 10 mins walk same with Fortitude Valley & about a 15 minute walk if that to Story bridge or the ferrys :). The Owners Wendy & Chris are super friendly and always up for a bit of a banter & they also got a big & super gentle German Shepherd that follows the couple around when they cleaning vacated rooms or just greeting the guests :). Really enjoyed my stay here and would be more than happy to stay here if I'm ever up in Bristanbul again :D!!

The receptionist gave us a permit for our car but it didn't garuantee not getting a ticket. When we asked where to park she pointed to the 2 hour parking curb and said the meter maids don't come everyday. Also the rooms are small for the price we pay and for the rating it got on booking.com. Their only TV is in a small room. Our bedroom upstairs smelled like mold probably from the small corner sink spilling water on the carpet each time you use it. Early morning before checkout we were rudely awaken by a maintenance man pulling the carpet off the floor. It would've been very helpful if the receptionist told us the night before it happened so we wouldn't wake up in a panic.

The place was not full even by social distancing conventions so the waitress grabbed a menu and sat me at a little table in the walkway in front of the kitchen area. Not a good table by a long shot and one I was not comfortable sitting at. I was by myself and did not want to be sat in such an awkward place within a couple of feet of the dividing bar like a naughty school child being sat in front of the class. I went up to the waitress and said I wanted another table please as I was not happy to be sat there and she said, social distancing blah blah blah. No offer of a different seat, just blah blah. The place had other tables that people had just vacated and the lunch rush was well over but it was obvious she didn't want to give me a better table so I just walked out. She didn't even offer a table to be cleaned that I could wait for. Please don't whinge about not enough customers when you can't even clean a table for one.

Situated in the Valley (on the border of Newstead), it is also an easy location to get to. I came here for the UQ Architecture 2011 exhibition and was impressed at how fitting of a venue this place was for it. The space was divided in 2 large rooms, one loungy room with a wide bar and the other area was as the exhibition space. The white walls and bright lighting really worked well in showcasing the 80+ student works that were being presented. Overall, this was an ideal place to fit all student works plus accommodate to the 200-300 people that attended the event. The size of the bar is very wide, which is practical when serving a large group of people thirsty for some free booze. The decor and layout of 'Light Space' makes the place very versatile. I can imagine it would be a great place to host a wedding or large party. The high ceilings, white walls and amount of space would make this a great place to shoot audiovisual material in. If you have a medium-large sized function/exhibition/party to organise, or need a studio space for a photo shoot, you might want to look into hosting it at Light Space.

I was fortunate to experience the space in full swing over the weekend at Pinot Palooza, an event that brought together local wine makers, punters and food vendors. By virtue of seeing the pre-event organisation on the day I sense this is a tightly run ship and for personal events like weddings and such, this is what you want. There's plenty of scope to create the style and atmosphere you want in the area with two large hall-like spaces. There's office space above that is used by an ecclectic group of creative businesses including photographers, a media agency, architect and online fashion store. And as a little tid bit; there's also a bee hive on the roof by Bee One Third. Nifty huh?
