Delicious food and excellent service - all at a decent price. Ideal for a family dinner in the southern suburbs.

I thought it was a joke. Finally, we got sat and we just waited for menu's. I can't believe the waiter forgot to give us menu's! How awkward for all of us. We all knew it was going to go further downhill from now. I went up and asked for menu's the waiter just looked as if to say, "didn't think you needed em'". He looked annoyed and that just got me pretty angry. Still, I didn't do anything. We ordered at the bar a steak meal, a pasta spaghetti meal and a seafood platter of some sort. It was the longest wait for the food. Over 30 minutes and the restaurant bar didn't even look too busy. Seemed like an average night and I observed as the waiter chatting to fellow staff. Finally food arrived. We felt the food and it was no longer hot. It had considerably cooled down. At this point I realised, this waiter has no idea how bad their service is. The prices are way to high for what you get. Food is not satisfactory. Steak was cooked dry, spaghetti lacked flavour in sauce and seafood very oily and deep fried. I was not impressed. With most places, I like to give them another try, but as far as I'm concerned, when you pay a moderate to high price, you expect the meal to follow suit.

I cannot fault the food, it was fresh and good quality produce served in non-pretentious portion sizes. I especially loved my appetizer, the Crudo and my Pork Belly mains was just delish! The wine list caters for a range of tastes and affordability. Service was friendly but at times a little slow, especially at the end of the meal waiting for the bill. Certainly worth a visit for a special occassion.

Happily I pricked my ears when I heard about the Stokehouse. Having heard reviews and stories about this Melbourne institution (It's been open there for over 20 years!) I was excited to see this place assimilate into the Brisbane scene. Like it's neighbour The Jetty, Stokehouse offers some of the best and beautiful views of the Brisbane river. (It is stupidly gorgeous at night.) This place was pretty full when we arrived, but the service staff were super nice and managed to squeeze us all in. But for all its grandeur and charm, I was really disappointed with the price to serving size ratio. (I know fine dining calls for multiple courses but $35 for some barebones tortellini is ridiculous.) If you want fine dining with a view (and can afford it) The stokehouse is still worth a visit.
