I've never seen my dad get excited about candles before, so when we were driving down the road en route to our hotel it was a little surprising to hear him yell, "Oh my god, the Candle Factory!" Turns out he bought my mom a candle and holder (which she still has) about 40 years ago...and yes, the place is still in business! There are two sides to the shop: one with candles (duh!) and one with home decor/housewares. Lots of unique scents and varieties of candles, including the Wood Wick ones that crackle as they burn! Staff was very friendly (especially the guy on the home decor side who said his parents were the original owners). I adore everything about the Candle Factory. From the outside, it has metal shingles and old factory brick walls. The interior is reminiscent of a trendy inner-city loft - old, well-preserved brick and hardwood flooring. The selection of candles is undeniably eclectic, ranging from organic, soy-based and essential oils-based. There's a wealth of Michigan made candles, but the most impressive are those made specially by the Candle Factory. Further, there's an endless array of candle holders. There's all shapes and sizes of candles featured, along with art for sale by local artists. The staff is equally wonderful; they're immensely helpful, knowledgeable and kind. I love the Candle Factory, just as I did the last time I was there at the age of 8. It has of course expanded in the past 16 years. They have such a large selection of all types of candles. They make their own candles, including for weddings. Most of what they sell is imported to them, but they do their own custom work in back-you can even see their work space, which is pretty neat. I can't even begin to describe the selection here. They have literally everything. Normal unscented candles, scented candles, Yankee candles, shaped candles (fruit, animals, flowers, and way more), tall candles, short candles, and of course many candle holders. They've done such a nice job of displaying them as well. I can't wait to go back and purchase more candles! read more

Fantastic range and variety of candles. They have your classic scents like lavender and seaside surf (that's what I got) to more unique ones like blue basil and chocolateness. Sooo many different brands, sizes, shapes, etc. basically, they've got your candle needs covered. A little on the pricy side though but the quality is worth it. Parking: Was super happy to find that they had there own parking lot! Also, it was almost empty even though it was literally across from the Cherry Festival. read more

While visiting in traverse city, we visited The Candle Factory. It was very clean and had a nice interior, there were hundreds of different kinds of candles. They specialize in soy candles which are made at the factory. They also have other type of candles which are imported. The candles are reasonably priced . I really enjoyed this shop and would recommend it to anyone in traverse city looking for a unique gift. The employees were very kind and helpful. read more

Hell yeah I need some candles! Worked here for several years. Fun place to visit. The building itself is rather interesting. Great people continue to work there. Couple of common misconceptions: The Candle Man, Bryan, owns the company. Candle Factory has been owned by the same family for the entirety of it's existence. The candle factory is an actual factory that produces candles. The candle factory does in-fact make A FEW candles here, but don't expect a production line. They produce Landscape, carved, and specialty candles. The water leaking from the ceilings goes unnoticed. They see it, it helps wash the floors, don't worry about it. Free gift wrap, its only free if you really need it. Asking to gift wrap everything because its free will net you bad karma. A good place to park during Cherry Festival. Its not. Also not a good place to use the bathroom during Cherry Festival. It doubles as a stock room and is nothing luxurious. They have every candle scent ever. They don't carry "that one that smells like that stuff..." They have a huge sale section. This ain't Kohl's, there are no coupons just a small disorganized section of old-stock. Despite writing the price on each individual item, that they are in-fact negotiable. This is a business people. Candles come in flavors. None of the employees eat candles, so the staff is still uncertain on what each candle "tastes" like. A generous tip may help your locating of a certain flavor. It is a great store. They carry some great brands (Archipelago, Voluspa, Pacifica, Root, etc.) and probably some of the best customer service in TC. Free matches with purchase, and free maps (made by the owners') of local attractions. If you like candles, old buildings, or shenanigans, stop on by. You'll probably come back every-time you visit TC. read more

I love the candles there and they treated our group of 3 teenage girls very well, and did not follow us around like some of the other stores we had been to did. Some of my favorites there are Sea, French Cade & Lavender, Laundré, Pineapple Ginger, Bamboo Teak, Crane Flower, and Baltic Amber. This place is amazing! They have a wide variety of candles from different brands. A lot of the candles are a little pricey, but they have Swan Creek Candles which are super affordable and smell great. We already started using one of the Swan Creek Candles at home and it's one of the best candles we've used and the scent really fills the room. Would highly recommend! read more

I'm big into candles so when I drove by the building I had to stop. This is easily the coolest candle shop I've ever been in. They have every kind of candle you can imagine. Even my boyfriend walked away with a purchase and he isn't a candle person. As he was checking out with our candles, I stood at the counter smelling more. Which prompted me to run back into the building to make another purchase because I couldn't find that candle anywhere online and I had to have it. The owners were incredibly kind and helpful. One of our candles was a gift so they wrapped it up beautifully and placed it into a box. I wish we lived closer and could visit more often! read more
