This is quite a big barge and seats about 20 people comfortably, offering a great range of cream teas, sandwiches, breakfasts and drinks. A little quaint, traditional barge tea shop. The cups and saucers are just fabulous and the coffee mugs are varied - all adding to the variety and experience of this wonderful place. The tea is served in leaf form so you have your own strainer, which is really cool! I opted for a full breakfast today which was just right! Unfortunately they had ran out of bacon but I got an extra sausage for that! Locally sourced food which was cooked perfectly from the kitchen you can see at the end of the barge. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, offering their advice and explaining the food options as well. The service was excellent and relaxed. The most important part of finishing the meal is the separation of the bill, especially in a group. However they offered to spilt this and each of us pay separately, this worked great! I selected the Small Farmhouse breakfast which consisted of sausage, bacon, egg, hash brown, mushrooms, baked beans and a slice of toast with butter and jam. My husband selected the Farmhouse breakfast which had the same ingredients but twice as much. Of special note are the sausages which were very meaty and that the breakfast was cooked to perfection with none of the grease that can often be present. They also serve a full range of hot drinks so I was able to select a decaf latte. The menu includes some sandwich-type options and there were a few scones etc. for those who don't have our appetites. Service was fast for us. We arrived soon after they opened so only about 4 tables were already filled, so I cannot speak to service speed when they are busy, but they looked to have plenty of staff on duty. We had the complimentary breakfast most mornings, scrambled eggs, baked beans, sausage, fresh fruit. So much better than the typical American Holiday Inn fare. The location is great, right on top of the Outlet mall. There are several great restaurants in the mall and great pubs nearby, to include the Dolphin, where Lord Nelson drank the night before he set sail for Trafalgar. Speaking of Lord Nelson, the historic docks at Portsmouth are within easy walking distance, and could easily fill an entire day of exploration. The train station is also adjacent to the outlet mall, and can get you to London in about 2 hours. If you are going to be staying in the Portsmouth/Southsea area, I highly recommend this excellent hotel.
