I've had a chance to visit The Canvas cafe a few times now. After discovering it by chance thanks to one of the Museum of Happiness events, I now pop in more often as it's a great place to be. Self proclaimed the first London Happy Cafe, it aims at providing the local community with a relaxing place of self expression (visitors can write on the walls) and bonding with other human beings. The space offers a variety of often free workshops and events (film screenings, comedy, exercise, etc). Run as a social enterprise and supporting other local businesses, the cafe serves healthy home-made food, delicious raw cakes and drinks (both alcoholic & non-alcoholic). If you're not a big coffee drinker, you can try their macha latte or an interesting selection of teas. Everything (apart from the croissants and bread which comes from the local The Dusty Knucle - a bakery hiring young offenders) is homemade and it's a perfect place for vegetarian and begans. I've tried a few of their dessert and their all amazing. The cafe itself encourages supporting the local homeless; when buying a drink for yourself, you can buy a drink for someone who can't afford it. With the Museum of Happiness now here to stay for good (for at least 12 months) expect even more events for your body and soul.

Vegan PopUp meals currently at the Cafe. Soooo good.

Amazing cafe in the heart of Brick Lane/Shoreditch area of London. It sells vegan food that is amazingly good. As a bonafide meat eater this place for me considering changing my diet, which is impressive. It's so laid back and friendly here. The food is locally sourced and very healthy for you. There is something for everyone. It's also London's Happy Cafe/First Happiness museum. You can write messages on walls, on notes. It has an amazing feeling of acceptance l, calmness and relaxation that takes you away from the busy hectic London world. You can sign up to their mailing list and get involved in free events for your body and soul.

    Raspberry vegan freakshake!

A great vegan cafe off Brick Lane. Specifically took my vegan friend for her birthday to get freakshakes. The staff was so lovely and actually answered my email queries as their kitchen closes at 5, but they serve the shakes until 7! The freakshakes were a sight and a lot lighter as they are of course non dairy. I got the raspberry which was sweet, but great. She got the chocolate and seemed very happy with it!

A friend suggested The Laundry for a catch-up Sunday roast...and as I'm always willing to try new…read moreplaces, I thought it seemed like a decent place(despite my apprehension about only 2 menu items...lamb or veggie). We arrived, and immediately our drink orders were taken...although it did take quite awhile to get the drinks. However, my £9 Bloody Mary was pretty tasty...spicy and strong. As there were only 2 options for food...ordering decisions were made pretty quickly. One thing I found a bit odd though, was if you decide when you order your meal that you want dessert too...it's a £1 cheaper. I'm not really a fan of having to decide if I want dessert before I've even touched my meal. When the food came out, it was very pretty...however it seemed like a pretty small portion for £16. Luckily, I'm a meat eater, so I got a nice hunk of very tender lamb, but my friend who is a veggie, had to make do with a couple mushrooms(although she said they were very good). I also had one, lone brussel sprout on my plate...although that was better than a friend who had 1/2 a brussel sprout. It almost seemed like the food was there to look pretty, rather than to eat....either that or a tasting menu. Regardless, all of the food was really nice...delicious flavors...and to be fair, I wasn't hungry when I finished. A few people in my party got dessert. What looked like a slop of chocolate mess, with green ice cream...ended up being really nice. A chocolate mousse of sorts, with green tea ice cream and bits of pineapple. It looked a bit odd...but tasted good. All-in-all, I would recommend The Laundry. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was good, and the food tasty. Just be prepared to spend a bit more than you might want...and if you are a vegetarian, maybe eat a snack before you go. Or if you are super picky about food, call beforehand to see what's on the menu, since there are only 2 options. I certainly won't eat here on a regular basis, but a great place for a special occasion.

Went here for their New Years Eve party…read more The ticket price was pretty high for what the venue provided. DJ was okay altho musics were a bit of a snore 90's leftovers - and even then, some of the most generic 90's musics around. I expected more from London. The droves of kids on drugs were just fine with the playlists. They need 2-3 more bars for the venue size. They couldn't really well serve the 1000+ patrons. They also need for bathrooms to support an event of this size. All in all I was happy to be out of London City Centre for New Years - and hey it could have been worse! My main letdown was the music. Free foto booth was a +. At some point people had vomited in the ball pit and they didn't shut it down :/ Seems someone popped the bounce house halfway thru the night. I realize the venue and the promoter using the space for the new years party are separate - this is my experience for NYE only.

Sophia interacted with us loads and was great! The main issue was the food. We sent our order in WEEKS in advance and there were so many mistakes. We also never got half our desserts so they got the money for 15 dessert pizzas and we got about 4 boxed up. The brunch was listed as 12-4pm and we had plans immediately after. Our pizzas didn't come out until after 3pm and 4 of us still didn't get the right ones. Complete disaster and the staff trying to 'fix' the issue didn't rush to come up with a solution. It's not rocket science, just make the pizzas! One of the girls said 'we did make them but we gave them to another table'...ok so then fix your mistake. When they finally made them they STILL made 1 wrong! We also had one person in the group who doesn't drink and was told she'd have mocktails instead, which ended up just being really sugary juice that she couldn't drink. It's a shame because the drag acts were great.

It's not about the amount, of course I can pay 3 extra pounds, it's just inappropriate to raise the price just because you felt like it. I also don't appreciate separating groups that are in the queue together, or for that matter, leaving people in the cold just to make the place look crowded, cooler, funner. We were in a group of four, they let two friends in and left me and my other friend behind for 45 minutes. We're texting back and forward the two people that were inside and they said the exact words: "I don't know why you are still waiting. They could fit 30 people and a jacuzzi down here". So yeah, thanks for that. So far you would say it was a terrible experience right? Well yes, but the music saved it all. The DJ was great, the drinks were affordable, the toilets were clean and the location is very convenient. If you want to grab something to eat before dancing, just go upstairs to Pizza East and have a nice slice (order one for me too). Beware: this places closes at 2 am, and if I were you I would pick my coat from the wardrobe 10 or 15 minutes before they start to turn on the lights.

We were ever so early because besides the bar staff, there were only two other people down there. No matter, we were able to make our own fun. The cocktails here are amazing. After the bar staff dissuaded our friend from ordering Jagerbombs, they persuaded her to order a round of Concrete Flips (Espresso, Amaretto, Kahlua, Egg and Sugar). Yum, yum, yum! Because we never learnt our lesson about mixing spirits, we ordered a delicious round of white peach Bellinis. I highly recommend. By the time we left, the place was rammed and it looked like people were settling in for a heavy night of drinking and dancing. I'm definitely going back!
