We had a very nice stay at The Capitana. The hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and we especially loved the bathroom in our room. The staff was friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. We did experience some noise from children walking above us, but the hotel manager was understanding and worked with us to accommodate our requests, which we really appreciated. The hotel was shockingly dirty. We stayed in one of their cottages. The first cottage had floors that were lifting from water damage, and the entire place reeked of mold and mildew. After we reported this to the front desk, we were moved to a slightly cleaner cottage that still smelled strongly of mold and mildew. The carpets were black, and nothing felt clean. I asked repeatedly for our bed sheets to be changed; they never were for the entire stay. The furniture was worn out and stained, and dirty rags were left in the room. Overall, we had a wonderful experience here! Pros: - nice sized room with microwave/little kitchen. It was ready upon check in - little mud room type area in the room - relaxing, large pool area with bar - lounge chairs set up by the water - water pressure is good if using the wand - nice amount of counter space - staff was very nice and responsive when we called down - hydration station on each floor - fridge stocked with water bottles - the complimentary breakfast is pretty good! Cons: - need to uber or drive to Duval street - bedding is very thin - towels at the pool are small, best to bring your own - not really a con but more just to note - they are redoing part of the hotel near the breakfast areas so there is a lot of furniture temporality in one area. read more

Really nice place to stay. Hotel, rooms and outdoor areas are all updated and clean. Great pool and beach area to hang out and enjoy the weather. The only bummers was that their hot tub wasn't working and you don't really get a sunrise or sunset view from this resort. We'd come back here for sure. read more

Bad experience, worse location. Do not stay here. I booked in advance and the property requires a nonrefundable one-night deposit (first mistake). I booked and was hopeful but when we checked in there was nobody there to great us. I had to call the hotel to get someone to appear. The man that came out was rushed and not pleasant at all. I felt like I was inconveniencing him. Next, our room was not clean when we entered it. There was a half empty water bottle sitting so I was immediately concerned about cleanliness. We talked with the front desk and they indicated that they had no other rooms for us but then said they do actually have another room but its only available for 1 night. I didn't want to check in for 1 night and then hotel hop for the rest of my stay so we ended up leaving and finding another hotel altogether. The Capitana refused to refund my "nonrefundable" night even though I did not stay there. Ridiculous robbery. If you book here and are unsatisfied just know that you will not get your money back. They have zero interest in customer satisfaction. Also, the room I booked on the website pictured a sofa in it. The room I was given did not have this. False depiction on the website. Aside from this - do not be confused by the location. It is awful- nowhere near anything that Key West is known for. There is a taco bell across the street and other chain locations- not what you want to see/experience in Key West. It feels more like a suburb than a tropical locale. Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere. La Concha & Southernmost are great and well situated in terms of location. read more

We had a really nice stay here. It's not in the central part of town, which I liked because it was quieter. Nicely appointed rooms and incredible views and balconies. We especially love the cabanas - we ended up getting one a 2nd day. Service was great. They provide water throughout the hotel. The breakfast included wasn't great. Got really crowded and not much offered, more like something you'd see at a Holiday Inn. I would stay here again. read more

We (my wife and I) were looking for a great hotel in Key West to bring our dogs and enjoy a fun getaway. I'm so glad we chose The Capitana!!! I highly recommend for all dog lovers. 1) The hotel was extremely clean! They have hardwood floors throughout, including in the rooms. Our dogs are well behaved but you never know about those that came before. Carpet is therefor a problem with urine smells. This is not the case here. We were greeted to hard wood floors in the room and the smell of fresh mopped floors and cleaned rooms. This is soooo nice! Every day we noticed they were vacuuming the carpet in the hallways outside our hotel room. I stay in hotels more than 50 nights a year and I've seen cleanliness, but I'm not sure I've seen them vacuuming every single day. This is a major bonus. 2) They have little signs that you're able to hang on your door which enable you to leave your dogs in the room while you go to dinner or the pool which let the staff know that you've left your dogs in the room. I think that is so that if your dogs are barking and bothering other guests, they can call you to let you know so you can come back. Hopefully you wouldn't leave your dogs if they have that sort of anxiety, but our dogs are OK being alone and it was nice to know the hotel knew they were in there while we were at the pool downstairs. 3) They have a great pool downstairs with a bar and an area for playing games and a beach area for hanging out. We made full use of this. 4) The hotel is just outside of downtown so you're not right in the middle of Key West and paying exorbitant parking prices like you do for everything else in Key West, but close enough that you can be to dinner downtown within 10 minutes. We couldn't have asked for a better hotel on my first trip to Key West! I read multiple reviews on other hotels in the area and Capitana was the ideal choice. Not only is the hotel essentially brand new, the staff really do their best to make sure you're happy during your stay. We checked in with Yanique who was so pleasant and made sure to text us during the day to ensure everything was up to our standards. She also gave us a tour of the grounds and made sure we knew where everything was. We stayed in a king bed room which is the perfect size for a weekend getaway. There's a kitchen area with plenty of storage, seating area, and sectional couch. The room also includes a nespresso machine with an assortment of coffee pods. The bathroom was clean, spacious, stocked with Nest products and more than enough towels. I am a bit of a hotel snob and to have the room look just like the photos and be very clean was such a relief. There is also a smart TV in the room where you can connect to your Netflix and watch movies before bed! I didn't even realize when I booked, but Capitana offers a free continental breakfast. Eggs, bacon, French toast, bread selection, cereal and an assortment of drinks. For lunch, there is a small bar area that serves food and drinks. You really can spend all day at the hotel and just head out for Dinner. The bartenders were very nice and made great drinks. I will say the only thing missing from Capitana is some sort of included shuttle service to the downtown area. Ubers are about $11 one way or you can drive and try to find a paid parking lot. 10/10 recommend Capitana to anyone visiting Key West and wanting to stay away from all of the downtown noise. The location is actually pretty far from the main part of key west and anything you actually wanna do. That sucks because it can rain often and while the bar is great there's no covered walk way so if you have no where to go you're screwed. When we showed up at first the front desk was having trouble with their card readers and had several family's waiting before they figure out how to fix it. That took about thirty minutes. Breakfast is mediocre, and if you ask the front desk for utensils they won't even look and just say they have none (obviously lazy). Temperature through out the hotel can be pretty shotty. Room was clean but water takes like 20 minutes to warm up. Honestly just really bad service and super over priced for what you're getting. read more

We had only been to Key West for a couple of hours on a cruise, but we decided to make a trip to Dry Tortugas and we needed to book a hotel for 2 nights. We looked and looked and couldn't decide where to book a room since we used to live in Destin and know there are always places that look like Heaven in the pics, but look like hell in person, but the Capitana is Heaven in person. It kinda unassuming as you drive in, but once you're inside it's beautiful. The staff were very nice, the room was beautiful, spotless, and quiet. They have a hydration station on each floor that offers free chilled bottles of water which is greatly appreciated. The balcony is so nice and it was so relaxing just to sit there and relax. The pool and hot tub were very nice and I could have sat there all day. We were only there 2 nights and we got there late the first day and we spent the next day at Dry Tortugas so sadly we didn't have a chance to have anything from the restaurant or bar but definitely will our next trip there. We loved it so much we didn't want to leave, but my husband had meetings he had to go to the next day for work so we had to come back home. We're going back the 27th of November so I can't wait to just hang out at the hotel and relax. read more

Upon check in, the agent was flat and unfriendly. When we went to our room, (advertised as a "family bunk suite") we realized that it only had one bathroom and a tiny closet - disappointing for a family of 5. We felt totally misled by the online depiction of the room. We were told by the front desk staff that "well, there is a sofa bed," and after she spoke with "her manager" there was nothing more they could do for us. She also asked if we wanted turn down service, and we said yes. She said she added it to our reservation and also said that they would get the sofa bed ready for our daughter. When we returned from dinner, no one had been in the room for turn down, and there weren't even linens for the sofa bed. My husband went to the desk to ask for them, and he was told "why didn't you text us." Then the manager proceeded to argue with him telling him that someone had been in the room to prepare it. She told him "next time you should take pictures". He actually did have a picture of the bare sofa bed mattress because it was smashed and awful. He showed that to her, but never an apology from them. She acted totally bothered that we actually needed linens for the sofa bed because one of my 3 children needed to sleep on it. We also discovered that the internet TV in the bunk room did not work properly. We texted, and someone came to check it. He said he would "tell his boss", and nothing was done to resolve it - it was never fixed and useless to us. On the second day, no housekeeping came to service our room at all - even after I texted to request that it be done by 4:00, because we had a dinner reservation and the 5 of us would need to shower in the room. I arrived in the room at 4:00, and it hadn't been serviced. I texted to report this and never got a response. At 4:30, I had just showered and heard knocking on the door - it was 4 housekeeping staff barging in the room to clean it while we needed to use the bathroom. Again, never an apology. I have traveled the world and experienced all sorts of accommodations, and my husband and I are very laid back. However, we have never been made to feel as undervalued as the manager, front desk and housekeeping staff made us feel at the Capitana. We ended up having to reserve a second room for the final 3 nights of our stay so that my 18 and 20 year old children could moved into it, making us all more comfortable with the use of a second bathroom. However, that room's (205) internet TV did not work as well. Again, we had someone come to check it, and again, nothing was done about it. If this hotel wants to advertise as "luxury," it has a long way to go as far as hospitality and customer service. The only staff who were pleasant were Eric and Sadi at the Tiki Bar. So professional and enjoyable to be around. The way we were treated just about ruined our whole vacation, therefore, we will be telling all of our traveling family and friends to avoid the Capitana. What also makes this so disheartening is that we are very loyal to the Opal brand - we always try to stay at Opal resorts when vacationing, and have spent tens of thousands of dollars with them on our travels. That will come to an and as well, as we will likely seek out true luxury brands with time-tested hospitality and customer service from this point on. read more

Have now stayed here twice. Updating from 4 to 5 stars. Most recent stay was in the cottage which has a full kitchen and 2.5 baths. Much nicer experience as the cottages are separate from the main building and have more space. They overlook a small creek and have a nice back patio. Staff continues to be very helpful during stays. Still want to see them get a restaurant or at least better food, and a shuttle to Duval. Room service would also be wonderful. Keep up the good work! read more

I called Capitana Key West my home away from home for approx. 4 months. I soon became the most well know guest at the resort by all of the staff. I stayed in the apartment style cottages, which may not have had the view of the main rooms but made up with more of an at home feel and overall size. Starting out rooms were cleaned only if you requested, but restrictions loosened and cleanings were every day. Hydration stations with water bottles and Ice are quite a bonus. The hotel is Brand New which means al appliances and amenities very nice. MODERN Style! Could not have asked for anything better with my stay! Thank You Capitana Family! 1.5 miles away from downtown which made it an easy bike ride into town. I recommend renting a bike for your stay to cut prices from parking or Ubers. It's also a blast to bike down Duval! Sunshine Scooters has bikes for $10/day or Scooters for $30/day. First time in New Town, and would probably never stay in Old Town again, as long as The Capitana is here. Such a beautiful hotel right on the water. Staff is friendly and helpful, the pool is gorgeous, and the rooms are really spacious, including patios/balconies with views of the gulf. Breakfast is included each morning, and it's an actual full, hot breakfast. (No continental breakfast here.) And the tiki bar by the pool is exactly what you want in the Keys. This is the perfect hotel for a quiet getaway, with an easy $9 Uber ride into Duval (or 30 min walk if you're ambitious). Love this hotel and looking forward to coming back. read more

The property is lovely, but we were woken around 7am each morning to the cleaning staff slamming doors, yelling to one another, and watching loud YouTube videos in the hallways. After two days of this, we asked to be moved to a quieter room. The front desk staff had us pack up and bring our luggage downstairs, only to make us wait over 5 hours to be given a new room. We asked to speak to the manager, and the guy could not have been more unprofessional-- he was condescending toward my wife, argued with me about our reason for moving rooms, continuously interrupted us, and refused to apologize. We finally were give a new room, but the way we were treated put a huge damper on our stay, so much so that we decided to leave early and stayed somewhere else. We wouldn't stay there again and also wouldn't recommend it to friends and family. read more

We stayed here the first part of June. We loved the place, except a couple of things. First off, I believe all of the rooms face the pool and gulf side of KW. The room is very nice, the hotel is fresh and clean. I love that they had bottles of water all over the place to keep guest hydrated. I booked well in advance, so I had a great rate compared to the rush rate for people wanting out of town. I will only stay here next time I come to town. I read through so many iffy reviews of other places before I found the Capitana. Here are my issues: 1. As mentioned in another review, at the breakfast set up, some of the bagels had mold. I had to really pick through them. Nothing is worse than the taste of mold. Also, you need tongs to take the bagels from the hot toaster. 2. We spent a day hanging out at the pool bar. They have great drinks, with the lime koolada my fav drink. Bar tender was fabulous and we had fun conversing with his friends who were visiting from Michigan. Biggest complaint is the drinks are in small plastic cups and are $12 each. GULP! That's hella expensive, even for a nice place like this. Bigger cups or lower the price would be fabulous and then the guests don't feel ripped off and taken advantage of. 3. The pool was so dang hot, it wasn't worth getting into. Normally you get in to cool off, not get in and hope there's a breeze to cool you off. Other than those issues, I found this place to be pretty darn resortishy great. :-) read more

I had an incredible stay at The Capitana . The staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring every need was met. We had a controversial situation, we realized that one adult from our family was left without a sleeping place. Thanks to the administration, they brought an extra bed to the room and responded very quickly. This place is pets friendly. Our furry family member received a nice gift. Breakfast and bottled drinking water are included. The breakfast is filling, tasty and healthy for every taste .Our vacation was wonderful. They quickly resolve controversial situations. The rooms were spotless, spacious, and beautifully decorated, with all the amenities you could ask for. Said we could change rooms, made take out our stuff out leave in the lobby than called to said they could not change rooms. We brought back out luggage back in the room. Absolutely love the Capitana! I have stayed here a few times and it truly is a gem in Key West. The pool, vibe, views, food, and most importantly the STAFF. are above & beyond. Lee at the front desk noticed I was newly engaged- and upgraded us to a 2 bedroom suite for my mom and I with champagne and truffle chocolates. I accidentally left my airpods in the room- of which the maids grabbed & saved for me- then Dimple at the front desk coordinated shipping them back to me (so graciously!). I am truly blown away by the customer service at this hotel, and on top of it it is absolutely gorgeous and well kept. Coming back forever! You guys are amazing!!!! read more

There just aren't enough stars to properly rave about how amazing this place is. From the professional back and forth dialogue with the GM Melissa to make reservations for the exact type of room we wanted with a view of the gulf and the pool to the extra add on to make thisa romantic getaway for my wife and I with all the rose petals, heart balloons, champagne, FRESH strawberries and sorted chocolate truffles to Gary at the front desk who remains calm and composed while warmly and professionally helping an assortment of guest needs.when it's him all by himself running the front desk. To the cool bracelet room cards to the heavy cozy guest robes and slippers provided in all rooms. Amazing pool right beside a man made beach with chairs and such. With a well stocked tiki bar and small kitchen with tasty food that's delivered to you at the pool or on the beach. A generous continental breakfast that not only has the standard cereal, fruit, Bagels, pastries and milk/juices but also choices of warm breakfast choices between eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, pancakes etc... this establishment was so impeccably clean and organized. We had such a great experience at The Capitana! The staff really go out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect. The room and grounds are very clean and well maintained and the complimentary breakfast was a nice variety. The pool menu was very good too and dining at their restaurant was better than I expected, especially with the ambiance of dining with the views of the water. Gorgeous hotel with a cool vibe. Beautiful spacious rooms with refrigerator and microwave. The place is perfectly cleaned and manicured and you can practically eat off the floor (not recommended of course). Wonderful large pool with a nice deck and lounges. Nice tanning beach too, but it's not for swimming. All rooms have a gulf view which brings the whole thing together. Highly recommended! read more
