Go upstairs for your reservations, the downstairs is walk-in and bar seating. The Cullen skink soup was 10/10 (leek potato and haddock) delicious. Service was spotty 5/10 friendly server but very forgetful and didn't mention specials. We noticed the specials board after ordering. It was a windy and rainy afternoon in Inverness as we were trying to see the Diplomatic Castle when all of a sudden we turn the corner and saw this quaint little Pub. Looking for some respite and a pint we quickly entered in and was greeted with the usual Scottish hospitality and a great pint of Red Ale. The Cullen Skink soup was amazing! The staff were very friendly, and the ambiance was very nice.

Ordered the haggis crepe, mushroom soup, and Scottish salmon. The quality of the food is on par with the fancier restaurants in town. The crepe has a nice chewy texture despite that it's covered in sauce and the haggis is fresh is flavorful. Salmon is cooked just right; moist and flaky with no overt fishy smell, lemon not required to mask anything. Very cosy restaurant and seating could be a bit tight inside. read more

The Castle Tavern is located in front of the entrance to the Inverness Castle. It's very quaint restaurant / pub that provides a great view of the River Ness. The Tavern is on its own block and probably my favorite pub in Inverness. The service is friendly and you can sit outside or eat on the second floor where the main restaurant location is located. If your here for just drinks the first floor has a nice set up to mingle and enjoy your scotch. The food served is traditional Scottish food but what really stands out is simply the location and the vibe this place exudes. read more

Both were tasty, though the macaroni cheese was a little greasy. Though there were about 20 other patrons in the somewhat small space, we still didn't find it to be overly loud, though we could see it being problematic during certain times. The pastry for their Beef and Ale pie was the flakiest pastry on a meat pie I've had in years. Their Haddock and Chips is literally an entire fish with the head and tail cut off. We got to the tavern early in the evening and were able to get a table despite not having a reservation. It's probably a good idea to have a reservation in general. My husband and I had the Fish and Chips and my daughter had the Thai veggie burger. The castle tavern is a delightful little eatery in the heart of Inverness, not to far from Inverness Castle and River Ness. Although we didn't eat there today we stopped by for a drink before walking back home from the City. The traffic can be a bit loud at times though being just off the main heading down to the city center. read more

Absolutely loved this pub! Perched on top of a hill opposite the Inverness "castle" that now apparently serves as the local court, it offers a great view of that, and the surrounding area. There's a large covered seating area, a few seats out from under the roof to take in the sunshine. That was packed solid when I as there, hardly surprising as it was an absolutely gorgeous day when I visited. There was a wide mix of locals and tourists, many different accents could be heard mixing outside and in. For a busy, heaving pub, the service was quick, friendly and cheap, and it had a really good range of local and guest real ales. There was a restaurant upstairs as well, but it looked pretty busy so didn't get a chance to sample it. As a first stop for a drink in Inverness, you really couldn't do much better. It's pretty close to the main shopping street, but far enough out that it's not swamped. If Nessie could drink, she'd drink here. Providing she had ID, obviously. read more

Aside from the undeniably cool outdoor space, this spot has really tasty comfort food and a really rad local feelin. It was so great to have a quality meal after 3 days of driving through Scotland, where the food (by the tourist attractions) was "eh" and fried the living sh!t out of. My husband loved the haddock and chips. Great portions and reasonable priced. My hamburger left much to be desired. Keep in mind this is a personal preference, but I just was not happy with it. We went here for lunch on the suggestion of a friend and were so glad we did. On the first visit, the 2 of us had lunch consisting a 1/2 chicken Sunday roast and baguettes filled with tuna mayo and a side salad, a large wine and a couple of beers. The waiter was the bartender and he did a wonderful job and was attentive and friendly. Prices were very reasonable and the atmosphere was really fun-cozy, intimate and pub feeling too. We went again tonight for drinks on the patio and plan to go back again for the mussels and salmon salad. We highly recommend it! read more

Nice small pub with pub feel located on a hill in Inverness. Outdoor patio with castle view is hard to beat. Food is very good and reasonable but did not like the mussels in the olive sauce. Great food, terrible service. My group tried to get in one night and were told very bluntly there were no tables. No offer that we could wait or asking if we wanted a drink. Just very blunt. The next night we made reservations, and then had to change them by 45min. The staff was accommodating over the phone. Half our group arrived 15min early and asked if we could go ahead and sit, and that we could wait if need be. They said we could sit, but then kept asking us when the rest of the group was coming. We ordered drinks, but when we tried to order appetizers they didn't want to put them in until everyone could order and kept asking us when the rest of the group would arrive. The group then all tried to order appetizers together, and they wouldn't let us order apps until we were ready to order dinner as well. Waitstaff did not redeem themselves the rest of the night either. Food was very good, though. Go for it if you don't mind dealing with frustrating waitstaff. read more
