Steak was expensive and was at least a third nothing but fat. Service was minimal at best. Tea glass sat empty and only got one refill only because the dinner was delivered to the table. Last time was better. Disappointed with the ribeye. Kudos to the cook who actually cooked my 1" well done fully without butter flying or burning. I just don't like the seasoning they use on all their meat. Baked potatoes had multiple black rot spots. Lettuce was wilted in salad. The one pound famous pork chop was a combination of small cuts on a plate. It was sad! Prom night was awesome and this visit was sadly lacking. Like others, the order as you enter lacks class. This is pretty much the only decent restaurant in Canadian, Texas and I always make it a point to eat here when I am in town. I have had the chicken fried steak, the beef medallions, and the brisket quesadilla. All are really good. The whole ordering process seems kind of inefficient. We walked in and placed our order before being seated. Then, we took our seats. Once seated, the waitress proceeded to come back on two more separate occasions asking us what we had just ordered. The bar staff was kind of wet behind the ears. The bartender had no idea what a bottle of Jack Daniels and Smirnoff Vodka looked like. I literally had to coach her on how to make the drinks. I believe it took about 15 minutes for my brother and I to get drinks for us and our wives (and there was no line). Other than that, our experience was lovely. They serve really awesome bread pudding upon completion of the meal. I would definitely return in the future and recommend the Cattle Exchange for all those passing through Canadian. read more

This is not the cattle exchange that it once was. More like a scamming Mexican restaurant. I ordered the ribeye relleno and the meat was so chewy that I had to spit out multiple bites. Without a doubt it was not Ribye ! My sone had chicken strips and fries and the fries were disgusting ! We all tried one fry each and nobody could swallow it because it was like eating freezer burned ball of starch. If you want to pay 8 dollars for mediocre chips and salsa and spent a ton of money on cheap and nasty food you'll love this place ! Very disappointed ! read more

The Chicken fried Ribeye is not only a plateful but will melt in your mouth. The fries and salad that come with it are delicious, but I highly recommend you save room for the bread pudding with whiskey sauce! read more

We have eaten here several times and is always good. We were glad to see they did away with ordering when you walk in. It helps to be able to sit down and look a menu over. We actually ordered Mexican food this time. My husband got enchiladas. He said they were ok. I ordered the steak street tacos. I got ground beef ones. Not a big deal. They were different than any other street tacos I have had before. They were good. The next time we go we will probably go back to steaks or bbq but was an ok change. It's canadian, tx so I didn't have high expectations. I'd always heard that the prices were high but the food was good. Service was terrible as expected, I had to flag my waiter down every time someone at the table needed something. Not a single plate, beer bottle, or can (yes a they are serving beer by the can in a restaurant that you can easily pay 50-100 dollars for a dinner) was collected from the table in over an hour that I was there. So worth the drive! The food and service were both amazing. Try the steak medallions - wrapped in bacon and cooked perfectly. Mine were 2 inches thick, cooked perfectly well-done as I ordered, and still juicy and so tender! And the porter house rolls - oh my gosh! We usually get the beef medallions when we eat here. Always very good. Last time, I had the 1" ribeye. Had it cooked medium rare as it's pretty easy to over cook a 1" thick steak. It was the best ribeye I've had there. Love the bread pudding. Not a big fan of placing the order when you come in at the front desk as it seems too much like a fast food restaurant. But, it works. A good steak will have fat in it and around it. That's where the marbling comes from that makes the steak tender. Haven't eaten any of the Japanese type steaks as they are out of my price range. My wife usually either gets the beef medallions or the fried catfish. Very good salad as well as blue cheese dressing. The dressing comes on the side in a plastic covered cup. read more
