Interesting concept is what attracted us to this restaurant. The cave walls and how the building is structured makes for a great soundproof environment. However if your going to eat here be prepared for screaming kids and large groups. Wouldn't recommend for a couples date dinner. The service is a 5/10. Reason being our waitress spilt our drink all over and handed me a drink that was dripping in pina colada. She didn't clean up the table that it was spilt on. I grabbed all my napkins and cleaned everything myself and she noticed I used all of napkins and didn't offer more. I thought that was odd. The Pina Colada was sub par and i would not pay 9$ for it again and that was a mistake. Food was a 8/10. I had the stick and drum option which was about 5 ribs and 2 drumsticks. Both were made well and tasted great. Came with standard fries and a small lump of vegetables. My girlfriend had the chicken souvlaki and gave it a 10/10. Both options were priced fairly although I was a little disappointed with the menu. I couldn't help but think of all the creative ideas and concepts they could have done with the cave theme. The Cave stands out is for intimate meals as there are plenty of more secluded seating and with the strikingly unique atmosphere it makes for a memorable meal. The varying rooms and seating also makes it great for groups. I'd recommend for work meals like Christmas lunch. Otherwise I'd say it could considered standard tourist trap stuff. Overpriced mediocre food. Service was 'ok'. Service didn't feel authentic or warm. If someone comes from out of town it is an interesting and memorable place to go. The food was actually good especially the French onion soup. But giving this restaurant 1 star because of the terrible service and we feel like we were being played by the waitress! She's the old blonde lady. So not flexible with customers. Says "No" a lot. Hope she doesn't have kids. So anyway, we ordered the baked chicken fettuccini and it comes with a free orzo soup. But we didn't notice so we didn't mention it to the waitress. The waitress also didn't ask us if we wanted the orzo soup or a French onion soup which would cost us an additional $2.50. So we were served with our baked chicken fettuccini without the soup. Only after we realized that hey, we think we were supposed to be getting a soup, did we ask for the menu again and pointed out that we were supposed to be served with soup. The waitress said that because we didn't say anything so she didn't serve us. Well, wasn't she supposed to either ask us if we wanted it OR serve it anyway because it comes with the meal? PLUS, because we ordered the soup AFTER the baked chicken fettuccini came, we were charged with the original price of the soup which was $8.50, instead of the $2.50 (change from orzo to french onion). Not only that, on the menu, their baked chicken fettuccini costs $19.95, but we were charged with additional $1 because we ordered BAKED chicken fettuccini. We literally ordered off the menu and we were being charged more?! When we told her about this, she just shrugged and said that that's what they normally do. THIS RESTAURANT IS RIPPING CUSTOMERS OFF!!! Maybe the customers aren't reading their bill, or maybe they saw that we were Asians and possibly couldn't read English or maybe they didn't realize that Asians are terribly good at math. Here is what you are gonna want to do.. 1) Order a Pepperoni Pizza. 2) Go easy on the meat (unless you love meat, in which case go ham... except don't because its a pepperoni pizza...thats just young persons slang) 3) Get extra sauce idk what they put in that sauce but its all the tomato goodness you would expect with a little kick of sweetness.. 4) Get it well done, I have no idea what that means but my god your taste buds with thank you for it. 5) Tip big tell all your friends and go back for seconds, hell leave a yelp review if you're feeling fancy. read more

The Cave uses a fossil concept that was likely hip and trendy in the 80s-90s. Now it's where you go when you want a family friendly atmosphere along with your standard meat and potatoes meal. One great thing about The Cave is that they know this about themselves and aren't pretentious about it. At face value, you get a great two course meal with room for choices for as little as $18. You practically don't get that ANYWHERE anymore!! Amongst the four of us, our entrees were Greek ribs, halibut, and prime rib. The Greek ribs were seasoned well and moist. The halibut was kind of dry, but you can't expect great seafood in a landlocked city. My only qualm about the prime rib was their standard for doneness is a notch above normal. My BIL and I ordered ours medium rare, but they came out medium. I know $30 for prime rib is a decent price, but it's still $30. We sent it back and asked for a rare cut. The rare came out medium rare by normal standards, so I guess if you want prime rib that's even more rare than that, just order something else. Overall, The Cave is a good option for families to enjoy a nice meal that will fill up bellies that won't break the bank. I think it's worth a try especially for the 90s throw back. read more

Went there tonight with our young kids and will never return. The decor is fun and different but the food was horrible. We all left nauseous. The bread on the hamburger and rolls were stale. The tomato sauce on the pasta and pizza tasted odd. The salmon and mushrooms were good at first but then oily. The tomato orzo soup and house salad were fine. The steak and baked potato were terrible. I had no idea a restaurant can ruin a baked potato... We weren't expecting great food since we figured this spot was mostly about the atmosphere. However we were not expecting to leave disgusted. I hope it was just an off night but we will not return to find out. read more

Went for lunch. My spouse wasn't dressed appropriately for the restaurant so we opted for the lounge. It was extremely cold outside so we didn't want to sit near the window. I picked out a table but as I was about to have a seat I noticed dried puke in the chair. Yuk!! I was starving so we ended up sitting by the window. It was cold so had to keep my jacket on. Very disappointing. The food was not great. I had the Shrimp Dinner and my husband had the Veal. Our baked potatoes were cold and the butter didn't even melt on mine. The Veal was so-so, but he's not one to complain. My dinner was terrible - rubbery tasteless deep fried shrimp. It didn't even taste like shrimp. The shrimp was served on top of cold, greasy, so-called Garlic Toast. Now - I love Garlic Toast, but that card board I couldn't even eat. Our waitress was Ok, but didn't go out of her way. This was suppose to be a romantic birthday supper, but I had to eat with my coat on as it was cold and drafty; then there were kids running up and down the aisles. Not the quiet, friendly place that we have experienced back in the 1980's. This is no longer a nice restaurant, but a loud Family Restaurant with greasy food. It's definitely not the worst place in town. The last time I was here it was 1989 and the place hasn't changed much at all. The Cave still has an interesting ambience, but that's the best attribute here. The beer is well, beer, but the food has leaves much to be desired. It's all about the ingredients and although I only had a hamburger with fries...it was one of the most tasteless burgers I have had. I am not a fan of the frozen patty, but I am more unimpressed that it was so obvious it was a frozen patty. Enveloping my burger were soft tomatoes and lettuce with black on it. The decor is novel so The Cave is worth a visit once just for this reason. The bonus is that they know how to dish up a mean entree for a good price. I couldn't believe it when my Chicken Souvlaki meal included soup and salad for $18.95. The dinner buns that grace the table are white bread only, but if you're going out for a meal, how many of you are really calorie counting at this point? I would have preferred whole wheat, but I embraced our old fashioned belief that white bread is king and gobbled up a buttery bread roll. The chicken was extremely tender and flavorful, the rice pilaf was fabulous and I easily could have devoured another bowl of soup. The only disappointment was the vegetables, as they clearly were of the frozen variety. That being said, I didn't feel guilty about skipping my veggies because it just left more room for better tasting calories. The four others in my party raved about their meals as well. My spouse said his steak was better than his last one at The Keg and he was pretty excited about the size of the shrimp that accompanied it. The tableware is unpretentious but the service experience was first-rate. I wouldn't consider The Cave to be a super classy outing but it's not to be missed if you're looking for a great meal that won't break the bank. read more

It was like my college roommates cooking; just-add-water-box-meal, hungry-man-food, cafeteria food. My caesar salad was limp and drenched in dressing. Went for dinner after living away from Saskatoon for many years. Was pleasantly surprised how well the interior had been kept up. Food was all really well made and tasty - not pre-cooked frozen and reheated like many of the chains. Coffee so good that I finished the first cup in about 30 seconds flat. It was our first visit to The Cave that we had heard so much about. the decor was wonderful, and nice and quiet. But the food was badly prepared that took forever to arrive even though we arrived very late on a Saturday evening with very few of the tables occupied. The food was so atrocious that my wife and son couldn't eat their food. My wife then decided to take her and our son's food home, hoping to cook it properly and spicing it up. Alas, that didn't work either and we had to throw the entire food away. My own Rainbow Trout was simply a sautéed whole fish with not even enough salt. I ate it because I had to, as I was hungry. Patty, the waitress provided some really atrocious service. I could see from her body language and the long face that she was unhappy when we were not ready to order when she came in twice within 3 minutes to learn that we were not ready. Well, it does take a few minutes, with a 7 and a 9 year old to know what they want. I had to get up three times from my seat, find the nearest waitress and ask her for little things such as a few pieces of lemon, filling my glass with water, etc. Our waitress was simply invisible, though the restaurant was almost empty. Even with bad food, our evening wouldn't have been ruined if we had reasonable service, or any service, for that matter. Can you imagine our waitress coming with a water jug to fill my glass (when another waitress nearby had just called her at my request) with water and not filling my wife's glass who had extended it towards her? She was in a hurry when she came in, was hurrily talking to me when she arrived, while filling my glass at the same time, and left in a hurry without filling my wife's. One of my favorites. As you enter the restaurant you are instantly transported to the Stone Age. Why, is that a cave woman waiting to seat us? No, my good man. That's merely the greeter. As we walk to our table I prepare myself for possibly having to fight a bear to the death (see Revenant). Now for the meal. Quality of the food is perhaps a notch below The Keg, but closer than you might expect. The two notable items here are the chicken breast and the Greek ribs. The chicken is lightly charred on the outside, flavorful, and so tender you can gently slice through it with a butter knife. Very few places offer Greek style ribs, and they cook them to perfection at The Cave. Me like. Tip: Bring a date who is really skinny and doesn't eat much, then order the dinner for two. It includes two steaks, two chicken breasts, two orders of ribs, and so on. You could call it the Noah's Ark special, but maybe that's too churchy. Anyway, I would always go there with my wife and we would order that, and I would end up eating a meal and a half. What a shame how this restaurants food has went down hill , I first ate at the cave in 1978 and the food was great ,for years jim and his brother ran the cave, jim is still there but the brother is not and he ran the kitchen which made the cave great ,today we went to the cave to try the food again we ordered pizza ,the cave special it came burnt black in areas the first time they made a second one and it was half cooked I have had this pizza many times as well as other menu items over the past 40 years! the last number of times the food has been horrible ,I talked to jim who owns the cave he is in his 80s now about how the food was great for many years and in the past year or two the quality of there meals has really went down he seems to not care if the food is of the same grade as when his brother ran the kitchen,,so after being a regular customer of this restaurant for 40 years I can no longer suggest there food as there are many restaurants that prepare food far better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This place is timeless or corny but the food is Good large portions and still some of the best Greek Ribs out there always, I have eaten here since I was a little girl. over the years they have always been consistent good and good service and clean. now the oldest son is running things and service has taken a step forward, now having younger servers and so many new servers and each one them trained so well and showing so much concern with the guests satisfaction. The menu has been made smaller and fine tuned a bit the menu still having all the old favorites and still undiscovered the Orozo soup is the best, so good and their house dressing for the salads is fantastic I wish I could buy it by the bottle, so good. The Cave is a standard in Saskatoon I have been a fan for over 40 yrs but appreciate the subtle changes and will always recommend the Drums and sticks as the biggest bang for the buck. read more

The novelty of The Cave brought me in, but I won't be coming back anytime soon. I'd visited on the weekend with my Little Sister as a special treat (I volunteer as a mentor). We were happily greeted and seated. The place is pretty neat inside and the menu had seemingly good options. Unfortunately, we had to wait 20 minutes for a server to visit our table despite several occupied tables around us. I was just about to get up to seek out some help when he showed up. The kids pizza was pretty good, but the reason I knew that is because the Caesar salad was soggy and limp, and the bread that came with the steak sandwich was stale - as if it was left from the night before for croutons. The steak was cooked to perfection, and I wasn't able to ask for a different piece of toast or a different salad because the server didn't revisit our table for more than 45 minutes after dropping off the food. He didn't clear the plates when I asked to pay and he ran to get the bill, probably realizing he'd forgotten about us. It wasn't lunch rush. About 2:00, in fact. When I was leaving and the hostess asked how we enjoyed our meal, I explained all of this and she replied with something to the tune of, "aw, that's too bad." Disappointing.
