Small town. Small minds. I heard a couple say that as I was walking down the street toward this restaurant. It's such an unfair statement, especially when applied to Saskatoon. This is a wonderful little town that punches above its weight. The meal I had here may have been the best I've had in 2023 (or at least tied with the one I had in Marfa, Texas). From the scallions to the pasta to the fish to the pudding like dessert paired with a sweet wine, each course complemented the next. The folks here were all so nice and I trusted them to surprise me with each aspect of the meal. I love it when I can hand that decision to experts. In such a short time, I've come to love Saskatoon. The people here have been great and with a meal like I had tonight, I'll put up this small town against much bigger ones anytime. No small minds here. read more

The pasta here is incredible. Everything is made by hand I'd had Shrimp Vongoleand the sauce was amazing - a perfect blend of spices and citrus. And I couldn't make up my mind wren two desserts so they gave me a small portion of each - rhubarb sorbet and blackberry Panna Cotta. The service is first rate. Cute, homey little restaurant in downtown Saskatoon. And I mean little - the place probably only seats up to 20 people, if that. Great place to dine if you want to sit and enjoy your dinner with company. There was only three people working in the restaurant that evening - the hostess/waitress and the two chefs in the kitchen. It took some time to get our food but I think the point wasn't to rush this fine dining experience. If you want a quick meal, this isn't the place for you. For appetizers, we ordered the homemade ricotta and the panzanella salad. Both were excellent dishes. The ricotta was light, creamy, and silky and the chili jam gave the cheese some sweetness and a hint of spice. The panzanella salad tasted incredibly fresh but the red wine vinaigrette was barely detectable. Despite that, there was still some good tang. Also, I didn't think the capers really added much but I'm not a capers fan anyway. I ordered the ricotta ravioli and I enjoyed the fresh pasta dough used. I think they also used the same ricotta as the appetizer so it was nice and light and creamy. The brown butter sauce was a touch too salty for me but had good rich flavor otherwise. I was a little disappointed with the sage flavor though - wasn't very strong. We ordered the elderflower panna cotta for dessert and it was a bit of a letdown. I'm not sure what elderflower is supposed to taste like but the panna cotta tasted like yogurt to me. Besides the flavor, the dessert was creamy and thick and the strawberries complemented the dish well. Four of us came in supper as a first time experience. We ordered the 6 course Alla Famiglia (@$65 per peraon). Basically the chef's choice and a selection of the dishes they recommend. Started with a delicious glass of Chateau St. Jean, a French Grenache & Syrah. The supper came out perfectly paced and we enjoyed each and every dish. I forgot to write them all down. Started with a crab dish and an amazing salad. Next was a ravioli in a brown sugar butter sauce. Then spaghetti clams in a wonderful broth. Following was an amazing glazed trout in a tomato medley. So I'm in Saskatoon for a few days. I'm a foodie but not a poster. Must this be my first review that's how you know it was amazing? The Italian restaurant was quite cozy not a big place as you can see the chef cooking. The mushrooms spread on toast were Not on the menus it was a special feature they had that day. I love The taste was amazing. You must like mushrooms. Charred octopus was to die for! I can eat 100 of them. Probably the best octopus dish I ever try. Yes, I have tried a lot. The combination of the flavour came and had great balance to my taste. Ricotta ravioli is a must. Soft and buttery taste. The pasta is made fresh made to order. Give it a 3 and half, not totally 4 but not a 3. They've changed their chef several times, I loved the old chef Jesse! Made this amazing uni pasta everything I was in town. Since then, never been the same. Last year it was the worse, had this pasta and aged beef. It came out basically with rigatoni noodles with minced beef, tasted just like Michelina's frozen dollar but 30 times the price! Recently went this summer and new chef, her best dish is the soft shell crab with an aioli and Thai basil. It's so delicious, ordered two but everything else on the menu is pretty basic and expensive for the portion and the simplicity of the dish. read more

While I was enjoying my first few bites of an exquisitely crafted tasting menu, called "alla famigillia" , another patron exited the premises aghast at the prices listed on the menu. What a horrible choice for that poor soul whom I can only hope returns to enjoy the incredible gastronomic journey they have missed out on. I was treated to course after course of passionately created courses that were enhanced by the friendliness and inviting nature of the wait staff and chefs. Chef Jesse and his colleagues entertained me and engaged me on a personal level akin to any amazing friend ( chef) inviting you over for a gathering. I can not stress just how wonderful the food and staff are. Make a reservation now!!! I am so glad ( and full) that I have found this true gem . Saskatoon Saskatchewan is truly blessed to have a restaurant of this caliber in its midst. I drove a third of the way across the country to eat at this restaurant. I'm from Vancouver where I would say we have a bit more of a foodie scene and I don't think I could find a better Italian restaurant back home. I also don't think I've ever had fresh pasta this amazing! We sat at the pasta bar and ordered alla famiglia (which frankly is the only way to go...it's $60-$75 per person and Chef Jesse will not let you leave hungry). You get to have multiple dishes off the menu and it is really a great experience. The pasta is made fresh daily and Chef Jesse makes each order as the orders come in. I really mean that you get to watch him make your raviolis or tortellinis! If you sit at the bar, you will also get a chance to chat with Chef Jesse. You really get to understand how passionate he is about food and sometimes he'll even let you have a whiff of some of the new and unique ingredients he gets in. We also got the wine pairings with our meal. Erick did a great job pairing our wines and we definitely got to try a few wines we'd never had before. Overall the experience was absolutely fantastic and I am seriously considering flying back to eat there again. The menu changes all the time so I'm not even going to go into specifics about what we ate (also because if I were to describe every dish this review would be 10 pages long but check out the pics for a taste of what we got). Don't leave without eating dessert. You won't find your average slice of tiramisu here (thank god). It would be an absolute shame to leave Saskatoon without eating here! read more

We had a beautiful meal here. The menu had really nice options and the food was impeccably prepared. It was very delicious. And our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. Because of the Government of Saskatchewan COVID rules masks are no longer mandatory. As a result only one of the four employees of the restaurant was masked. I heard about Little Grouse on the Prarie from a friend in Vancouver who loved Lumière, a former restaurant which shared the same chef, Dale MacKay. The restaurant is quite small, so I would highly recommend making a reservation (you can make one on OpenTable). A few people walked in for dinner, but all of the tables were reserved. The restaurant didn't have music playing and the tables were nicely spaced, allowing for a conversation with friends. Our server was also the front of house manager and sommelier. They had an amazing knowledge of the menu and answered all of our many questions, as many words on the menu were Italian. They offer a sharing menu, but we decided to order a la carte. The serving sizes are small (by Saskatoon standards), but quite filling. Just make sure to order two dishes if you're hungry. I had a large lunch, so I only had one dish. I went with the cannellini dish, which were filled with spinach and cheese. Others at the table had the beef, arctic char, spaghetti, and mushroom risotto, which they enjoyed. The prices are high, but the food is definitely worth it. The restaurant has a casual ambiance, so no need to dress formally. I will definitely be back! read more

Little grouse is my favourite restaurant in the province. It brings a big city vibe with its open kitchen and exciting food by the talented Chef Jesse. The tasting menu gives you a chance to try a ton of stuff and really surprise you with new things. They source some great ingredients that you won't find anywhere else in Saskatchewan. This meal I was treated to an amazing burrata special with samphire and nasturtium that showcased both the ingredient sourcing and technique of the kitchen.This was my 5th visit and I'll keep coming back, it's a real treat. read more

An incredibly disappointing meal priced at $200 for a couple with a bottle of wine. The menu is overly ambitious, set out with a number of items per course, Italian style. Portions are very small and make for poor family style sharing. Our salad was overly salted, wilted, and oily. The foie gras was a bizarre wafer combining seaweed and sea urchin -a poor flavour combo. The beef and kale entrée was served cold and was the size of an appetizer, and the veal and heirloom tomato entrée was bland and watery. Items were well-romanced but arrived and all we could think was "We were duped." Our large party all left hungry. We will definitely pass on this restaurant in future. Dined there solo on a layover in Saskatoon on August 2. Was accommodated without a reservation (only a request, kindly made, that I not exceed 1 1/2 hours for my meal, as the table was reserved at that later time). The meal was exceptional, as was the service from the knowledgeable server who also served as hostess, doing both gracefully. I had the panzanella salad as a starter, and it was among the best I've had, including many in Italy. Fresh, sweet local tomatoes, perfect amount of dressing, bread bits that accommodated the dressing without becoming soggy...perfect. I asked that the capers be excluded and the chef chose to add bits of cooked chicken skin to replace the capers' lost crunch. Very Nice touch! Main course was fazzoletti pasta with lamb ragu. In a word, wow. The pasta was cooked to complete perfection, just past al dente but still perfectly firm. The sauce was also amazing, with the only tiny (and I mean tiny) exception being a few bites where the sweetness of the charred peppers overpowered the lamb. Very minor! Still an "A" grade! Congrats and thanks to the Grouse team for the high standard of dining and hospitality. Oh, and at a very reasonable price. Well done!!! read more

This is place is way too expensive in my opinion. If you don't go for the discovery menu you will pay 13$ for a soup and 24$ for a very simple bowl of pasta. It is a robery. I'm sure that the famiglia discovery menu thing for 70$ per person is better but it's still over price for what you get. I wish I knew all that before sitting at that table. read more

What a joke. If you want a $100 meal that leaves you hungry you should go here. We Got totally ripped off by a Snotty server who gave us terrible service. A member of my party had an allergy that was totally ignored. The tasting menu which cost $65 per person was so little food and we were even Charged for a crostini for the third person in our group who paid $65!! So petty. We even had to split one small dessert 3 ways when we each paid the whole amount. Step up your game or decrease your prices. Never going there again and telling everyone to never go here to have a meal that costs $100 and leave hungry. read more

There was mistake with my meal and I was happy to wait for it to be fixed but instead they acted as though I had inconvenienced them. It is quite expensive for sure and not something I'd do regularly but I felt the quality of the food was worth the price. The food was amazing but I have no idea how the qualifies for the $$ price rating. Each menu item is about $20-$25, which seems fine when you look at the menu. However, when my wife and I went to order, the server told us that most people order 2-3 items each. We ordered an appetizer and an order of pasta each and my wife had one glass of wine.
