I was an employee of the Cedars from 2000 to 2017. I was very proud to work there and I have told my friends I would recommend The Cedars to anyone who is in need of a skilled rehabilitation center. I would be happy to have a family member be a patient there. The Cedars is non-profit, and their focus on quality patient care shows. The bottom line is not about money. I was proud to work there, and I would work there again. It is a clean facility, with very caring CNAs who are very good at their jobs. The nurses are smart and caring. The PTs, OTs, speech therapist and therapy assistants have excellent skills. The Cedars have had the same staff for many years. This place is understaffed and the level of care is terrible. It was not clean, response times for patients were ridiculous. I watched a patient literally crawl out of his room. They talk a great game but are hardly communicative unless pushed. My parent was discharged after a month and ended up spending 11 days in the hospital two hours after getting home. Effective rehab experience??? Not! We were advocating for our parent & experienced a marginal effort for her to regain some health. Imagine those elderly folks who don't have family. Beware! I have worked at The Cedars for 13 years now and It has truly been a wonderful place! During my career here, I have had the opportunity to work with a fun and dynamic team, that has person centered care at heart. The Cedars offers a constant opportunity for growth and fosters a positive work environment for staff. The community culture is focused on making sure that the lives of our residents are met with meaningful and compassionate care. We have a robust volunteer program offering 1:1 visits, pet therapy, nail/hand care massage, musicians etc...so many programs to add more enrichment to an already fulfilling and superb lifestyle here. My brother, who has aspergers, several depressive syndromes and atypical Parkinson's recently returned home after a three week stay at the physical rehab center at the Cedars. He had gone there to regain some strength after a three week hospital stay. His care coordinator was at best uninformed and ineffective to treat his type of disabilities and certainly not understanding nor compassionate enough. I have a medical POA for my brother as he is incapable of advocating for himself and articulating his wants and needs. He is a gentle man, kind, caring and submissive to anyone who wants to bully him. After a week, I received a phone call from said care coordinator informing me that he was doing wonderful, walking great, toileting fine and will be going home the following week. After speaking with my brother and the physical therapist, I received a different opinion in regards to his physical strength. He couldn't even stand up on his own. The "care" coordinator phoned me and proceeded to go up one side of me and down the other. Telling me my brother will never get any better, he has a progressive disease, (no, really?) he cannot toilet himself, he will never get any better, and he needs to go home. He has Mainecare that picks up after his Medicare stops paying. She continued on with he was on Mainecare and no one wants Mainecare patients as they don't pay the entire bill, no nursing home will take him and he needs to go home. She was nasty and angry. Really someone who should not be around disabled adults. She ended that he would stay another week and then he will be sent home. My brother lives by himself and we are making every effort to keep him independent as he chooses to be. She called the next week and I was asked what type of transportation would I prefer. I told her I wanted a medical transport so he could stay in his wheelchair and be taken home with as much comfort as possible. We dropped off his wheelchair for this to happen. Instead of using their own van, my brother lives ten minutes away, they called Logisticare so it would be paid by Mainecare who sent an UBER driver in a little nasty prius to bring him home. And Cedars stuffed him into the car and sent him on his way. Shame on you Cedars. Shame on you. I would NOT allow my brother to be sent there again. Although chances are where I was told they didn't like Mainecare patients he wouldn't be welcomed there anyway. read more

The apartments are lovely, if you can afford it. As far as the skilled nursing facility is was very bad. Most of the staff were inattentive and kept giving excuses like "short staffed". Unacceptable. My mom was there for rehab and at dinner in the dining area she would be served last, like 20 minutes last after the others were served. One time she was left sitting alone in the dining area for 2 hours. She cannot wheel herself. She later would take her meals in her room. One time they never even served her dinner. Very unacceptable. Some of the staff gave the impression of not really caring about the people they are paid to attend to. If you're looking for skilled nursing, this is definitely NOT the place. I give it 12 thumbs down. read more
