This place great…read more I confess, I've only been there once, but I am going back!! I live nowhere near there... I live near Midway Airport. I have searched and searched the south side for yoga options near my house and have found slim pickings. I used to go to Global Yoga Center when I lived up north, so I have developed expectations about what environment should be like when I practice yoga. BYC totally met those expectations. I dropped in on a Sunday evening Yin class, which was totally new to me. (BYC has descriptions of all of its classes on its website). They have a bunch of workshops coming up and I am excited about doing a couple of those. It's a clean, peaceful and friendly place. And unlike the north side, parking was plentiful. For me, it is well worth a 1/2 hour drive to get there for a yoga fix.

oftentimes, i get to relive a favorite childhood activity with my three year old - swinging so high…read more(i scare myself), playing tag (and rarely being "it"), coloring outside the lines (on purpose), eating stuff that is usually "meant" for kiddie consumption, etc... but i also find myself living vicariously through my three year old. sometimes because i just can't physically do the things she does - like yoga poses at the beverly yoga center. now, admittedly, i've never been to another yoga center so, i can't really compare the beverly yoga center with any others. but, i can tell you what i do know. the main space seems small but it's open, bright, sunny, welcoming and calming. the hardwood floors look very new and are very clean. except for one wall, it's mostly windows. but, since you're on the second floor, all you see is sky, a roof here and there and tree branches. they do have air conditioning and fans which were great when we had that heat wave. there are little cubbies when you walk in the door for your personal items. and there's a very clean, private, modern bathroom towards the back of the space. they have mats and other equipment for student use. and for extra brownie points, they don't bat an eye, when i have to break out a boob to feed my son. carley, the director was very helpful and proactive when i tried to sign my daughter up for classes when the center's phones were out of order. we played phone tag forever, but she was never impatient or annoyed about it. she's very friendly and "genuine". my daughter's teacher, adenia, is truly awesome. she has a talent for teaching children, keeping them interested, allowing them to express themselves physically and verbally, always engaging their imaginations, etc... she's very patient and kind and always happy to encourage with hugs. and she's probably as flexible as gumby. :) the center has a bevy of classes for all levels - for beginning to advanced students, toddlers to octogenarians. so, if you're interested you should check them out. in some ways, the beverly neighborhood looks like it's playing catch up with the northside neighborhoods. so, i have to applaud and encourage carley and the beverly yoga center for taking a chance on the beverly community and anchoring their center here. i know as soon as our youngest is a little older, i'll be signing up for a beginners class as well. maybe i'll see you there! :)

"DO PILATES. DO LIFE."…read more It just made sense to wait until I had a good amount of classes under my belt before giving my honest review. I had a membership at a luxury Chicago gym where Pilates was included. Classes were always booked. I peeked inside the studio where classes were held and the machine looked a bit intimidating. Didn't know what it was, how it worked and no one was available for questions. Running errands in Evergreen Park one day and saw a Club Pilates being built. I'm curious by nature and asked if I could have a look. I was granted access by the contractor but told to watch my step and be careful. I was in awe. One day I received an email invite to join at a discounted rate. I don't even care how they got my information, I was happy to sign up. I would have my husband drive past the location to check on the progress and see how close the club was to being open. Can you sense my level of excitement? It's real! Lisa the host receptionist has been absolutely amazing at helping me to understand how to book my classes. Thank you. Small studio; cozy with nice lighting. Each instructor has their own playlist to motivate you to move. The club sells a few quality work out pieces as well as cute no-grip socks. The pilates machine is called a reformer and it's not as intimidating as one might think. Turns out, it's LOTS of FUN! I love that classes are small and intimate. Twelve maximum. I love how motivating my instructors are. I love the overall benefits my body is receiving from being consistent. Truly a mind, body connection. Something I have never said about working out.

I had really high hopes for this studio as it is new and close to home, but it's a bit…read moredisappointing. I have attended three classes here so far and things went from great to bad pretty quickly. My first class here was a 1.5 class with Kathy and it was INCREDIBLE! She offered modifications and amplifications and the workout was sometimes challenging. Her cues were always clear and the flow was nice from start to finish. My second class was with Melinda and was also a 1.5 class. She comes off as militant and snobby for lack of better terms (which I am not saying as a bad thing). If sly remarks at the expense of clients while seeking validation from other clients in laughter is your thing, then she's for you. Other than this, her class was good--challenging and engaging with few hiccups in the cues and only a couple gaps in the flow. My most recent visit was upsetting. I have taken more than 20 classes at various CP studios in the last couple months so I felt I had a pretty good idea about what to expect when signing up for the level 1 class. But, it was evident in the first two minutes of class with Nicki that it would be a waste of time and money. Fortunately, I was given the credit back for the class. If you're looking to take a class and leave feeling as if you just worked out, I'd advise passing up on her level 1 classes. In general, she does not seem to be a fan of amplifications, so I'll skip booking with her in the future. For older clients, or those new to reformer, she'd seemingly be a good fit. It is also worth noting that the studio does not yet offer level 2 classes but is hosting workshops in February about leveling up to level 2. I hear level 2 classes will be offered in March.
