My mother came in for a visit and went to check in. Upon time of check in, she was directed to the wrong department and for some odd reason she was talked about? Which is highly unacceptable; Santa Cutter decided it was alright to talk about my mother as she was checking in due to her knowing a former employee. Not only was it NOT in the back office where they are more than welcome to have their private conversations but in front of her face, was extremely rude. I do not appreciate the blatant disrespect and that needs to be addressed before she comes back for therapy. I have been a patient at Center for Advanced Orthopedics for nearly 10 years. I have had a range of injuries which include multiple finger dislocations which needed immediate attention, trigger thumb injection and surgery, fractured ankle and knee injections for osteoarthritis. All doctors and their physician assistants have provided outstanding care and provide excellent clear and concise explanations of my treatment plan, Front desk staff and schedulers are prompt and courteous and Physical Therapy Department is highly skilled as well. I've had two appointments, both have been rescheduled. The second one was to go over MRIs on my neck after a car accident. The reschedule would have pushed me back 3 weeks from my initial appointment with the doctor which means more than 3 months after my accident. The reason for the second reschedule? They are closing early on Friday June 30th because it is the weekend of the 4th of July...which is actually a Tuesday. This also affected my girlfriend who was scheduled after my appointment on the 30th. They had one time slot left on the 7th. I gave it to her and informed the scheduling lady on the phone with me that I will call them back about my appointment if I decide to stay with them. You doctors need to realize that while you see us as patients we are also customers and have other options. You don't run a non-profit so you should be taking better care of the people who pay your salaries. If there are patients scheduled, then you don't get off because you just want an extra day off. These are real, medical issues that people have, and while it doesn't personally affect you, it does affect us. It is inconvenient for us, especially since we often times have to clear up our own schedules to make those appointments. But enjoy that extra day of cooking out I guess. read more

The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Washington, DC is probably the worst orthopedic clinic in the Washington, DC area: the doctors there are more like businessmen masquerading as orthopedists. When I visited Dr. Benjamin Stein at The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Washington, DC , I was (eventually, after a long wait) taken to the X-Ray room. The X-Ray room contained an X-ray apparatus that looks years obsolete. Other orthopedic clinics in the Washington, DC area have more sophisticated diagnostic equipment. The X-ray technician took X-rays of my feet and knees and then it was time to meet Dr. Benjamin Stein. I told Dr. Stein of the problems I have been having: 1) an injured big toe on my right foot; 2) persistent soreness in my knees, especially when walking on stairs; and 3) I need new orthotic foot pads. Dr. Stein then addressed each problem in the most cavalier manner: 1) Dr. Stein examined the X-rays of my injured big toe: a very small bone fragment has splintered off and is pressing against the flesh in the top of the toe. Apparently from the X-ray, it was evident even to a medical neophyte like myself that it needed to be surgically removed. Instead, Dr. Stein simply said it will heal by itself. A few weeks later, it is still evident that the bone fragment has not healed back into place and needs surgical removal. 2) Dr. Stein said the X-rays did not reveal any problem with my knees. I have to admit that to my untrained eye that I could not see any visible damage from the X-ray, but I asked Dr. Stein why the soreness in my knees persists. Dr. Stein said he didn't know. I asked Dr. Stein if there was no improvement in my knees nine months from now and I remain in pain would he write a letter to my landlord noting that walking on the stairs in my house causes me pain in my knees and recommend that my landlord release me from my lease so I could rent an apartment with no stairs. Dr. Stein looked at me as if I had asked him to kill someone for me and took offense saying that he did not write such letters. I suppose he has never heard of the phrases "reasonable accommodation of a medical condition" or "supporting documentation." 3) I explained to Dr. Stein that I have a genetic disorder that creates larger than normal dorsal bones in my feet that extend bottom-wise half-an-inch or so, requiring orthopedic foot pads - at least two other orthopedic doctors explained that to me previously. Dr. Stein said he had never heard of any such genetic disorder of the dorsal bone! Where did he go to medical school?! Dr. Stein simply gave me a prescription for new orthotic pads and a few weeks later I received a bill for a total of $245.56 for the X-rays. Apparently, Dr. Stein charges approximately twice the amount for X-rays that Blue Cross/Blue Shield will pay for, so we patients have to pay a large co-payment and deductible to The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics. If your doctor refers you to Dr. Benjamin Stein or any other doctor at the The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Washington, DC refuse the referral and find a new doctor who will refer a better orthopedic doctor or orthopedic clinic (I am changing primary care doctors because my current one always refers me to mediocre specialists, which is why I ended up seeing Dr. Stein.). Please find yourself a better orthopedic doctor: you will receive only inadequate care and excessive bills from Dr. Benjamin Stein and The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Washington, DC. read more

My local Ortho office was bought out by The Center early 2024. I was pretty happy with the nurses and doctors from previous fall when I had carpal tunnel surgery. No billing issues either. BUT then in comes the big corporation, and billing issues and arguments ensued for knee injection in spring. It started with a bill 2 months later for the injection gel that they receive from my specialty pharmacy directly, who would not ship it until my copay was paid. I had to make a few calls to get someone who understood they can not bill me for medication. The billing code was for medication. Finally got that straightened out and 5 months later I get a bill for 2 office copays with a very stern warning my account is seriously past due from my ignoring their notices. Really?! I never received anything before. I probably haven't because in order to be seen you check in and MUST pay your office co-pay to be seen. Which I paid. Actually while on the phone previously about the over billing medication she told me I had a credit for paying for a visit once that was not required that they went ahead and applied to that medication charge. Yeah, no I never got that back when we cleared up I didn't owe for medication. I'll get this straightened out tomorrow or after I make a few calls and get the right person on the phone, but for now I wanted to let people know PLEASE read any bills you receive this company. They like to double bill, overcharge and just plain try to rip people off, in hopes they just pay bills and don't read or research them. I tried to turn them in to medicare the first time as medicare says to report fraud. Well they didn't care, believe me, or understand. I plan to report this try at fraud again to my congressperson or representative, if they care either. This just angers me that big companies try to scam bill people. Pay attention folks, they gonna try for sure. Being bought out was not good move for local office in my opinion. read more

I'm into my 3rd week of the six weeks of physical therapy prescribed by my doctor and my chronic back pain has significantly improved. I've been working with Omaid and Stephanie, both of whom are very nice and very good at what they do. I was so surprised that even after my first visit, the exercises prescribed by Omaid enabled me to sleep normally after one year of not being able to because of the back pain. I can't sing enough praises for them because to feel like I have a path to freedom from pain is somewhat of a miracle, and the folks who can make that happen are some kind of heroes. I also have to add that all the staff who I've interacted with have been courteous and helpful. I saw that one of the reviews compared this practice to a factory because a different therapist was assigned for succeeding visits. I've only worked with 2, and they both remember my issues possibly because of good memory, or because of good note taking. I did preempt this issue by asking the front desk not to assign me to anyone else but the 2 that I've already been working with and they said they won't, so whether or not this happens in the future, I'd have to update this review. With regard to billing, I haven't received any bill yet, but I did see a summary of what my insurance would cover. For now, I'll go out of my way and make this observation: the staff seems to operate in good faith. I haven't met anyone who I think would be difficult to work with so I'm going to hope that billing would be straightforward and accurate. I was surprised when I received my bill that my dr. charged (over $500) for an outpatient visit as a new patient. I'm not a new patient. I called their billing dept. to remind them I'd been there before. The young lady told me it's OK to charge as a new patient if the previous visit was two years or more, and, yes, she assured me, it was legal. Really? So I checked my insurance co; it is NOT legal. Insurance said they sent it back to the Center for resubmission as a regular visit. I found this overcharge amazing and quite purposeful. The other underwhelming thing is I felt very marginalized by the dr., that he insinuated there was really nothing wrong with my vertebrae though an MRI a week earlier clearly revealed there was. And the late-afternoon visit seemed too fast (though an X-ray was fit in). I left really very bewidered. read more

I've had physical therapy in the past at several different places for the same issues I've been struggling with since I was active duty. Of course coming here I'm well versed in the routine and wasn't looking forward to it just trying to get it done and get healed. My therapy has been with Helen Loera, PT, DPT and she has made me feel so comfortable every step of the way. I have never met someone so personable that makes a strong connection with all their clients. She is extremely knowledgeable explaining everything to me down to why I may get pain in certain areas or even what may be the cause of certain pain based on behavior. Maybe it's just the right time in my life for me to understand what has been told to me all these years. She most certainly is someone I enjoy working with on a weekly basis and will only allow to treat me for any injury here on out. The practice itself is very nice not too small has a lot of other therapist. Most of them all seem to be or have been under the tutalege of Helen so you really can't go wrong. A combination between young and middle aged physical therapist with varied cultural backgrounds. Very clean environment and front desk receptionist are very helpful. The entrance setup is a little awkward being that it is off to the left side through another recetion area. Once you get over that initial hurdle it's smooth sailing. read more

Hard to get an appointment with a doctor even with a referral. You MUST be a firm advocate for your own health! Push for additional test. Glad I did! My injury was more than what the PA said it was. After the MRI, I'd have to wait 3 weeks to get the results and next steps in treatment from the Physician. Who would be comfortable with that when you're in pain? So, I booked with the PA, in order to get my test results. The staff discussed me right outside the door of the room I waited in - complaining! When the PA came in, she said she didn't know why the schedulers booked me with her because the Dr. is the one who goes over test results, but... since I was there... Geez! How about apologizing that you got my diagnosis wrong?! How about admitting that having the MRI was the right move?! I could continue sharing the multiple negative experiences, but I won't. SUMMARY: The office is not very friendly, warm or compassionate and borderline professional. I canceled my next appt and will find a BETTER provider! ADVICE: Patients can hear you discuss them when you are right outside the door! Be mindful of what you say. Learn how to talk to patients with more respect. Filling out unnecessary amounts of paperwork causes neck and spine pain. When directing a question about the paperwork to the staff, the staff was rude and unhelpful. This one star is for the CAO Physical Therapy (PT) center on 18th St., because not only reflecting poorly on a front desk staff, but also their management. Front desk staff can break or make a practice, and the front desk person here definitely breaks it because she is unbelievably disrespectful, condescending, quick to become defensive and combative at the most insignificant question asked by customers. I waited before writing this review to be fair and compare, because I contacted several PT facilities, and asked the same questions to make an informed decision, and the interactions went absolutely different. Here is what happened. I need PT for several issues and since this 18th St. PT facility is within CAO practice, I decided to call them first a few days ago. Front desk individual asked "what body part you want to treat first?" I was not expecting to have to choose considering that I am dealing with pain all over, so I asked to clarify what that meant and why I had to choose, to which her response was "because it is what it is." I explained that I did not appreciate the response and I was hoping to get more information to make an informed decision, and whether that was that facility's process or if there was another reason. She was hellbent answering that "that is what it is because that is how we do it," so I asked her to let me speak with someone else because I honestly did not understand at the time why I had to choose to treat one portion of the body when the rest is also in pain. Because at the time there was no-one available to give me a reasonable answer, we agreed in that someone else would call me. In the meantime, I called a few to compare, and after learning from this individual's response, I asked those other centers first, if I had to choose to treat one part of the body and why. These other front desk staff tactfully and respectfully explained the situation. I did not make appointments in those places because commuting was not great, and I was still hoping to get an appointment at 18th St. Then, a director from the 18th St. called and was more reasonable in her explanation. Basically, it comes down to back-and-forth between insurance and service provider, between insurance not wanting to pay as much, and some profitability because the more appointments, the more billing opportunities. I could not schedule the appointment then with this director when she called, because I was dealing with a family/home emergencies. I called today to finally schedule the appointment, and the individual who first answered my call a few days ago, asked what part of the body again, so I said I wasn't sure yet because in reality everything hurt so obviously my hope was to address the issue at once and asked her to explain how that would work. In response, she said "I don't know what your problem is but you have to choose." That did not go well and things quickly escalated. I told this individual, that whatever happened to her in morning, did not take it on me, because I just asked an honest question and she was clearly uncapable of performing her job in a humanizing and respectful manner. She put me on hold without saying anything, then came back on the line confirming an appointment, and insisted that "I had a problem". I asked her to refrain from talking to me in that manner, and asked for her name and she said "I don't have to give you my name but if you want to complaint, just come in and tell them that is me in the front desk," to which I responded that that was validating how inadequate she was to do her job and work with people. She burst out laughing telling me that I was "disrespectful" to which I responded that I had just asked an honest question seeking guidance to make an informed decision about my care, but for some reason she was ready to take it on me whatever she was dealing with, which was inappropriate. The call dropped, so I called and asked her to cancel my appointment and I hung up. I called a different PT location from within the same CAO system, I was asked the same questions, I asked and responded the same, and the interaction was respectful and informative. So different and very positive. If this 18th St. front desk staff feels comfortable talking to people so disrespectfully, not only reflects poorly on her, but management because there might be enabling conditions for this behavior be tolerated and condoned. In health care, customers and patients are not only dealing with their own ailments, but at times are managing other matters simultaneously and that causes stress and strain. If health care providers cannot handle the pressure with respect, manners and humanity, understanding the individual without being so sensitive and taking this personally such as the honest question I asked, then those individuals must not be interacting with patients and customers at all, and management must be accountable and hold them accountable, too. read more

Dr.cirillo was great with my daughters broken arm! The reason for the bad review is the billing department. They waited 7 months to send me a bill and when I call to ask about it the lady was very rude and unprofessional and made false accusations that I don't review my bills. Then with the lady from my insurance on the phone with me the billing manager was also rude and ended up hanging up on me. I had a good first encounter with a doc but, when my condition worsened and I went back, I was seen by other practitioners that did not seem to have my prior consult and also seemed to overlook information I was providing to them that could have informed them better on my condition. As a result they misdiagnosed me and then I was put into the 'factory' - getting a walking cast, scheduling therapy sessions etc etc.. My condition improved over the next day to the point where i needed no cast or therapy - but it left me thinking about motivation and incentives. Did they really want to understand me and my condition - or were they just looking to squeeze me and my insurance company out of as much money as possible? When I told the story to my primary care doctor he said "well - when the only tool you have is a hammer, everything starts looking like a nail". read more

After enduring years of progress pain and discomfort walking due to arthritis in the first joint of my big toe, I went to Dr. Neufeld to seek treatment. He recommended surgery to permanently fuse the joint. I can be more pleased with Dr. Neufeld's care and most of all the outcome. A little more than 2 month's past the date of the surgery, I am walking pain-free. Just amazing. read more

To make an appointment they asked me to fill out a form online. It took most of an hour if not more to complete. My appointment was today. The receptionist said she couldn't find my completed form. She handed me a tablet to fill it all out again. 15 minutes into filling out the online forms on the tablet, an assistant called me to an exam room and instructed me to leave the in-completed tablet with the receptionist. In the exam room the assistant proceeded to go through all the questions I had completed and submitted and the ones I was working on answering on the tablet. I asked the assistant why was she asking me the questions again. I was told "because I hadn't completed the forms ". To which I added that I just re-answered many of them on the tablet and had answered all of the online before and submitted them. She didn't care. I told her my time too was valuable like hers and this was overly inconvenient. I wanted to say rude too but didn't. She acted like I was too stupid to fill out the tablet of the forms which I did once before but they couldn't locate. I told her I was leaving and I'd find a different doctor and office to see. I'd had surgery performed by Dr Lutton who I hoped to see again today but somehow they couldn't see any history or record of it. That's poor medicine. You have my medical records yet you want me to recall details off the top of my head??? I left the doctors ' office and I have no plans to further see Dr Lutton, his associate and most especially his staff ever again! read more
