I recently ordered a specialty product that is somewhat hard to find. I live in the western U.S. so I was prepared for a somewhat delayed delivery. My order was placed on 7/11/26 and the items were delivered on 7/25/26. The packaging was excellent. The items could easily be broken or damaging in shipping, but good care prevented that with the excellent packaging. A packing slip was included in with the shipment. This is a niche market, so I don't expect big box store levels of staffing or an Amazon-like website or shipping. What they do have is an amazing selection, some of their own products, which are unique or cost-effective (hydrobats!). I live about half an hour away, but am not a fan of the drive. Their shipping prices for small orders are very good for this type of store. Yes, I will always go there in person if I need clay, but for a few pints of glaze and some tools, $6 for shipping is worth it. Around the holidays it can take a little longer, but generally I have my order in less than a week. I also like the pick up on store option they don't charge for it and you can order whatever is on you list, know it will be there when you arrive and you can still. Mail order a bit challenging. . One item was not in stock after I placed my order so I received a prompt refund with an email notifying me about the refund. When I received my package an item was missing. The glaze was only ten dollars but it took over a week to get that return. When I reached customer service Juno was very kind and helpful. read more

I've recently developed issues with the mechanics within the last month which I've called and left voicemail messages 7 times periodically and no one answers the phone or returns my calls. UPDATE: Admittedly I was a bit frustrated by not being able to reach someone by phone, but they were VERY responsive via email. All in all my order arrived in time for Christmas and everything was great. I'm sure it's a struggle to be a small business online around the holidays. Maybe they'll use this year as a lesson learned and hire one or two more staff to help with communication and the holiday rush in the future! I use to go often to that pla always very nice people. today I went to buy 2 blocks of clay, 50 pounds but the receptionist was unpleasant, she didn't have no interest to look for my information in the computer, told me that there was no information about me when I know there is the information, she was acting upset and I told her not to get upset about it. The other girl went to get the clay and left it on the floor, the didn't offer me help with 50 pounds of clay, it was very difficult for me to lift it up from the floor because I'm a very tiny 67 years old lady. Eh? They're okay, but slow. I've never been in person, just ordered online. In the past, orders have taken about 6 days to ship, so 4 or so business days. The last order though, was 11 days, so 7 business days. That's a long time for 1 item that wasn't listed as out of stock on the website. I really don't know how this shop has only 3 stars. I go here every other week to once a month to pick up a million things. Everyone there is a fountain of knowledge- all you have to do is ask. Most of the people that work there are ceramics students and know what they are talking about and are always willing to talk shop and experiments. No, it is not Amazon- it does not ship the same day but the website if clear on what is in and out of stock and if they do not have a product/ there is an inventory snag, you get an email within an hour IF ITS DURING BUSINESS HOURS. Drop shipping can take time but that is on the companies that are drop shipping, not the store. This is a small business and one of the extremely few that work in this niche. That means they have to take care of alot and alot of people. They are helpful, always willing to answer questions and have more stock them anyone else in a 3 hour raduis. read more

I used there online chat feature and the person told me she could not help me until placed the order, She gave me an address to contact a sales team member and that person never write me back, I wrote 3 times to her over 2 weeks and nothing. If I could give zero stars...Word to the wise: don't choose your vendor by price, esp if you are doing so online. I cannot even begin to explain just how bad my experience has been with this company, from start to finish. I'll summarize. Placed the order using their glitchy online system. Was notified my $1700 wheel would not arrive till around June 2. 3 days later, got a notice it was shipped and would arrive on Friday May 26, a full week early. Had a family illness to deal with (brother went to hospice) so could not be home to receive it. Tried 4 different times and pleaded with them to notify UPS that a signature was needed. No response except to tell me what I already knew because I told them first. I presumed I would deal with normal functioning adults; perhaps I was too generous. They are incompetent, they don't care, and they have too many competitors in this marketplace to be this bad. Give ANYONE else your business. These clowns do not deserve your money. This store has the worse customer service I have experienced in a while. My first order went well because it was made online and set for pick up. So there was nearly no contact with staff. However, the following orders have not gone as smoothly. When I went into the store for one order the staff seemed like they did not want to be there (no smiles, no help, and no motivation for problem solving). The cashier messed up a return (she returned the wrong item) and when I pointed it out she asked me to show her and with attitude said: "I'll wait!" I was appalled. I showed her on the receipt and when she realized I was right she became apologetic but it was too late for me. Her initial behavior was inappropriate AND I waited in the hot store for over 30 minutes for them to solve the issue. Before going to the store that day I reached out to the person named on their website but never received a response. When I reached someone by the same name on the online chat service I was bounced around to other employees and no one seemed to have the answer or a way to help. The phones will not connect you either. I gave them a second chance because everyone deserves one, right? On my next order I selected "ship to home" and in the notes section I asked for the order to be combined with another order that had not been processed yet. I explained that I needed the items as quickly as possible so it would be helpful if they were sent together. The staff ignored the note and sent the orders separately and slooooooowly. It would have been nice even if someone had even taken time to acknowledge the note and respond. So, here's my advice: if you know what you want and are ordering online (just basic supplies) the process may not be too painful. However, based on their poor customer service and staff demeanor, I would not buy big ticket items from them because if something goes wrong they will not help. I need to buy a wheel and a kiln soon and I am searching for an alternate store to do business with. The Ceramic Shop have a great selection BUT if you need responsiveness, helpfulness, and basic customer service you will be disappointed. I wish I could give zero stars. They sent me an email the same day I ordered saying my order was processed and gave me a tracking number. UPS said they haven't received it. I emailed and was told it wouldn't actually be processed for 5-7 business days. It is now past 7 business days and still hasn't shipped. I emailed and haven't gotten a response about my order. This company is terrible to work with and misleads customers. I would cancel my order and shop somewhere else but they would probably ship my order before they ever even open the email request for cancelation. So, I used to Throw at the Aardvark warehouse in Las Vegas, NV until I moved back to Philadelphia about 4 years ago. I MISS it sooooo much. This was almost like coming home for me. Except they don't have classes anymore, I asked. I had ordered a bunch of chemicals and a bat on-line and checked off that I'd be in to pick them up. I was THRILLED to find out that we had a place in Philly that was a supply store. Who knew? I had ordered from Laguna and Axner et al before. Lets just say kid in candy store when I walked in. I left with $50 more stuff I'm sure I REALLY needed. They didn't have my order ready yet. I had ordered over the weekend and it was only Tuesday. They hadn't gotten to the weekend orders yet. They had my order ready in maybe 5 minutes. Well before I'd gotten done poking around the store. They even told me that I might be able to get stuff fired there (I'm sure per fee) & that I possibly could rent studio space in the building. I was petting one of the L & L kilns while she was checking me out just in case it wanted to follow me home. And darn it, you know it just didn't. Rats. read more

I have been purchasing from the Ceramic shop for 3 years, I have never ever had and issue, that wasn't correct prompty. I have made some very large equipment purchasing and I regularly buy all my supplies from them. I live and hour and half away and it's well worth the drive there and back. The store is well stocked with ever possible thing you would need and then some more that you don't need but can't help buying! The staff from tech support to internal staff to management. The sales help are always pleasant and always helpful. I especially have to shout out to Mandy, the manager. She goes out of her way even loads my truck, she is truly and angel! . This place is like a candy land for ceramic artists. The Shop hours have changed a bit since the pandemic, so make sure you check online before you come into the store. The Staff is really knowledgeable and friendly and the prices are THE BEST in the industry. If you place an order online, it can take up to 7 days to ship, but your order will be correct, packed well, and sent with care. As long as you have realistic expectations, you will love this place. In late September, I bought a bottle of Wax Off Resist for my pottery purpose to help mask areas which I wanted to retain the underglazes. I bought it from their distributor in UK, after reading the instruction that it allows layering and peel off after complete drying of the wax. It was 17.90 pounds, but I purchased right away in hope that I can now perform more painting and patterning on my pottery bisque wares. So, after reading the bottle repeatedly to ensure I followed the instruction on the bottle, I proceeded to brush all my 16-18 pottery wares, covering them thinning just to save the material for longer usage (no instruction mention, applying thick or thin) Then I waited as stated-when dried it had darker orange, and it felt non-sticky, that I decided to peel the wax off. Never had I expected that the peeling procession took me many many hours to just peel! To make thing worst, it peeled little by little with more patches unable to come off! I almost cried just peeling 1 pot having said I had 16-18 of them waiting to peel!! I called up The Ceramic Shop in US, they were wordless and said they never encountered such issue! The receptionist said that the wax resist should be applied thick, let dry and then peel off. I said the instruction was not present in the bottle content! And the image was shown a thin layer of wax being peeled off! I said, pick up a bottle and read yourself, she seemed speechless, but said there had been few comments of the product and she will report back about the labelling in the future. I further told her that this product was demonstrated in Youtube and that someone had similar issues asking for their advise, but no respond from The Ceramic Shop! The lady then went to speak to the technical site team and came back telling me to reapply the wax over the existing layers on my pots and try peeling again. I did that the next day, it was disappointing! Although it was better to pinch and peel, the wax still stubbornly 'glued' to the surface and my last resort was to use needle tool to scrap, this meant all the underglazes which I had applied over the patterns had to all be scrapped away. It was a nightmare using a new product from a well established manufacturer but without clear detail instructions to the users-expecting us to know the application before hand? Pls see my pictures taken during the tedious process of removing the so called Easy Peel Wax resist...What worst is, this product must be removed before firing in the kiln-it will be a relief if I can just fire away the wax! It seems a great product and hope the manufacturer will conduct more tests on unglazes surfaces and label what can or cannot be done with this product. read more

I bought a kiln and kiln shelves at this shop. I spent $3408.00 . I fired twice at cone 6 and two of the six shelves cracked. After several unreplied emails, I called, only to be read their disclaimer policy that they will not be held responsible for cracked shelves. I am definitely not the only dissatisfied customer in this regard. READ THE FINE PRINT They are selling bad shelves and in the fine print they state they they cannot be held responsible. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. I just recently purchased a wheel from this shop online. I received a confirmation email that my order had been processed but no email with tracking information. I waited a couple days and heard nothing so I sent an email asking about it. Nothing. So I sent a couple more. And 4 phone calls. Both phone calls went through voicemail. I've tried to contact them. That I'm extremely frustrated to not have heard anything and that I no longer want the product for the sheer negligence and disregard they show for their customers. IT HAS BEEN OVER A MONTH OF TRYING TO CONTACT THEM. Lack of attentiveness that makes me doubt what kind of quality their products might have. If they can't ensure the quality of their customer service, I can't have the faith that they will in their product. They stated on their website and in the order that shipping would take about 2 weeks. The worst part about not being able to contact them is that I cant be sure they'll cancel my wheel order so I can buy one from somewhere else. They've practically stolen my money at this point.
