If owners Steve & Lynn aren't there to greet you, you will not be disappointed as their innkeeper, Sally, is graciousness & personality times ten!

OK... I CANNOT say enough praise about the Hartzell House Bed and Breakfast. This place is amazing!…read moreKitty and David are absolutely THE BEST hosts. My two sisters and I (and our significant others) came to celebrate a milestone birthday and were beyond impressed with this place. The ambiance is fantastic! The courtyard is beautiful as well as the patio in the back. The decorating that Kitty has done throughout the inside of the house is really beautiful. And as David says, "We want to concentrate on two things: The bed, and the breakfast." And that is exactly what they have done here. Each evening, David will come to offer your breakfast choices for the following morning. And it's not just bacon and eggs people... these are GOURMET offerings all made fresh on site using fresh ingredients. We had a choice of a peach cobbler oatmeal that had peaches from the tree in the backyard even and it was delicious! There was also one addition that just made my stay even more superb... a little dog named "Jack" and he is the most precious (smiling) doggie that I have ever seen! So stinkin' CUTE! Anyway... if you are ever in the area (checking out Frank Lloyd Wright's work) you should definitely give this place a shot. They are phenomenal! Thank you David and Kitty! I hope we get to come back again soon. :)

They were so accommodating and generous with their hospitality that we felt like we were friends! Complimentary tea, coffee, beer, and wine, homemade cookies (the bourbon cookies, wow!), and treats were just awesome! The warmth of the fireplaces and the Christmas decor just added to the ambiance of the inn along with the general decor as well. The inn itself has a long history as does the area around it (I had no idea that there were so many fort-lets from the French and Indian War and ties w/a younger George Washington there) that there's a lot to see and read up on. The owners have a lot of pride and passion for the inn and it shows in all the pictures they have of the restoration of the structure and the publications of the area and the property it's on and in the conversations we had! Truly a good place for those interested in talking/seeing history! BTW, the breakfast here is no joke with large portions and second helpings offered! They will accommodate any diet or dietary restrictions (I'm vegetarian, my wife isn't) and they made us the best meal we've ever had at a bnb or hotel!

We sat with our host,Scott, that evening after dinner and he shared the history of the house. We also blessed to learn he is a decorated veteran. One more block to the main shopping area. and two blocks from Lot 12 resThe only problem about the location is that it is very close to the main road through town and there was some noise from trucks breaking for the nearby stoplight. But I consider myself a very light sleeper, so the average person will probably not have issues with this. The place is very clean and comfortable. I stayed in the Rumsey Suite. The bathrooms are modern and have fantastic jetted tubs. The bed was very comfortable. My room had a white noise machine, ceiling fan, a large closet, free wi-fi, and even electric candles for a romantic touch. They offer a continental breakfast with a lot of options and a Keurig machine for coffee. There is a nice patio out back overlooking the brook. Parking is easy, free and right outside. The innkeeper was very nice and friendly - happy to chat and answer questions about the area - but did not impose on the guests. The decor is cleaner and simpler than most B&Bs, which was a huge draw for me! I don't like rooms full of creepy dolls and tons of old lace. I would recommend this location. The back room with the two twin beds probably has the best view.
