Carol and Battle thank y'all so much for providing such an opulent oasis for us (fairly last minute) through our travels. Both incredibly kind and interesting folks. They care very highly about their beautiful Victorian house, and even higher about their guests experiencing it. In our short stay we were truly made to feel like royalty, a nice change of pace after days in and out of truck stops and the like. We will most definitely be back! This is a wonderful home, and the hosts are delightful to talk with and they do an awesome job of hosting and serving breakfast. My husband took me here for my birthday - what a treat! If you're seeking a rich experience over a quick night away, book with the Chancellor's House. They're in town, so you can walk to things, but it's a peaceful street, and our room was quiet. I couldn't get over the beautiful detail in every room. This was the 1950s home of the chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) and he added a lot to it back then. The house has been lovingly and authentically restored again - the owners have done a magnificent job and they know lots of stories! Out the back gate you'll find access to Bedford's historic cemetery - most graves date to the 1700s. If you like history, plan to spend some time here! Regarding the service and amenities, they are top-notch! Our bedding and towels were luxurious, the furniture divine, and breakfast was an elegant affair. We had our own separate hallway, so we felt somewhat secluded, which was nice. We met two sweet ladies at breakfast and had an intelligent conversation. Bottom line: You never know what you're going to get with an independent inn, but I can tell you that we had a tremendous time and would recommend the Chancellor's House to anyone who appreciates a fine, elevated experience.x read more

The Chancelor's House is one of the most charming, warm and welcoming B&B's you will ever find! We stopped in Bedford to grab coffee (at HeBrew's - another great find!) and were so charmed we decided to stay. We happened to meet the innkeeper who was happy to show us the one available room he had open. We're not typcially B&B'ers but the room was light-filled and clean so we decided to stay. And we are happy we did. Innkeepers Steve & Lynn are lovely, as is their home. They live on site so all of your needs are met, including great recommendations on what to do and see while visiting Bedford. The house is literally 3 blocks from the the many fun shops and restaurants in Bedford, so park in the driveway and walk everywhere. In the evenings Steve & Lynn offer pre-dinner wine and cheese, if you care to partake, and the following morning, meet the other guests over a gourmet breakfast served in the elegant dining room (complete with cloth napkins, china and stemware -- we enjoyed fresh fruit with creme fraiche, vegetable & cheese fritata, roasted potatoes, a variety of toasted breads, good coffee, orange juice and water). If you are new to the B&B experience, this is a wonderful place to start...though you might never find another B&B as nice as the Chancellor's House. Highly recommended. read more

My husband and I have stayed with Lynn and Steve FIVE times. We love it there ! We can't wait to return. It's the best B&B we've ever stayed at. All three rooms are fabulous! The hospitality is great! Breakfast is superb. We think of it as visiting friends. We have taken both our parents there - who can't wait to return. One of the nicest B&B's we've been to. The innkeepers meticulously renovated the house in early 2000's and did a fantastic job. Our room was spacious (the Dogwood room) and even had a twin bed for our 13 yo. Breakfast was fantastic and they were quick to recommend local attractions and provide local historical information. Found this place on-line and picked it out because it looked/sounded like what you would expect for a B&B. Turned out to be a terrific choice...great on all dimensions! The house looked the part of an "old money" brick house...wonderful appointments inside and the common rooms and bedrooms were great, very classic and each BR had an updated bath. Grounds were wonderfully done + there was a great porch for reading, sitting, or chatting (the wine and cheese provided by the hosts was a nice touch). Breakfast was a treat with frittatas and all the trimmings...skillfully prepared by the hostess. The owners/hosts were very cordial and extremely knowledgeable about the town (downtown is a short walk) and the history of the house. At a price that seemed incredibly reasonable (especially relative to the prices at Bedford Springs), the whole experience easily gets 5 stars. We're trying to figure out how to route future trips that go through the area..really worth going out of your way for! read more
