My family loves this place! I swear we can't come in here without spending less than $100, solely because of all that they offer, not because of high prices. We feel their prices are actually quite reasonable for what you're getting. Love their cheese selection, of course. Wide variety of choices and flavors and then they also have seasonal cheeses which help you switch flavors up. They have everything you could need for a charcuterie board or gift for someone. Everyone who works there is super friendly and those behind the cheese counter are knowledgeable on the cheeses as well as what might go good with them. Too much cheese isn't unhealthy right? Good. The Cheese Lady has your unlimited supply of cheese with many different flavors for great prices! We've come here a few times to get cheese for Christmas and New Years Eve parties, or simply just to have it in the house for cheese and crackers. Each one we've had has been exceptionally delicious. This location in particular has a very "homey" feel when you walk in too. It's been super busy many of the times that we've been here to pick up cheese, so you get a few minutes to look around at the décor inside. And then as you get closer, the longer wait times help you decide on what cheese you want and maybe get a sample or two along the way if you haven't placed your order in advance. Our favorites are the Appenzeller (herbal brine with wine or cider flavor and a nutty/fruity flavor), the Asiago Fresco (a smooth, buttery cheese with a hint of fruitinesss), BellaVitano Espresso (coffee flavor pretty much), Big Russ Premium Beer Cheese (great for dipping, nice sharp cheddar flavor), Havarti (great for slider sandwiches), Irish cheddar (basic kind of cheese but strong flavor), Raspberry Ale BellaVitano (tarty cheese, fruity of course), and the ALL TIME favorite which I don't see on their menu anymore, hopefully it comes back, is the Merlot cheese (which is amazing like all of their other cheeses but a hint of wine in it). Excellent shop!!! The cheese mongers are so knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They helped me choose the perfect blue cheese for my friends! They also recommended cracker selection to compliment the cheeses I chose. I was able to build a beautiful charcuterie board for Thanksgiving. First of all, I admit that I browse Yelp much more than I should, but...the food!! During one of those casual browsing sessions, one of my fellow Yelpers, who shall remain nameless (not a privacy issue, I just forgot who it was), had checked in here, and, being always on the alert about cheese, I noticed it! Being originally from Wisconsin where cheese oozes through our veins AND having worked for several years at an Italian cheese factory while in high school, I know a few things about cheese. So, of course, upon learning that there was someone called The Cheese Lady nearby (+1 star) I had to check it out. Upon entering the place, it felt a bit like being in someone's house except for all of the cheese and companion products (+1 star). They have a huge variety of cheese in stock (+1 star) and are more than happy to have you sample them to find something you like before you buy (+1 star)! If you have a cheese you like but want to try something new, they can suggest a similar but slightly different cheese to try (+1 star) and they are very good at it, as long as you are honest about what you like and don't like. I tried to stump them with a couple of tricky questions. I was looking for a Raclette from the Leelenau Cheese Factory near Traverse City. It was noted in an article for being one of only two cheeses from the USA on a list of the 66 best cheeses in the world! They don't carry it (-1 star) but she personally knows about the people who own the Leelenau factory (+1 star), said she knew that they cannot produce enough Raclette to make it widely available (+1 star), but she would check into getting a wheel from them (+1 star). Then they took down my name and phone number to call me if they can get some of the Leelenau Raclette (+1 star). We tried a couple of cheeses that are similar to a Jarlsberg Swiss and chose two, a Madrigal Swiss (creamy nutty flavor) and a Meadowkass from Holland (creamy and seasonally made) that we liked and chose to buy (+1 star). I asked about the types of brick cheese that they carry and what they have from Wisconsin. One of the companies they buy from is Sartori in Plymouth, WI (+1 star). The Italian cheese factory in Wisconsin where I worked was bought out years ago and I mentioned the current company name, Grande, but they hadn't heard of it (-1 star). The Cheese Lady is located close enough for me to visit regularly; moving in really isn't practical. We had a great experience and met some very pleasant, knowledgeable cheesenistas (you know, like baristas for coffee) or Maître Fromage if you have no sense of humor! All things considered, when I add it all up, I would give 9 stars, so far! Unfortunately, the current Yelp rating system limits me to giving 5 stars maximum. If you are happy with your 8-pound log of Colby that you picked up for $3/lb directly from the Cheese factory on your last trip to Wisconsin, for example, The Cheese Lady may not be right for you. But if you want to explore the bigger world of cheese, The Cheese Lady could become your second home! read more

I have received nothing but the absolute best guidance in pairing cheeses with wines and meals, as well as the perfect accoutrements like spreads and crackers and sweets. The virtual classes offered during the pandemic were a bright spot in a very dark time for me. Getting to explore new cheeses and wines, learning with others virtually from the comfort and safety of my own home, was such a great experience. The safety measures taken by the store are also appreciated; from mask restrictions and limited capacity inside the store, to the ability to pick up my order (telephone or online) from a cooler on the porch. And, I found the prices to be more than competitive; certainly lower than, say, Whole Foods. I've squandered a lot of cheese money in my time, but no more. I came to Olive &Vinegar on Valentine's Day Eve. The owner had paired with The Cheese Ladies shop in presenting pairings of cheese, balsamic vinegars, and wines from Chantal wineries in the Leelanau peninsular. There were 7 pairings of cheeses introduced by the fun Cheese a Ladies who were exceedingly knowledgeable and engaging. These were paired by Mike, the equally knowledgeable olive oil and balsamic conniseur, and offered with bread for dipping along with small glasses of varietal wines appropriate to the cheeses, balsamics, and olive oils! This was sooooo much fun, I called Mike to try to arrange a similar event and could provide eight new guests. I also stopped at the Cheese Ladies and took a variety of their fabulous offerings to my friends for a St Patrick's party. Again my friends were charmed and I also bought any number of gift items for my sisters birthday. What a delightful night we spent again tasting the likes of imported Gruyere and Gouda and apricot balsamic, pear cinnamon balsamic, and Champagne Chardonnay bottled with a splash of Malbac! BOTH businesses offer drop in tasting samples and the finest products of their like with great business owners to learn from!!! read more

This shop is amazing. It seems like everyone I know has been here (until today!) but me! Super friendly, professional and extremely knowledgeable. Once I told them what/who/menu, etc. we decided 3 cheeses would be adequate. The tasting consisted of 3 samples from a soft cheese, cheddar and a gouda. I decided on a mushroom brie, horseradish cheddar and a mild cheese from Holland that is made only once a year in the Spring when the cows come in from their first visit out to pasture after the winter! A wonderful assortment of crackers, jams, nuts, etc. They provide the cheeses for some of the restaurants in Rochester, including The Royal Park Hotel. This is such a gem. All the people there love cheese and seem to love their jobs. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. I have been here several times now and have not been let down yet. The Potato Chip Goat Gouda is amazing. And make sure you try to Young Manchego, with pear jam, and a marcona almond. Will NEVER go there again. Stopped in during the Arts and Apples festival and inquired about Gouda cheese. I was promptly verbally slapped for mispronouncing the cheese as 'Gooda' and not as 'Gowda'. I was informed, in a rather obnoxious, condescending way, that only 'uneducated Americans' refer to the cheese as 'Gooda'.
