We chose The Children's Place Montessori because of the wonderful environment, the small class size, the affordability, and most of all the total commitment to true Montessori learning, not just having a lot of pretty wooden furniture and saying you're a Montessori school. Children are allowed to explore and go at their own pace. Sometimes that means they go quickly through a subject (though still with a thorough understanding) and sometimes more slowly as time and interest provide. That opportunity makes a huge difference and takes a lot of care and attention in a classroom full of kids. We really did not want computers in the classroom when our son was in kindergarten and are even more glad they're not a part of his early elementary education. Homeschooling was not in the cards for our family, but I really feel like the approach to learning here is the next best thing for our family. This is not a business that also happens to be a school. It's first and foremost a dedicated place of guidance that serves the whole child. I toured many preschools around Torrance and Gardena, but this was only place where I felt peace knowing that she was 100% cared and loved for. They love on your child like their own, and communication is so fast and easy because Ms.Julie and Pastor Danny cares about the parents as much as the children. The teachers help the children discover their interests and assist them to grow on their own pace. My child is now independent and confident in learning. She has become a resilient student and is definitely TK ready! Ms.Julie and Pastor Danny carefully and prayerfully crafts their classroom setting and the chemistry between the students. Your child will gain not only school skills but everything outside of school that is important such as interpersonal skills, independence, and emotion and motor control. The school is also very very reasonably priced considering the teacher-to-students ratio and the Montessori teaching you receive from the lovely and experienced teachers. When we moved out of the area so that my son started kindergarten, that is when we unenrolled. I really like the balance between indoor/outdoor time and also between structured/open play. There is a lot of free open play built into the day's schedule which I like because the kids get to interact with each and build friendships. At the same time, there is also structure and routine. A typical day is as follows (this is when my children were enrolled so maybe this has changed a bit, you'll have to check with the school): before 9 am is open play. Lots of Montessori style toys and activities for kids to choose from. 9-11 am is academics with children being grouped by age. Their curriculum is age appropriate for that group. 11-1 pm is lunch and open play outside. The outside has plenty of space plus a playground plus flowers/plants and other items to play with. 1-2:30 pm is nap time for those who still nap. Nap is a separate building in the back away from the kids that no longer sleep so the kids can rest undisturbed. If they no longer nap, then there is an art/craft activity, spanish class, music class and/or another learning activity for those kids. 2:30-3:30 pm is open play and a snack break. I think they also offer extended care 3:30 pm - ? but I didn't have the kids in extended care, so I am not sure about the experience. I would imagine there is more open indoor/outdoor play. The teachers there have been there for many years. They are very sweet and caring but also have rules and safety expectations. They are attentive and they tune into what they see throughout the day. They will share important information or behaviors that they pick up on from your child and they will communicate. I also would go to them for advice if I was struggling with language or behaviors at home and they often would have very helpful tips to help me work on that and it often worked. This place is a very clean!! The kids are constantly washing their hands from the first moment they walk in the door and throughout the day. This place will be an amazing environment for your children. They will make strong friendships and also will be ready for elementary school. It is run by very great teachers, and it is affordable compared to all the other Montessori type schools in the area. I know because i looked into all of them and researched and compared. I was surprised that there are not a larger or students enrolled, but i think the reason is that Torrance Montessori is not an app-based school and/or a social media school. This school functions with good old fashion phone calls/and or speaking in person. My children both had a great experience here and they still have playdates with friends that they met here. I am glad I found this school when I did.

That's when I decided to look for a new school. As soon as we found Torrance Montessori, everything changed. The dropoff tears stopped, which felt like such a relief. It truly felt like we had found the right place for her. When my son turned two, we enrolled him as well. While the school follows a Montessori approach, it also has a strong academic focus, which I've really appreciated. They offer both Spanish and Mandarin, and there's even a music class on Fridays. My daughter felt confident and well prepared going into Kindergarten, and my son, who is now four, can already write his name and count to 100. I'll admit, I don't spend much time doing extra teaching at home, so it's been impressive to see how much they've learned at school. The environment is safe, clean, and nurturing. Many of the teachers have been there for years, and it shows in how much they genuinely care about the students. If you're considering it, I'd definitely recommend taking a tour and seeing it for yourself. One last thing I want to add is that tuition was very reasonable and the lowest compared to other preschools. The hours are from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm with extended hours after.

Every day he gets sent home with a summary of his day including how much he ate and slept, and any additional information about his day. The owner, director, and teachers are communicative, responsive, and compassionate. I especially appreciate how they accommodate us for an early dropoff due to my work schedule. My son has brought home fun art and craft projects and he really seems to enjoy his time there. They schedule fun activities for the summer and holidays. There is ample space for children to play outside with plenty of shade and the inside is clean and organized. It is reasonably priced too. When she first started, she spoke virtually no English at all. English is her second language, and we are native Russian speakers, so naturally, we had so many worries in the beginning. How would she communicate? How would she understand the teachers? Would she feel comfortable and safe in a place where she couldn't yet speak the language? From literally the very first day, the staff and teachers made the entire transition feel so much easier than we ever expected. We were absolutely blown away by how caring, patient, flexible, and supportive everyone was. Communication was always easy, every concern was taken seriously, and we always felt that we could talk to the teachers and work things out together. That alone meant so much to us as parents. And then we watched our daughter completely blossom. She started picking up English incredibly quickly -- first words, then phrases, then conversations -- and before we knew it, she was communicating confidently and naturally. Watching that transformation has been incredible. She is leaving this school for K with such a strong foundation, not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well. One of the most beautiful things this school gave her was a genuine love for creativity. There were constantly crafts, art projects, activities, little creations coming home -- sometimes it felt like every single day she had made something new. :) The teachers put so much thought and creativity into what the kids were doing each week. Our daughter absolutely fell in love with making things with her hands, drawing, painting, cutting, gluing, creating -- and that love of art and crafts has become such a big part of who she is! There were also so many little milestones that felt huge to us. When she started, she wasn't potty trained yet, which was another thing we were worried about. And somehow, within literally a day or two of starting school, she began using the potty on her own. We could barely believe it. It felt like a miracle at the time! The confidence and independence she developed here have been incredible to watch. But more than anything, she was HAPPY here She loved her teachers, she loved her friends, and she genuinely felt at home at school. She was so loved and cared for, and as parents, you can feel when your child feels completely safe somewhere. There were honestly days when she didn't even want to leave and go home -- which probably says more about this place than anything we could write in a review. Now we are leaving for Kindergarten with a child who speaks English, is independent, potty trained, creative, confident, curious, and genuinely excited about learning. When we think back to the little three-year-old who first walked through these doors without speaking English, the difference is almost unbelievable. We are leaving with such full hearts and, honestly, almost with tears in our eyes. This school has been such an important part of our daughter's childhood and development, and we will always remember Ms. Sirene and Ms. Dimuthu and all the incredible staff who helped her become the little person she is today. Mariel was very thorough in explaining to us the daily routine for the babies and all the things she does to keep them safe. The tuition price is very fair especially for the flexibility of the time and dates that our daughter attends and that was something that was very hard to find at other preschools/daycares. We feel very good about sending our daughter here, knowing that she is being cared for with love and thoughtfulness. Mariel's prior background in teaching is also a huge plus!
