I stopped by there a couple weeks ago on my only day off to see if they could accommodate me. I needed a fade badly. When I walked in the shop the male barber who I was recommended to go to was cutting someones hair already but his female coworker was just sitting there watching the movie that was on the tv. I asked if they could possibly fit me in that morning and seeing that the girl barber wasn't doing anything was hopeful. However, she was extremely rude and told me that she had someone coming in for an appt in 20 minutes and she didn't have time to get me in! She wasn't doing anything but sitting on her a** watching a movie and all I wanted was a fade but she wouldn't take the time to stop watching her movie to help me. The male barber stopped what he was doing to see if there was a slot he could get me in and offered me a later cut with him. Being that I was already put off by this rude girls attitude I declined and decided to go somewhere else. As someone who works with the public if you have time to sit there and watch tv and don't have an appt for 20 min you surely have time to give a man a fade. They don't take that long! Her attitude was unacceptable and if I were the owner I wouldn't want people in my establishment who don't want to take care of potential clients. I work with several other men and many of them go to this shop and see the owner, the male barber, who they all say is fantastic. I can see why none of them go to the girl. She's lazy and rude and puts a bad rep for this shop. After reading other reviews on this page I can see why this isnt a 5 star establishment and I am mind blown that it won best of Durango 2 years in a row with this hateful woman working there. I will most likely not be back. I will also be sure to tell my friends to steer clear of her if they so chose to go there and to make sure they see the male. This place was nice. I went in there with a friend few weeks ago while he got his hair cut by the owner, Gilbert. The owners wife was working the front desk and she was extremely friendly to both people walking in and people on the phone. The female barber there was not so friendly. She almost seemed annoyed the entire time I was there and she went in and out several times. The vibe of the shop reminded me of an old school barbershop with the decorations and movie in the background. I really liked the feel of the shop and how personable the owner was. He was funny and knew exactly how to cut my friends hair. We've been to other barbershops in Durango and nobody can get it right. I also loved the family feel in there. The owner was very loving towards his wife and even stole a kiss or two which I thought was sweet. It's no wonder why this shop had a Best of Durango award on their wall. You feel welcomed here. My only critism would be to get staff that acts like they want to be there. I know we will definitely be going back. We've already told several of our friends about it. read more

I took my son here to get his hair cut. They took Covid-19 precautions very seriously which was nice to see in this town. The barbershop in itself was laid back. The pool table in it was a bit awkward and doesn't fit in the space. I loved that it seemed like a family business (so many are closing down with the pandemic) as the two barbers in there seemed smitten with each other. They couldn't keep their eyes off one another. However, if you work with your spouse show some professionalism. Especially when a young kid is in there. The girl couldn't keep herself focused on my sons cut because she was too busy eyeballing the male barber and you could tell he was just checking her out the entire time. Puppy love is cute but save it for home. I was not impressed with the hair cut. We are still looking for the right place in this town to get a decent hair cut. read more

The Chill Spot is hands down the best place in Durango to go to for a haircut. Gilbert will take care of whatever you are wanting. He's professional, courteous and listens to his customers. My nephews and my niece all love going to him. I haven't met one person who isn't happy with their haircut after they have gone to the Chill Spot. Not only is the staff great, the place is clean and a very relaxing environment. I wouldn't recommend any other place to go if you want that perfect haircut. Their online booking tool is awesome and very user friendly. It's definitely a step above the rest! read more

When I move to a new town the first thing I do is find a barber that I can trust. Sometime this take a few haircuts from different people sometimes you get lucky and find the right fit the first time. Thankfully when I moved to durango I found Gilbert he's a rad dude and an amazing barber, I do my best to recommend him and the shop to everyone I know. The best fade I've ever received. The owner new exactly how to cut it. He was knowledgeable about hair and I could tell he cared about his craft. His Scarface wall is epic! The huge godfather picture he had is the dopest thing I've ever seen. The only bad experience I had was his female stylist. She was rude to him and snappy anytime he said anything to her. He was friendly and professional and did an amazing job on my son's hair. His shop was welcoming and comfortable. My son loved that he had a large TV and had the movie Avengers on. This place is awesome! Didn't have an appointment, walked in and immediately sat down in a chair. Had great conversation and got a great cut. Small shop, only two chairs, with a very cozy, inviting vibe. Gilbert is a Durango local of 30+ years and has tons of local knowledge. They do a great job when trimming/shaving off my beard! Very thorough and makes sure everything is taken off!
