I scheduled a men's haircut with Claire at Oak Brush for 2:30 PM and arrived 5 minutes early. Unfortunately, I ended up waiting nearly an hour because she was still with her previous client the entire time. What made the situation more frustrating was that there appeared to be other stylists available during my appointment window, while my haircut itself typically takes less than 45 minutes. I understand that delays can happen from time to time, and I try to be understanding when they do. However, when a business enforces a strict cancellation policy for its clients, it's reasonable to expect appointments to be honored within a reasonable timeframe. This was my 2nd rough experience at Oak Brush salon. This time, my 14 year old daughter left in tears because she hated her haircut. But beyond that, the stylist actually scolded me! I was asking about products and touching my daughters hair when she interrupted me and said, "Stop touching her hair like that!" and something like, "you can do that when you get home." As a person that spends a lot of time in salons in Durango, I was shocked, embarrassed, and felt unwelcome. For context, I could tell my daughter was upset, so I went over to the chair when the haircut was finished to check in after she told my daughter to run her fingers through her hair. Anyway, it was a huge bummer and we will not be going back there. It seems that a lot of people have good experiences there, but our stylist needs some lessons in costumer care. read more

Beyond friendly, nice, and the salon is beautifully decorated with plants, great lighting, and LUXERY chairs. They have massage chairs when you get your hair washed, how relaxing! I had just got home from a month long fire assignment in Idaho and I was ready for a trim. I was elated Jenna was able to get me right away! As soon as you walk in you feel at home. This Salon has a great pulse to it and it is all things Durango! Since I am growing my hair out, the last thing you is for the stylist to take to much off. Always a process to find a new barber that will take time to learn what you want and work to make sure you are satisfied. Ben took time to understand what I wanted and we worked through several heights to get the flat top right. Prices are reasonable and I will continue to come back so Ben can get more comfortable with my head, hair and how I want it cut. Online reservations is a great feature - allows me to look at the schedule for the day and see if I can work it in. This isn't a true 'barber shop' that you can just stop in and wait in line so I would recommend looking online at availability before heading to the shop - especially if you live out a ways. If you are tired of the only other barber shop in town and want a barber who will cut your hair the way you want - then give Ben a chance. read more

It was recommended to me to go to Reylynns to get a haircut. I booked it online with Riley. She gave me the best haircut. I've been trying to get the perfect look for a while and she did it. While there I was treated to a hand massage. You really feel pampered. I went back two weeks later to get a touch up as I don't live here and am leaving town tomorrow. This is the only barber shop in Durango that gives me a consistent cut. Ben always gives me sharp looking cut and shave! By the way the only place in town to get a shave, and he is good. Needed a haircut while in Durango, saw the great reviews, and gave this place a try. Gilbert had me in his chair in seconds not minutes. The man is good at what he does, you can just feel it. Halfway through the haircut I asked for a barber shave, something I've never done in all these years. It was awesome. The haircut was quick and really good. Partway through they give you a complimentary hand massage by a cute little gal from Telluride. The shave was great fun. You go through several different layers of minty toners and hot hot towel soaks. Pretty indulgent. Again, Gilbert works fast. The straight razor shave was different than any shave I've ever had. My skin loved it. Then they shampoo out all those little hairs that most barbers leave down your neck, comb you up and send you on your way. Quick, enjoyable, and efficient. And it's the best haircut I've ever had. read more

Best Haircut I've had in years. Just not what I asked for. I don't know if other people experience this but it seems like any time I've gone for a professional haircut and asked to keep it long and just trim it up, I come out with what looks to me like a straight "boys haircut". It's been years since I've paid for a haircut. I avoided a place like Sport Clips thinking they are trained to give a certain haircut no matter what you ask for. After having a good conversation with Gabriel he said "Oh, I can definitely keep it long and just take some of the bulk out of it here (pointing to the sides)." As I watched in the beginning, he was doing just that. Imagine my surprise, after a nice hand massage and some pleasant conversation about how they like to pamper their customers and give the client what they want, when I looked in the mirror to find my hair every bit as short as when I do it myself with clippers. Hmm. Weird. I won't be going back and will just stick to doing it myself, although I have never gotten it even close to as even and well cut as he made it. read more

I have since met with both Kelly and Ben and am satisfied they have taken the best possible steps to assure this will not happen again. There was no refund requested nor was any other type of compensation made. Kelly and Ben appeared to me as a young couple doing their very best to get a new business started right and encountered a bump in the path and were very sincere in acknowledging their employee's performance was not acceptable. I had let my hair and beard get out of control while spending time at our winter home in Durango, and desperately needed a trim. I decided to go with The Works, which includes a scissor cut, shampoo (with awesome massaging chair), a straight razor shave and line-up, moisturizing hand massage, and eyebrow trim. I booked an appointment online with Gilbert, and he was waiting for me when I arrived. I was offered coffee or tea at the door (It was pretty cold out.) Gilbert was extremely friendly, and chatted with me the whole time. I was very satisfied with my haircut and my shave, and although it cost a little more than the barbershop downtown, these guys know what they're doing and all the little things they do to make your experience better add up. I will definitely return next time I am in town and need a haircut, and highly recommend ReyLynn's Barber Lounge to any gentlemen in Durango who want a legit barbershop experience. read more

This place usually does great. However, when I went in for another cut, the stylist didn't even ask me what I wanted, she just began cutting. I ended up with a haircut that made me look like a middle-aged mom. If you really need to sit down with someone and discuss what you want, do not go to this place. There are few options for guys here in Durango. Definitely fewer options when needing to get a haircut during your lunch hour. I made an appointment during my lunch hour using the appointment function right here on their Yelp page. Gilbert did a great job taking care of me. The post-cut shampoo is the bomb-diggety. I went back to work without the itch of a fresh cut. The location is easy access, and the free parking is a huge plus but could be hard to come by during the lunch rush at CJ's Diner next door. No biggie.... You could always park for free on 9th Ave and take the short walk if the lot is full. That is still far easier than parking downtown, plugging a meter, etc. I've been going to "the other guys" downtown, but no more. I have a new wig-buster, and Gilbert has a new regular. I am looking forward to "next time" when I might partake in more of the services they offer. If you, like me, are one of the guys who goes downtown for a haircut, I highly recommend you give Gilbert a try. You will pay just a bit more, but it's worth it. read more
