Horrifying, horrifying, HORRIFYING. CBN sent me a small booklet about the global ongoing effort to boycott Israel in response to Israel's unceasing efforts to colonize Palestinian lands. CBN opposes the boycott. To elaborate, certain areas inhabited by the Palestinians are under military occupation by Israel, and the lands have been occupied in that manner for half a century. The lands were long ago mandated by the United Nations to be a homeland for the Palestinian people. While Israel builds subdivisions on the real estate, it brutally subjugates the Palestinians who are resisting this theft. To push in the opposite direction, the global "BDS Movement" (The Boycott, Divest, and Sanction Movement) demands that Israel be boycotted until the colonization stops and Arabs under Israeli rule are treated as Jewish Israelis' equals. CBN states that in the eyes of any right-thinking Christian, no theft of Palestinian lands is occurring. CBN further states that no Arab under Israeli rule is a second class citizen. Do some research, and talk to any Palestinian. CBN lies. According to CBN, and the booklet sent to me, Israel has a "divine and God-given" right to confiscate the lands, and the Arabs under Israeli rule are treated just fine. The booklet flatly states that anyone advocating otherwise is the equivalent of a Nazi, and the boycott is actually a tactic derived from the Nazis. According to CBN, the Jews, as God's chosen people, cannot be condemned in any manner for their treatment of the Palestinians, and any perceived mistreatment is pretty much imaginary. WOW. The Palestinians living in Israel hold a distinctly inferior status there. To deny this is to deny what is self-evident (and, yes, I've visited there). To resist the confiscation of their lands, the Palestinians throw rocks. The Israelis respond by using real bullets. The Israelis also violently respond by using four billion dollars of aid and high tech weaponry sent annually by the U.S. to Israel. Four billion dollars. Yearly. What useful tools and sock puppets CBN stooges must be, for the people committing these crimes against Palestinians. Millions of Palestinians have formed a diaspora outside of Israel, many living in refugee camps. And not only does CBN advocate all of this misery, they recommend that Christians help fund it with their political and financial support! I do not recall reading any directions in the Bible for the Jews to return to Israel and to violently oppress and expel the Arabs who have dwelled there during the Jews' two thousand year absence from their ancestral lands. I don't see any commands that slaughter and oppression and theft become something else, because you have been designated as a member of God's "chosen people." CBN also repeatedly manipulates scripture and history to state its case. You've encountered this before -- they have a rebuttal for every conceivable criticism. Those who oppose injustices perpetrated by Israel are described as being "cursed." Yet countless Jews both inside and outside of Israel oppose Israel's mistreatment of the Palestinians. Are those Jews both chosen and cursed? Nonsense. CBN's booklet quotes Isaiah 5: 20: "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness." Perhaps CBN should do some further research until it comes across 2 Corinthians 11: 14: "Even Satan himself presents himself as being an angel of the Light." read more

I am of the firm conviction that anyone who believes that a devastating natural disaster that kills thousands of already disadvantaged people is God's way letting us know he's pissed... well, that's the kind of person that probably shouldn't be on mass-market TV, but instead should be standing on an overturned fruit crate under a bridge covered in dirt and screaming at passers by to "repent." Yet for some reason, CBN continues to air the 700 club, as it has every morning since 1966*, with Pat Robertson as lead sociopath (err, I mean Anchor). For that, my goodly friends... for that un-deniably non-christian ethos, the CBN earns a lowly 1 star. Pat, maybe this one star is god's subtle way of telling you that you're full of shit. The 700 Club - and CBN - an ample subject for my 700th review. I've seen snippets, segments, and bits and pieces of CBN broadcasting for years... really throughout my life. In fact, it reaches 95%* of US television markets! It's always been a very bewildering phenomena to me that this many people watch the CBN. I guess Mao was right - religion is truly the opiate of the masses. Broadcasting from its ultra-luxe environs in sunny Virginia Beach, VA, the CBN spreads it's mixed (and often contradictory) message of love, hate, and good old fashioned judgment 24-hours per day on several channels including En Español! In fact, from the looks of the photo on the website, I'd say those gilded CBN offices would rival even a Billy Graham-style TBN studio! Where'd all that cash come from, anyway? Oh right, Jesus advocated an opulent lifestyle. I forgot. ...but I digress. One thing I can say, and this is for sure: nothing hurt me more on Sunday mornings as a kid than when my cartoons would get interrupted by some old angry white men thanking god for what they perceived as him punishing the heathens in between telling us how to lead our lives and who to pray for. As I've grown over the years, I've occasionally tuned in to witness the sideshow of wonders and blunders that take place on the 700 Club each and every morning. It would be a thoroughly entertaining comedy of errors were it not so frustrating and maddening. This is not a knock on Christianity. Oh no. It's merely a condemnation of the CBN's misguided and skewed version of it that they broadcast every day. Overall, I find the programming from CBN to be contrived at best, and dangerous at worst. If there is anything single-handedly dumbing down huge swaths of the American populace (at least outside of reality television), it would absolutely have to be the CBN programming lineup. While I have tried to accept these shows at face value, it's simply too preposterous for me to even begin to take seriously. It's so obvious that this is beyond even entertainment. It's sheer subterfuge for ulterior motives, none of which seem to jive with the actual tenets of any honest religion, especially Christianity. So for failing to broadcast anything worth watching ever, and for going above and beyond the call of duty by broadcasting actual hate and vitriol, I give: One. Golden. Star. These are not good God fearing people. To see the true men and women of God you have to go back to the foundation of the Christian Church. You are better going to your local church than asking these men and women for prayer or any other Christian service. Go back to your local churches who built the Christian faith like the Catholics or the Methodists or the Baptists. These people are wolves in sheep's clothing them and their affiliates.
