As I have lived in CA, MI, and my home state of FL, I attended several different churches: Calvary Chapel, East Coast Church, East Coast Christian Center, Viera Lutheran, and currently Church at Viera. I typically enjoy a small church because they feel more like a family, but really enjoy contemporary Christian music, small groups, and involved children's ministry. I've found, it can be more difficult to become involved in some churches and feel out of place or pressured to give, but that is not the case at Church at Viera. Church at Viera is a large church, but is very welcoming. They have people readily available to speak to, should you have any questions, are easy to contact (via email, phone, and in person), and are always smiling. There are tables in the fellowship mall (main entrance) for those who wish to gather and talk before service, and several services available: Saturday evenings at 5:30, Sunday mornings in the auditorium at 9:00 and 10:45, and a cafe venue upstairs at 10:45. The cafe venue has a small worship band, and less comfortable seats, but is more intimate because of it's smaller size. My fiancé loves the available K-cup coffee from upstairs. I typically attend the 10:45 auditorium service and love it! The music is great (contemporary and fitting to the sermon), and each singer has their own unique tone and style. As we are human, there have been rare instances of mistake, while a new song is introduced, but all in all they pay close attention to detail and have a dedicated staff. There is a lot of work which goes on behind the scenes and they rarely ever contract out (for events is when they may). The design, maintenance, and production of the stage is completed by volunteers from the congregation. The service is light hearted and focused on His Word, not the word of the pastor. Pastor Mark; however, does not sugar coat God's word, because it is not meant to be. The church focuses on the love of Jesus Christ and not 'fire and brimstone'. The sermons follow the books and do not jump around much (which I prefer), but always lead to major Christian holidays as they approach, as most churches do. Stories from history and quotes from other Christians and/or from the speaker are used to help relate to the sermon. I like this, it keeps everyone in the congregation focused and may help newer Christians with better perspective. They also have a live app for sermon notes, as well as bulletin inserts. There are a lot of small groups to become involved with; although, I have not had the easiest time finding one and getting connected (I am more of an introvert). I love the children's program-I have a 2 y/o, 4 y/o, and 9 y/o, the CAV Preschool (ages 2-VPK), and their vacation bible school (called Slama Jama). CAV does a monthly food drive, shoe boxes and more for Christmas, as well as many other outreach ministries year round. All churches rely on tithes and offerings to function and spread God's Word/serve the community, and have an opportunity during the service, but CAV does not make it's congregation feel bad if they cannot drop money in the basket. *If one feels guilty, than they should pray about it and ask God, himself, how and what they should give.* CAV worship band does sing and play music during tithing, but the music changes in tone and tempo based on the sermon. I have never felt pressured or uncomfortable in my giving. There is also availability to tithing online. CAV has two extra opportunities, monthly, to learn more about who they are and what they stand for; Explore and Belong. Contacting Pastor Rich would also be helpful for newcomers. Solid teaching, excellent children's and student ministries. The worship is excellent in every way. People here have great hearts. It's a Baptist church, but the music is very contemporary, and upbeat. Pastor Mark preaches the Word, and is a man of conviction and integrity. The people are friendly, and responsive to calls for action, whether it's collecting food for the needy, or raising money for local charities. These people get involved. This church offers many opportunities to serve in the community, and on the mission field. It's easy to take shots at a 'big church', and at contemporary worship, but you owe it to yourself to check this place out, and make your own informed decision. read more

I love this church! I was looking for a church in the local area where I could grow and develop in my walk with God, and he led me to this church. Being from Texas and having experienced Southern Bible Thumping Baptist Churches, I was very surprised that it was a Baptist church. The last Baptist church I went to told me to tear out all of Acts if I didn't like the church. After that experience, I stayed very far from that type of negative church. So when I talked with the pastor of Church at Viera, I was very surprised that it was baptist. One of their main points is to make sure that the sermons and messages are visitor orientated for people that don't know God while also trying to satisfy the other members. The main concept of this church is small groups. They highly encourage members to join a small group. It can be hard to get fellowship in a large service, so the Church at Viera really pushes for small groups. They have specialty groups like running, tennis etc. They also have age divided small groups and also topic orientated small groups. For example, there is a young adults small group and also a small group dedicated to studying the Messiah. The church does want to expand their ministry like Mark pointed out; however, is that not the whole point? We are meant to spread the word and encourage others to seek God and his word. As far as attire goes, I wear blue jeans and a t-shirt to service and usually flip-flops. I never feel like other people are looking at me and talking about how badly I dress. The church is in an affluent part of town, and some people like to dress up; however, some do not. I don't care what other people think about what I wear nor do I care what they wear. God knows my heart and he is the only one I need to worry about. As far as money goes that is always a touchy topic for any church. I have hear the pastor talk about money before a sermon as Mark pointed out; however, God owns everything anyways so giving back to his church what is his, is right anyways. If you feel guilty about giving...maybe that is a sign that you need to give more? After all, once you die the money ain't going with you anyways. Might as well give it to a good godly cause to reach more people and change their lives...just saying. In case it matters, I give 10% of my income to the church and I am not wealthy by any means. I figure if I give to God he'll make everything else work out too. I hope that my small opinion helps anyone looking for a church to belong to. If the Church of Viera isn't for you, we still encourage you to talk with a staff members to help point you in the right direction. As someone who has attended this church for many years we are very upset with the churches decisions to live in Fear and be the first to close its doors. The children's ministry is amazing and truly enjoyed the message CAV has been teaching. We pray the congregation trusts God and not base decisions off misleading members of the community and skewed data. Jesus cured plagues and cured the ill do we not think he will protect us in his home? Church should never become a business or political. read more

The preaching and children's ministry are tops. I'm not a fan, however, of the rock concert that begins and ends every service. Refreshing to finally find a church that is focused on the message and small groups. Every church I've been to previously is obsessed on tithing and guilt tripping with large time slots of every sermon dedicated towards tithing. Childcare is great with multiple classes and caring leaders. My kids ask to go to church and I'm glad they're getting excited about church from the start. read more

I have been attending this church for many years and for several reasons it has fed my spiritual needs. 1. Pastor Mark is a leader who teaches practical applications of the gospel every single weekend. With Jesus at the core, he trusts his congregation to understand deeper concepts that will transform their lives. 2. The mission work at this church spans from the local community to a much broader international scope. So, when Pastor Mark preaches about the servant heart of Christ, the body of believers can be inspired to work in any of the church's mission fields. 3. The student ministry for middle/high school students is very active and I've personally seen God's hand transforming the lives of many that attend. I have been a leader at 3 summer camps and every year I see the students opening up to their peers in order to form a christian support system at school. 4. I love the worship at this church because it reflects the vast array of emotions a believer experiences in life. There are upbeat songs that relate to the pure joy we have in the presence of our Creator/Father and there are songs that speak to our graceful, forgiving God that strengthens us when we are weak. The style is in the likes of Bethel, Elevation, Chris Tomlin and other contemporary praise artists you would hear on Z88.3 5. This church is large but it encourages its members to join a small group. Small groups are a great way to grow close with other believers who may become lifelong friends. A great church that teaches the Bible in a practical way. Obviously some are critical of styles of church but church is not really about style it's about the teaching and practice of Scripture. The music is contemporary and the dress is casual although some dress up for service. The pastor is not only practical in his teaching of Scripture but is also honest about his own failings. Church at Viera is a group of folks that practice what they preach and not only help themselves but reach out to the community and the world. Great church with a fantastic children's ministry.

I found the church to be a refreshing difference. There were no skits, but there was a band with singers leading the congregation in songs, I would have preferred to hear a hymn as well as the songs they chose but that is the older person in me. It was obvious that the pastor has a real passion for God and what he believes, which is also refreshing to me. The church has somewhat recently changed their music minister position along with relaxing the mode of worship in a way that it feels more natural and not so much a program followed to the letter. I would recommend this church to anyone want to hear more about God, wanting encouragement and a more positive approach to life. read more

The Church at Viera teaches only one thing; Christ on the Cross and the grace we are ALL free to receive by believing in Him. If it is not in the Holy Bible(the 66 books written by God, with no man made additions) then you will not hear it in this church. My husband and I felt the presence of God's truth the first time we attended 5 yrs. ago and it has been the same ever since. We are all broken people gathering to thank the Lord for saving us. For you Mark, it is clear that you are not in search of a church to attend, but rather you have chosen to see that which will support your belief that you don't need one. If your goal is to assist Satan in destroying the church and Christianity, then have the guts to admit this to yourself.
