Good selection of both draft beers and cocktails; I had an old fashioned which was good. Bartender was very nice too. Tons of chairs and tables too. Only downside wad that Saturday night is karaoke night and they were blasting it at full volume (and not everyone had the best sinning voice if you catch my drift). Overall good time here. read more

This is a great, open fun space for college kids to hang, but not really my vibe. The location is great, as it's in close proximity to the parking structure and blank slate. The space is a cool upper level with plenty of pool tables and large tables. I suspect they have music and events here as well. The bartender was fab, with great recommendations and speedy service. Reasonable prices for Tuesday taco night, but not my type of food. In general, it's heavily fried . We got: veggie burger, chips and queso, Bavarian pretzel w cheese, fried cauliflower, bosco sticks and pork, chicken, beef and shrimp tacos with several margaritas. My friend ordered a veg burger. When it came with bacon and she requested another sans bacon, they were completely baffled and asked if they could just remove the bacon. The tacos were served in heavily fried shells and they were difficult to eat. Servers were nice but this is not a place to come for great food. read more

My boyfriend and I found this spot on Yelp while visiting Ann Arbor recently and wanted to check out the rooftop bar. When we arrived on a Friday around 11 pm, it was hopping! Lots and lots of young people. The bar contains multiple different areas but there was no clear direction on where anything was or directionals to help you get places. We tried to find karaoke but couldn't. We never even ended up on the roof but we grabbed a couple boxtails and sat at a picnic table in the gravel parking lot area where we came in. The boxtails are a fun novelty but at $10 each for a small juice box and liquor shooter, I wouldn't need to order another. I had the lychee and vodka one and Nate got the mango and tequila. They were tasty! I was appalled at the prices at this bar, though -- $7.50 for a Bud Light or a White Claw...!! Can you believe? This is a college town, not New York City. I also noticed right away that they automatically add a 20% gratuity to your bill, yet still give an option to add an additional tip. I think this is super shady especially at a bar where people are likely going to be intoxicated and not notice. I didn't see this posted anywhere clearly for guests, so be aware! If you're young and have a lot of money to spend on overpriced drinks, this may be the place for you. I'm not mad we went, but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. read more

Went here on a Thursday and it was DEAD. Literally maybe 3 other people inside but us. We were led to believe they had a full food menu based on photos online but it's more just snack type food. For $10, a buffet of breakfast foods is hard to beat. There were bagels, scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage links, waffles, and... egg rolls. Unexpected, but a nice surprise. We had a special event at this bar, rented the upper floor, they were incredibly disorganized, the food (bar food, so expectations weren't too high) was really just ok, and the staff were ALL incredibly rude. Have you been to The Circ Bar since it's been redone? Wow, just wow. I contacted Steven (events manager) to evaluate the space and availability for a large private party on a Thursday night in October. The space is incredible. Large, high ceilings in the main room, with a wrap around bar. Original wood floors, and supports really give the space character while preserving the history of the building. I believe it used to be a brewery. The lounge area is what we surveyed for the private space. It has its own bar with an outdoor deck! The deck also has a DJ booth, heaters, ample seating and privacy. It overlooks the train tracks but that doesn't detract from the intimacy of the space. I had my boss in tow to see the space and she treated me to a glass of wine. The wine menu is great with reasonable choices. I think I had a glass of Whitehaven Sauv Blanc for $7. The bartender was super sweet and happy to answer any questions. TVs are everywhere, but seating is limited. This isn't a place you go to sit, anyway. You dance, and mingle. We didn't end up booking the lounge, but it was a tough choice. I am just looking for any reason to book in the future. It's an outstanding space, close to downtown and you cannot beat that rooftop deck. read more

This used to be Circus, but wow, does it look different now. They've tossed away all the cheesiness of the previous incarnation and made it very upscale, while keeping the "loft" feel of the previous building. A friend and I came here yesterday for karaoke. There's a $5 cover charge and it's cash-only, but they do have an ATM on-site. The karaoke "nook"/stage has been moved to the opposite side of the room, where the billiards used to be at Circus, and there's now a huge bar that takes up a good chunk of the room. They also have some bar bites with standard fare like mozzarella sticks, as well as some fancier items like cauliflower. To sign up for karaoke, you download their app and go from there, which was interesting. They then add you to their queue and eventually you'll see your name pop up on the TV screen they have, which was cool. I didn't sing last night but my friend did. The bathrooms are also super nice, like another reviewer said, which I appreciated. Overall, Circ gets 4/5 stars from me - get rid of the cover charge and add a few more tables and perhaps it would be a 5/5. I did like that it wasn't just 21-year-olds there, though; one lady was celebrating her 60th birthday, and there was definitely a mix of ages overall, from like 21-60 or so. PS: based on Yelp menu pics, we were excited to try the corn dog bites - but they are no longer on the bar menu! Bummer. read more

Disappointing food and service. The ambiance was hostile. There needs to be marked signage or someone to check IDs at the door. There was none when we walked in so we sat down and decided to order food. One member of our group went to go put in a food order and the bartender (long hair and glasses) was incredibly rude and insisted we should have presented IDs already as it was past 10pm. All of us are 21+. While I understand the policy, they need to have this marked or someone to check IDs at the door, rather than being treated unwelcome. When our food came, the bartender threw it across the table without a word and ran away. To say this was disappointing is an understatement. Maybe the bartender was just having a bad day, but the lack of customer service (given that the bar was empty) does not make me want to come back. read more

This place has it all - outdoor/indoor seating, decent prices for drinks, and some yummy bar snacks. My boyfriend and I decided to check out the upstairs inside and stumbled upon karaoke. It was a Saturday night so I'm not sure if it's a regular thing or not, but it was entertaining and there was a decent crowd there. There was plenty of seating, great for going out in bigger groups. We got the pretzels and cheese and idk if I was just drunk or what but I haven't stopped thinking about them since. They were *chefs kiss*. The bathrooms had a long line but they were clean. This was my first Yelp experience and it was phenomenal! I am really grateful that Robert P. Invited me to be a part of it! At the event I was able to sample five of their cocktails on tap which is a really neat concept to me. My favorite one was the margarita and the bartenders were super friendly. I also got to try the sliders, fries, cheese sticks, and fried cauliflower. The fries were the highlight with their crispness and the fried cauliflower is great for any of my vegan friends. The atmosphere is very modern as it is in a brick building with dim lighting. There is also a stage for karaoke if you are into it! There is also a pool table and a patio for even more fun to be had. Overall I highly recommend Circ for the atmosphere, cocktails on tap, and the fries! I will definitely be going back when I am in Ann Arbor for the nightlife! read more

So I haven't been here since it was Circus and wow what a difference. It's so much more cleaner and modern now. However with that, remember the prices are not the same. Modern look means more money for drinks. There is also a cover here, try to get here before 10pm to avoid the cover. They still have karaoke and they have turned the music on so loud. So we all have to hear who's singing, even if we don't know them. They have an awesome second bar in the back with out side access on a patio. It will be awesome in the summer. read more

What a pleasant surprise! The last time I went to this place it was called circus and was a very different vibe! I am so pleased with circ bar's new look and would definitely recommend. The food was actually so great, which was probably the most pleasant surprise. The fried cauliflower was really fantastic and I was so impressed with the flavor and spice. Quite easily the best bar/club in Ann Arbor. They have so much to offer, the bartenders are genuinely interested in you if you're not there during mass rush hours, BEST karaoke in town no doubt, with special events going on practically every week. I'll be moving to Grand Rapids soon and will sorely miss this place. Some people say the prices are a little too high, but they have specials almost every day, including 50% off all craft beers during the weekdays. Not to mention the food is top of the line; best food I've had outside of a proper restaurant, for real. If you're looking for an awesome crowd, an awesome venue (CHECK OUT the basement if you get the chance!!), and an amazing staff, then check out Circ. Will be coming back for sure if I'm in the area. Lovely outdoor, rooftop bar area! Perfect place to con-gregate, rec-reate and sa-tiate your craving for good beer, drinks and fun. The decor and landscaping create a welcoming atmosphere. Servers and staff regularly take away "empties" and tabletops generally stay clean and tidy. A DJ keeps the music going and the crowd moving. There's plenty of space for large groups, which we were a part of, and tables and chairs can easily be moved around to accommodate a growing group. In addition, there is banquette type seating along the entire far wall. Although it was a perfect night to be outdoors when we stopped by for drinks, we saw large heaters that can warm things up when the weather turns cooler. While there were plenty of college kids in attendance by the time the night was over, this is definitely the kind of place where anyone of any age would feel comfortable. read more

We went to Circ a few weeks back for their summer solstice event. You paid a $10 cover charge, but that included a drink. Unfortunately, it was only certain beers and well drinks (most of which cost less than $10). I ordered one of their chocolate coffee mixed drinks, but it was far more bitter and coffee/liquor focused and much less chocolatey. It looks great on the inside since renovating, and the outdoor seating area is absolutely gorgeous. They have an upstairs bar near the outdoor seating area in addition to the main bar. It's definitely a cool, cosmopolitan, upscale feeling, especially with the cover charge. But the drinks don't quite justify it, and, honestly, a cover charge at a bar in Michigan (this isn't New York, LA or even Chicago. Come on) is kinda lame. read more

The gremlin-like, short, ill-looking, bald headed, poorly dressed bouncer doesn't seem to be all there in the head and apparently has an ego problem because when I called him stupid for saying that my real ID was fake, he tried to kick me out of the establishment. Went for the after-dark scene. No management of the line to get in, so that was a Circus. Dj decided to bash through the crowd in "line" to get in with his posse instead of using the back door. Pushed my friend to the ground on his way to get in, and then he and his crew pummeled a random guy who was trying to leave and bumped into him. At least play a good set if you think you're that big of a deal... we did not spend very long there. read more

Circ Bar (New name) is just what Ann Arbor needed! The new decor is amazing and welcoming. Restrooms are super clean. Drink menu is simple and amazing (Funky Rummers all day!). The staff is very nice, and the owners (I think they were the owners) are very friendly. The food is great as well: bar bites but great ingredients and made fresh. Try the Galbi tacos in butter lettuce or the chicken nuggets (black bean BBQ sauce all day). Restrooms are also super clean. I highly recommend this place. I also Hear the downstairs is re-opening and can't wait to see what they do there. My new go-to in Ann Arbor. I can't wait to come back. read more

I attended Circ for New Years Eve. The good: It was a nice bar and had cute decorations for NYE. The ticket was pretty affordable considering it came with two drink tickets and a ticket for a champagne toast. The not so good: The event stated that it started at 8, and we arrived at 8:01, only to have them not let anyone in. We waited for about 15 minutes in the rain without shelter. On NYE, of course, most girls had done their hair, and it was ruined after 15 mins in the rain. Additionally, the music at the beginning of the night was very slow. They were a great band and I enjoyed hearing them play, but not the type of music I was looking for on NYE. After, it was karaoke for the next two hours. While entertaining, it was cringeworthy at many times. Finally, at midnight, the DJ started, and the night picked up. Overall, I probably won't attend another event here, but I would consider stopping by on a random night out! read more

The renovations done to Circ Bar really make this place unique. The back patio is huge and the manager talked about how they will have heat lamps and a fire pit in the winter. The bar top, lighting, chairs, decor makes the place totally modernized. They also have SO many TVs which made it great for Saturday college football games. We were able to take advantage of the game day special - half off domestics and all food. Only possible complaint or criticism is that the apps are all just standard fried food and nothing special but hard to complain when it was $3. read more

Great place to come for kareoke night. There is always security here checking ids. Only thing I did not like is you have to climb a staircase to get in. What if you're drunk? I'm sure a lot of people have fallen down these stairs being drunk. There is not much options in the way of food also. Drinks are not that great. There are lots of games to play though like a pool table and some other game I had no clue how to play. read more

Came here for a group event and was handled WAY to aggressively by bouncers for no reason. I asked for the manager due to an incident that occurred outside the venue, the bartender told me he was the manager and then started shining a flashlight in my face for the bouncers to see me..... I was doing nothing wrong. The bouncers then proceeded to grab me by my arms and handling me inappropriately. Once I talked to the manager he was very understanding and apologized about his bouncers. There needs to be a change with how the employees treat people in this establishment. read more
