Also, with the 114th anniversary of the Titanic approaching, I figured I should learn more about the disaster's one of the most prominent survivors. My tour guide (Eli) was very informative and they talked about a lot of the inticracies of the house that I wouldn't have noticed if I had wandered around the house by myself, including details about the staircase and the method of constructing it, the wallpaper, stained glass, etc. I was particularly fascinated by how Margaret Brown leveraged her high profile status as a Titanic wreck survivor to fight for various causes such as women's suffrage, who she really was behind the legend of "Molly Brown," and the history of the house after its sale (how it became a group home for girls, and their antics of painting the lions up front and throwing things at the people passing by on the sidewalk). Definitely grateful for Eli's expertise -- shows they're really passionate about passing down the local history to the community and beyond. I left with more knowledge than I expected to learn. Thank you Eli! It was also great that the house itself contained a good number of original pieces of the house from back in the 1910s, which isn't always the case with historical houses. There was also a little back room that had original pieces from the White Star Line so people could see the plates and other things that passengers on the Titanic would have used, as well as a super detailed model of the ship itself. Will definitely be recommending this tour for anyone who plans to go to Denver.

Tweet did wonders to the house, no castle; and it was a castle. Original artwork, beautiful furniture, and lots of stories. It's so amazing! We parked, unintentionally, in the back lower level, so entered through the "dungeon," where we met Kelly, the friendly, tiaraed Duchess of the Dungeon. We were early for our seating, so she regaled us with stories of her childhood adventures in the Castle, where she met "residents" (of the spiritual kind). I use a walker, and there is a back staircase equipped with a chair lift--a new experience for me, and much appreciated. The Queen's Parlor Tea Room was tastefully decorated for Halloween. My friend and I donned slightly outrageous hats before we were seated. The china is lovely, small arrangements of fresh flowers are scattered about, and the afternoon light was heavenly. Our server, Kayla, was delightful, dressed in Victorian style. We made our tea selection from the extensive menu: Pecan Caramel for my friend, and Chai for me. Both were delicious, and the tea pots hold four cups, so there's plenty to share. Light Victorian Tea is three courses: Scones, Savories, and Sweets. The selections vary day-to-day, but all is fresh and beautifully presented and delectable. The scones were of generous size and served right from the oven. Yum! We happened to have the room to ourselves, but Kayla didn't rush us. Instead, we were made to feel welcomed guests. The tiny powder room has the lowest toilet I've ever encountered anywhere, but luckily there's a grab rail. It was needed! At the end of our time there, I decided to descend the outside stairs rather than use the chair lift again. Another employee, Kate, obligingly carried my lightweight rollator down for me. Really, it's apparent employees are happy here, and love their Castle. And so did we. I can hardly wait to return.

To date, we have toured seven different state capitol buildings around the country and have taken a tour in each of them. I would rank this tour very highly. There are a fair number of stairs and walking on the tour so if stairs, walking, or the elevation is a concern, use the elevator during your visit or on the tour. The building is worth visiting to see the marble alone. It is everywhere and it is gorgeous. One of the highlights of the tour was going to the top of the building. There are many, many stairs to take (90? 99? I cannot recall) to get there so keep that in mind. But if you reach the top, you will be rewarded with amazing 360 degree views in all directions. Well worth a visit!

Colorado Sightseer has a variety of tours listed on their website. We chose the Blue Sky Mountain…read moreSummit Tour (fka Mount Evans) which is one of 58 14'ers (that's what they call mountains over 14,000 feet) in Colorado. The tour is a full day, leaving around 8 am from Union Station and arriving back around 430 pm in the afternoon. The tour van is quite comfortable and has three rows of seating in addition to a front passenger seat. I would say that the level of difficulty of the walking portion of the tour is not high, but the summit trail does require a bit of stamina and the air is a bit thinner up there, so you may be unaccustomed to it (more about this below). The other trails at Summit Lake (at 12, 800 ft) and Mount Goliath Natural Area are pretty flat (there are steps down to the lake). After leaving Denver city proper for the mountains, the tour stops for about 30-45 minutes at Mount Goliath visitor station, which has a small visitor center and a roundabout mini trail. What's truly amazing are the extremely old Bristlecone Pine trees, both living and beautifully sculpted old trunks (apparently some are 1500 years old). The trail is right on the tree line where the trees begin to dissipate, apparently because of the extreme winds that befall the mountain sides. Along the way is a very beautiful alpine lake (I can't recall the name). The tour stops for a few minutes (and there's a restroom). Next, the tour van proceeds rather gingerly up a (what some would call harrowing) two lane "paved" road claimed to be the highest in North America. Now, this road starts off all fine and well but proceeds to get more windy and twisty and the shoulders all but disappear with rather large drops just to the side. But we didn't fear, or closed our eyes if needed, because our driver, Emily, was at the wheel and expertly navigated the road, while providing very interesting facts and history along the way. Finally, we reached the summit of Mount Blue Sky. There's a parking lot and a final walking path that winds up to the peak of the mountain, 14,264 feet in elevation. The path is not difficult and there are no steep parts, but there are loose rocks and narrow portions. I did notice that some people had a bit of difficulty with it, but for most, it was very doable. In fact, a cane would be kind of fun to have with you. Once you get to the peak, it's for many a once in a lifetime experience. I mean how many people get to stand on a mountain this high? Luckily, it was a gorgeous day, and the temp was low 60s (it was upper 80s in downtown Denver) and clear enough to see the Denver skyline way, way off in the distance with binoculars. Our guide kept warning us that storms can form suddenly and to be on the lookout. Also, the temp drops quite a bit, so bring something warm, depending on the time of year. There is also wildlife along the tour and I gather that it depends on the day what you'll see. We caught amazing close up views of white-coated mountain goats, adults and cute little ones. In fact, I almost thought one of them would come up to the open door of the van. We didn't see any big horn sheep, but we did spot many marmots, which look like a mountain cousins of the beaver. The last stop was for a late lunch in Idaho Springs, which boasts itself as an old, scenic mining town. There were a few decent places for lunch along a strip closed off for walking, and stores for browsing. Also, there's a museum at one end of the downtown but there was not enough time to visit. The ride back from Idaho Springs was about an hour, leaving you back at Union Station. All in all, the Colorado Sightseer Blue Sky Mountain Summit Tour was amazing! Our tour guide Emily was fantastic, providing a lot of information along the way (including about her life), and a skilled van driver (she had available extra water, snacks, and jackets). I highly recommend the tour for a full day adventure!

I brought my whole family and it was enjoyable for all ages from 12 to 77- There is a bit of walking and standing but some chances to sit down. Totally more interesting than walking around the area without information. The fun part (all of it is fun) was going inside Union Station and hearing the history that has been glossed over by historians trying to attract visitors to Denver. As the tour progresses, it gets better and better. By the time we exited Union Station, it was dark and the area was lit up with people enjoying the beautiful evening- you see pedicabs and bicycles, lit buildings and a fountain with lights in addition to the story weaver guide. This is the authentic tour to take.

I get ghost tours are a lot of woowoo and stories, but I genuinely could not believe a word of history this man said because it was so shrouded in his personal opinion. He also would not stop bragging about how versed in research he was. Tour was supposed be two hours but he could not stop talking about stuff we didn't ask that had nothing to do with the tour we missed our reservation. Not to mention, had many indigenous peoples in our group and he kept talking over them telling them about their own culture and that they're wrong. Man was so full of himself I had a genuine bad time.

Other lowlights were listening to the guide drone on and on about his life and opinions, pulling over THREE times as one lady thought she maybe saw some wildlife waaaayyy in the distant woods, and spending much too long in a small town where half the stores were closed so the gondola opters could have their unscheduled fun and the tour company could grab a few extra dollars.

No explanation of what the purpose of the speaker was so we just synced it with our iphone and played music (which the car behind us did the same so it was dueling music). Maybe that was the purpose??? I think the concept of Colorado Railbike Adventures has so much potential and they could do so much more to make the experience unforgettable but unfortunately, there's was nothing that made me want to come back or spread the word to try this experience. The staff was nice and the manager was great at sharing some history of the RR tracks, coal mining town, and history of Erie.
