We chose "Cotswolds in Comfort" which was 6 days and we couldn't have been happier with our experience. And everything was so interesting and gorgeous. Yes, it rained on the first day and we walked through a lot of mud. Macs Adventure can't control that, but the other stuff that they could manage, went off almost flawlessly. That included excellent accommodations, efficient luggage transfer, pre-trip information, and a walking app that kept us on our paths and never lost. Actually, we did wander off once to avoid mud, and the app did show us where we could get back on path. We're now talking about where our next Macs Adventure walking tour might be. France? Germany? August 2025 My wife and another couple great friends met in Dublin then train to Dingle Peninsula, Southwest Ireland. What a great experience! the inns we stayed were very nice, made lunch for us daily, and the drivers who met us at the train, then took our bags to next inn were fun to talk with, regarding local attractions. Do not use this company MACS Adventure. They have a very strict cancellation policy: once you give them a deposit, there is no refund. If you cancel, they give you the option of applying the deposit (less a $150 PER PERSON fee) to a future trip, or just forfeiting the refund. We deposited $668 for a couple, and then 3 days later we realized we could not do this trip and wrote to cancel. MACS refused a refund of our deposit, and offered to apply $66 toward a future trip. So customer-unfriendly. They had not lost any money in those three days. They wrote me that the reason they are refusing a refund is "We have to maintain very strict cancellation terms since we have had so many cancellations recently. We cannot make any exceptions." Macs Adventure is a wonderful company and I love the wide range of trips that they offer. I've been on two so far (Amalfi Coast and Tour du Mont Blanc) and am going on another one year. Both places were beautiful and had some incredible hikes. Their trips are super easy to book and all the staff there are friendly and helpful. They took all the stress out of planning and booked us beautiful accommodations every night. I can't recommend this company enough and look forward to travelling with them again! read more

I so wish I had checked all the negative reviews before booking with Macs Adventure. We booked a trip with them and paid in full. Unfortunately, a medical emergency resulted in us needing to postpone our plans. We contacted Macs Adventure about our situation and requested the opportunity to rebook at a later date. We were not asking for a refund but rather just a postponement. They declined saying it was beyond the cancellation date. It was a medical emergency not simply a change of heart! It feels like they are financially capitalizing on the misfortunes of others. And their "kind offer"? A 20% discount on a future booking! Wow! So, I'm posting this in hopes others will think twice before using MA. I am appalled by their cavalier attitude towards not only our medical emergency but their complete and utter lack of customer service. read more

I was lucky enough to partake in a Macs adventure trip to Germany's Bavarian alps. Macs planned everything from the stays to the transport options which made planning so much less stressful. The app tracks your treks really well. I have issues navigating and sometimes trails change but Macs is great about sending people to update the directions and keep everything as up to date as possible. If you ever run into an issue, someone is contactable to assist you. Sometimes trails close so be open minded and flexible if your trek is in the mountains. I can't wait to plan my next Macs adventure trip... I'm thinking Italian coast :) read more

We went on Ireland's West Coast trip with Macs Adventure. One word to describe it- STUNNING. We were so lucky with weather, only one day of clouds and the rest of our time was sunny. The hikes were amazing with beautiful coastal views. A mix of easy and challenging yet rewarding hikes. This was the BEST way to explore Irelands West coast. With quaint towns and lively pubs in the evening there are plenty of things to do and see. All the accommodation were welcoming and helpful when we asking what they recommended for dinner and must see places. Doolin was our favorite little town it had really delicious bites to eat and friendly locals to chat with! Highly recommend Macs Adventure for your self Adventure travels. read more

I booked Hadrian's Wall with Macs Adventure and am so glad I did! As an American, I was nervous about traveling abroad, but England ended up being the perfect choice for me. The Macs team made sure I had everything I needed beforehand, which gave me a lot of confidence. I hiked East to West in October, and while it was windy and rainy, the team had prepared me in advance, so I knew exactly what to expect. The charming bed and breakfasts they booked were wonderful, and the daily luggage transfer was a lifesaver--I didn't have to worry about carrying everything with me each day. My daughter and I took the Southern Amalfi: Cilento Coast Short Break trip in October. It was a magical trip! Our accommodations in both Paestum and Santa Maria di Castellabate were fabulous, the people we met were so kind, the scenery was beautiful, and the food was delicious. We leisurely toured the Greek ruins and had beautiful views of the Tyrrhenian Sea on our hikes. It was quiet and felt like an Italian local vacation escape rather than a busy touristy spot. Based on our tour of the Swiss Alps, we were underwhelmed by the value added by Mac's Adventures. Literally, what they did was book hotels and arrange luggage transfers - nothing one can't do for oneself. The three hotels they booked for us were 1) barely adequate, 2) quite nice, and 3) pretty nice. With a modicum of research and the "AllTrails" app, one could book these accommodations for half the price - saving THOUSANDS. read more

Macs is a rip off. They don't provide any direct services, only an app that is riddled with problems. We received bad directions on three separate occasions, two of which put us in danger. Also when I posted negative reviews on their own website, they deleted them. Save money and book yourself directly or use a better company. read more

Absolutely loved my trip with Macs Adventure on King Ludwig Way! Everything about the trip was hassle free and well thought out - the luggage transfer was seamless and the app was fantastic when trying to navigate confusing path signs. We stayed in both popular tourist areas and small towns where the only restaurant was the one at the hotel (phenomenal nonetheless)! I've done a lot of European travel previously, but this trip was a great way to see more "local" spots and get a feel for the region outside of the tourist hotspots. The accommodations were all very nice, clean, and hospitable. The food along the way was amazing! Macs Adventure is truly the best of both worlds - it allows you to have a self guided experience at your own pace, while not having to worry about the logistics. There's the peace of mind knowing theres someone to call if there are any major hiccups while on the trip and I would absolutely go on a Macs trip again in the future! read more

I have booked 2 trips with Macs Adventure. I just returned from a solo adventure to Scotland and had such an amazing time, this was my first time leaving the US alone or doing any trip alone and it was a phenomenal experience. They are available 24/7 for any issues during the trip. I love them and highly recommend their services. In fact, I just booked a second adventure with them for next year. I saw another review and want to respond. The cancellation policy is clearly spelled out before you book - more than 42 days before the tour is a full refund minus deposit. 42-28 days before tour 70% refund of all payments. 28-15 days before tour 50% refund. 14 days or less no refund. read more

I LOVE Macs Adventure! I went on the Malta hiking trip and it was amazing. The hikes were spectacular, the lodgings were beautiful and comfortable, and our hosts were so welcoming! Macs itinerary was too notch and we got to see the entire island country in a week. The transfers were seamless and the on-trip customer service team answered all of our questions. Do not book Cycling the Paradors of Extremadura ! We booked this trip after reading a very positive article in the Financial Times, waxing lyrical about the 5 paradores this 7-day trip encompases. So, when we received the itinerary details a few weeks before departure (having paid £2650 for two people excluding flights) we were shocked to see not 5, not 4, not 3 but 2 paradores on the list with other much more mundane hotels replacing them. In response to our complaint Macs Adventures said "read the fine print - we have the right to change hotels - the itinerary on the web is indicative, etc etc - and we can't help you". read more

I absolutely loved my Macs trip - Napa Valley Wine and Walking! They laid everything out so well, and we had great communication with the local supplier. We always felt taken care of and stayed in the most beautiful accommodations in Sonoma County! The hikes were full of redwoods, wildflowers, etc. and we were able to end each day with a winery (1 included, but in prime areas to visit others not included). We loved the flexibility to choose our own dinners and evening plans! read more

We booked a trip to Scotland in 2020. They had us give them a deposit. Then Covid hit and they cancelled our trip, swallowing our deposit. Watch out for a clause in the contract called "force majure". This gives them the right to cancel a trip when it is not their fault, and not reimburse the deposits. We also learned that at the end of this trip we had to figure out on our own how to get back to the airport, on a Sunday when things were closed down. Not trying this again. read more

We had a seamless experience and loved having the baggage transfer service while we hiked. The accommodations were all fantastic as well. We called the Denver office a couple of times before the trip and always spoke with lovely people. So I'm Booking my trip, wrote to them several times, many weeks later they responded, should have stopped there, but I didn't, big mistake ! They are unorganized, unresponsive, never even made it to a trip with Macs, glad I didn't ! If there were a problem while on trip it might be over before a call back !!! ( with this in mind ) I canceled the trip , sent several E mails to get confirmation ! , over a long period of time, ......finally they notified and canceled trip, but not really, ???? no refund of deposit, first yes, then no, ?? and then, weeks later and they still sent trip documents today ?...for the canceled trip,,,,,,,really. Three of us have gone on at least 13 cycling trips together and this one organized by Macs Adventure - BY FAR - has been the biggest hassle with links not working, everything costing an extra excessive fee (bike, changes, hotels), and a lack of flexibility (no refunds during COVID - come on!). recommend going with local company as we usually do. Macs Adventures is not a company I would recommend. In fact quite the opposite. They are invoking the force majeure clause in their cancellation policy to give them the right to cancel or make major changes to trips without refunding the deposit. No one can argue that this is a challenging time in the travel industry but the type of company that would make such a decision (no refund of deposit) does not have its clients' best interests at heart. What else will they do with the trips? They can change anything at any time or cancel and you have no recourse. read more

A few months ago I did a comparison of prices listed on the North American (NA) website verses the European website. In each case the prices were higher on the NA website. In one case it was over $1,000 more. I was looking at the Coast to Coast and Adrian's Wall hikes at the time. This was after taking into account the exchange rate, of course. At that time I could book through the European website, so it didn't matter much. However, when I visited macsadventure.com recently, I was redirected to the NA site with no option to refuse. So far I haven't figured out a workaround. I don't know if this situation still exists, but until it is resolved I will not be using Macs Adventure to plan any of my trips. I refuse to be overcharged just because I live in North America. read more

Macs provided good information leading up to the trip we booked. There was a major problem at the end however. We arrived in Amsterdam on Friday the 2nd of September, a day ahead of the beginning of the tour. We had asked Macs for embarkation information earlier in the process and were told that the location would be given to us closer to the date the tour would start. We had not yet received exact embarkation details and we contacted Macs via e-mail to get this vital information. Caroline Sloan responded with a copy of information we had already received, but without the specifics needed. She ended with this: "I shall also check if we can find out where exactly the docking port will be for your sailing. Hope this helps in the meantime!". We never got any further messages from her or Macs. To make a long and stressful story shorter, the next morning (Saturday) we spent excess energy and time trying to find the boat and finally made phone contact with "Boat Bike Tours" the actual operators of the tour. This was 1.5 hours from when the boat was scheduled to leave!! One week ago I sent an e-mail to our contact at Macs, Charlie Weaver, with this information to allow him to respond to this complaint.
