All staffs here (pro shop, starters , OSP) are all very friendly and professional. Each cart comes with two bottles of water. There are 3 nine holes; Palmer, Gambler and Pioneer. Our group's favorite courses are Palmer and Gambler. Palmer: this is not the typical easy pleasy resort course. It is super challenging / tough, a very target golf. Definitely not for beginners, but extremely satisfy after the round. Bathroom (Palmer): clean because it is literally a JW facility. But it requires a little walk through the pool area. Gambler: not as tough as Palmer but still quite challenging and fun. Bathroom (Gambler): I think it was portable. Sad since it is such a fancy facility. Pioneer: this is the friendliest 9 out of the three courses and appears to be the busiest too. Bathroom (Pioneer): don't remember. My colleague and I had a session with the golf pro Jackson, who was so good at his job! He helped me remember the little golf I knew and improve my swing. He worked with three of us in the clinic and even gave feedback to a few others practicing. The club loaned us clubs along with a golf cart as part of the resort fee. Another woman in the clinic kept saying how nice the clubs were- so I'm thinking they were pretty good. She even asked about getting a set. After the clinic, we headed to the clubhouse for lunch. We sat at the bar since the restaurant was pretty busy and the empty seats were in the sun. The bar tender was nice and provided menu suggestions. My colleague settled on the local hotdog (wrapped in bacon and with mustard, ketchup, mayo, and beans. - yep the beans were on the dog.) I followed the recommendation of the bar tender and ordered the chicken sandwich. It was DELICIOUS! There was a hot honey sauce that set the sandwich apart from any I've ever had. The chicken was nice and crispy, and yummy pickles! The food was so good and the prices were better than at the resort. It was so good I came back before I left the conference. read more

The club at Star Pass is the golf club Resturant way down the road from the hotel. Eating on the patio delivers a beautiful view of the green and you can watch as golfers hit or miss the green and their putting as well. There is good parking nearby and all the grounds are very well done so it is beautiful to enter. The buildings are the same. The food is decent and the service was friendly. This is a great place to go for lunch or dinner. Kids can even run on the expansive grass a few feet away from the tables as long as no golfer sprays a ball in that direction. read more

Attended a Tucson Foodie event here and was surprised to learn the dining at the club (Creosote) is open to the public. The dining space is large with indoor and shaded patio outdoor seating... as well as indoor / outdoor bar seating. The views of the golf course, lush green and mountains make it an idyllic setting to unwind. Full bar with a good cocktail menu. The quesobirria tacos and cauliflower tacos were my favorite. Ample parking. Definitely will be returning to enjoy an evening with beautiful views! read more

Played her about a week ago. It's a beautiful but tough coarse (we played Pioneer and Palmer ). I thought it was in good shape tee to green. There have been some coarse and club house renovations in recent years but it is all complete now. The Marshall gave us some good tips. read more

Greens might very well have been in the worst condition I've ever seen in the 30 years I've been playing golf. Absolutely atrocious, looked and rolled like a bomb testing range AFTER the bombs dropped. How they charge money to play in their shape is absolutely astonishing. No, I'm not just complaining as some random hack, my index is 1.8. I know of what I speak and the condition of these greens is flat out awful; easily added 7-10 strokes to my round from their back tees (Gold). Still broke 80, but in no way shape or form was that assisted by the greens. Do better Starr Pass, do better. read more

I visit the West New Mexico(Tucson) area once a year for a three day golf vacation. I have done this for the last few years, and play a course I haven't played yet on one of the day. This year was Starr Pass Golf Club. I heard of the stories of how tough this course is. Since I have played Quintero, and Las Sendas. Which are both known to be the toughest courses in the state. I didn't expect much more. Boy was I wrong. I can honestly say, and just playing this course for the first time which does matter. This course is by far the toughest course I have played to date. Not known how the holes played, makes it hard. I do recommend if you play here, try to partner up with someone who have played here before. This will help out immensely. Now even though I had a rough day, I still enjoyed Starr Pass very much. And can't wait to come back again. The course was in great shape. Service was great, beverage carts where there for us during the hot day. I'll be back!! read more

A great experience on a well maintained course. While some of the greens were only in average shape, the tee boxes and fairways - often challenging because of their narrowness and the drop offs - were in great shape. I had heard it was a good, tough course and it lived up to the billing. Considering the reasonable afternoon rates and the spectacular views from the elevated tee boxes, it's definitely worthy of playing again. read more

I played coyote/ roadrunner. I am writing this review comparing other resort golf courses charging $100 in October . My understanding was that the over seeding was done golf cart paths only-- the over seeding had not started. The greens were in very rough condition made worse by the group in from not fixing ball marks. The courses are all very challenging. There are plenty of Blind shots and Carryovers that will tax the high handicapper. Even the single digit from the back tees will find the deserts and rough. I play 28x my 1 metal but think maybe a little shorter because of difficulty. As a previous poster had commented -- when the winds are roaring it turns a difficult course into a monster. The winds were up and the ball found the desert. One thing along with rough greens I thought was not worth a $100 -- the bunkers have sand and rocks, and are not very deep. At about a 1/2 inch I found mud. These are not waste bunkers but are groomed as such. The help are exhausted I think .. so some have an attitude. Though this is the course Phil won in 1991, I would not put it on my bucket list. There are many more memorable courses in Tucson that are far more playable. read more

I'm an avid golfer, a 3 handicap that understands golf, but more importantly I'm a restaurant owner and this is about their lack of covid prevention and the cart woman. To have zero masks for any of the cart barn guys, starters, or cart woman, especially on a hot zone state like AZ, is so unbelievably irresponsible that the Marriott group and whoever manages the course ought to be ashamed of themselves. Average age of the golfer out there is probably 55, many at higher risk, and it's the responsibility and current legal obligation in pima county to have workers in masks when they can't social distance... which they can't, or weren't. Now to the cart woman. Never in my life have I witnessed someone as put out to be at work as she was. Quite literally, she acted like being at work was the most miserable thing that could be happening. No mask, overly rude, no thank you.... then there it was, auto gratuity. The death of any customer service is auto grat on a couple of gatorades and waters. For a hotel who was or is in bankruptcy, I'd expect a tighter operation. Will not be back. read more

Came here for a tee time and decided to stop into the country club after for the drinks. Sarah, the bartender helped us and she was AMAZING! She was attentive, personable and really cared about our visit being the best. The spicy margarita was so good! The wings came out perfectly and the bbq was on point! One of the most beautiful golf courses I have played. Deer or quail or roadrunners on almost every hole. Very interesting and tough holes. Mix of forgiving and extremely unforgiving holes. No GPS on carts and not enough bathroom facilities in course. But otherwise nice and quality. read more

This course is absolutely gorgeous. It is somewhat difficult with elevations, and desert, make sure you bring a few balls with you. It was a beautiful day in the pace of play was fantastic. My only gripe was that we came down from Phoenix for my friends birthday and three of us wanted to split the cost of golf for his birthday. IF YOU WANT TO DIE FROM DEHYDRATION WHILE PLAYING GOLF, HERE IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! I went golfing this afternoon. We teed off at 2 pm. The pro shop was open, drinks were being sold at the club house, and the beverage cart was on the course. Employees were working at the podium sending people off. No one said anything about beverages, or the lack there of. I had my 40 oz water bottle and figured I'd be able to fill up from water jugs on the course. Beverage cart passes by me on the first hole. I tell her I'm good for now, but maybe I'll get something from her next time around. She drives off without saying anything. I don't see her again the rest of the day. I played the first 9 holes. There were no water jugs anywhere on the course, despite the temps being over 100°. After 9 holes, I'm 90% out of water. Decide I'll stop at the turn (around 4 pm) and fill up and buy some Gatorade. The restaurant and bar is closed. The Club House is closed. The Pro Shop is closed. No attendants are even out front. There isn't a single employee there. Nowhere to get drinks and no one to ask for water. Nothing! I decide to make the turn and try and use my remaining water sparingly. On the 4th hole of the back 9 I lose my balance, stumble into the cart, bang up and twist my knee, before ultimately landing on the ground. I tried to stand up, got real light headed and nauseous, and collapsed back to the ground. I laid on the side of the fairway while cooling myself by dunking my bandana in the melted ice in the cooler. I felt absolutely miserable during that time and wasn't sure how long or if I'd recover without water. My friend considered calling 911 (since no one at the course was a available). After 10 minutes I felt the nausea start to subside. I felt strong enough to head back to the clubhouse. When returning to the from there were no employees in sight. There were at least a dozen cars in the parking lot as there were plenty of groups still on the course. I can't believe that there was nowhere to fill up OR purchase beverages. Even worse, there's no one telling you that they're closing the shop at 3 and there's no water on the course, so I better make sure I have enough beverages for the entire round. Feels like they're being extremely negligent. I have no doubt that the only reason I collapsed and felt the way I did was due to dehydration and heat exhaustion. If water was available, I know I'd be fine. I've golfed in 100°+ many times during my 15 years in Tucson. Start Pass Golf Club clearly doesn't care about their customers. read more

Course was in great shape, however it's a tough course to golf. Checkin was seamless and my bags were on a cart as I went to start. The practice area was adequate for the warm up. Driving range, chipping area(sand and grass) and putting green were beneficial. I played rattler/road runner which offered many challenges. Beautiful, deceptively difficult course that I will never be returning to. The man running the club house seemed somewhat annoyed at my presence, but I could overlook that. Anyone can have a bad day. The real problem at this course are the Rangers, who seem to revel in their positions of "authority." Our party of 4 was set to tee off at 9:00 am. Two of our party were already there when I arrived to the practice tee at 8:40, when the Ranger first decided to scold me for our fourth member not being there yet since, according to him, we were going to tee off in just a couple of minutes. Our fourth member arrived to the practice tee (which is right next to the 1st tee) at 8:50, and before he could even hit once, the Ranger called us up and had us start our tee time 5 minutes early. They then immediately started a twosome behind us! That twosome never really had to wait on us as we actually kept good time (we played best ball), and yet the Ranger had us wait 20 minutes to let them play through. A little later, about hole 12, we saw the ranger hiding in the desert to the left of the fairway to see if he could catch anyone doing anything wrong. He then popped out after we teed off and told us that we had been playing for 4 hours - which we had not, and even if we had, it would only have been because of our being delayed to let the other group through - and people were stacking up, not on us, but on the group lagging BEHIND us, so WE needed to pick up the pace! I've golfed all over the Tucson area, including La Paloma, the Gallery at Dove Mountain, Arizona National, and the like, and I've never been more irritated at such self-important and overbearing course rangers. I pay good money to golf, and I feel that as long as we are abiding by course rules and not holding up other players we should be allowed to enjoy our time out there, not be constantly hassled by course management. Therefore I will not be returning to play this course and will instead go where I feel my time and money are welcome. read more

I'm not sure what these other golfers are talking about. I would read Golf Now for more accurate reviews of this club. This is one of the best courses in Tucson. Up there with Gallery, Ventana, and Omni (Catalina). Recently AZ national got their shiz together and they are in great shape. You can't beat this course for the value and quality. I have played here 40-45 times. It is not that difficult. Go play Dove Mountain to see what difficult is like. Also, do yourself a favor and eat some food at Catalina BBQ when you're done. The Mac and cheese with burnt ends is amazing. We usually play some shuffle board and have a few beers afterwards. read more

Beautiful golf course and friendly staff make for a great golf outing. This is a challenging course with plenty of areas along the way where you can lose a golf ball. The course is well maintained and the practice range is one of the best I've used. The winds were whistling through Starr Pass in the Tucson mountains at over 25 mph today and that turned an already tough course into a monster. Our starter was Mac a friendly Kamaaina from Hilo, Hawaii. Mac served in the US Navy back in the day and we had some good talk story time. He sent us out straight away. This course is in great shape with great fairways and fast greens. There were some brown areas on the edge of the rough but the overseeded fairways were still nice and green. The majestic views here can disarm you. There are long almost blind carries uphill and into a strong wind. There were 3 Javelinas on this course acting as if they owned the place. I doubt if any PGA players would enjoy playing competitive golf on the Rattler. This is a manicured course with lots of bite on the Rattler and Roadrunner nines. They should provide GPS on their carts, they have water on every hole and the cart gal shows up regularly. We never saw any rangers here. Designed by Robert Cupp and Craig Stadler with PGA Tour action in mind, Starr Pass Golf Club is a commanding desert-style layout whose subtle strategies are easier to understand once you've played it a time or two and whose beauty invites you back to do so. Recklessly routed through rocky crags, cacti of all shapes and sizes, and treacherous ravines and arroyos, the real beauty of this popular layout is best seen from the protection of the fairway. This is a tough test of golf that will become easier the more you play it. read more

I played all 27 holes the last 2 days. The course was in perfect condition. The fairways looked like carpet and the greens rolled true. Not only was the course in beautiful condition, but the scenery is beautiful. While on the course, I saw all sorts of wildlife (no snakes this time thankfully). Everything from Road Runners, rabbits, bobcats and even deer. If I'm ever playing golf in Tucson again, I'll want to play here. read more

The course looked good, but upon our arrival we find out there is no water on the course (it's 100+ degrees out still) and the beverage cart has shut down for the day. I understand not having water due to COVID, but failing to make people aware of these things is 1) a potential health hazard and 2) poor customer service. read more

I stay here for my birthday ever year and played the course over 2 dozen times , all different combos. Don't be fooled, by high handicappers who give bad reviews , lose balls, don't fix divot marks on fairways, or ball marks on green. Beautiful course, but terrible customer service in pro shop. "Chico", the employee in the pro shop, was terribly arrogant, and he was seemingly annoyed by my presence. I was looking forward to purchasing sunglasses, polos, etc., but the attitude was just too much; perhaps, "Chico" should be reminded that arrogance and customer service are not a good combination. Maybe I should be thanking him, though, because his terrible attitude scared my wallet shut, and i now have more money to spend elsewhere. read more

A very nice course, challenging without being crazy difficult. Nice staff and wonder maintenance. I'd have given more stars, except my experience with Starr pass has been tainted by their association with TeeOff.com. The idea of TeeOff is great, they repackage tee times that would otherwise go unused for people with flexible schedules. But I found out this is organization uses the business model of the airline industry when it comes to customer service. Be warned, if you use TeeOff, be sure to have a lawyer handy. In my case, they got to keep my money without providing any service. You won TeeOff, good for you. I will still play golf at Starr Pass, but only after booking my tee time directly on the course website. But don't kid yourself, it's nasty organizations like TeeOff that are helping to drive golfers to say: why even bother playing golf? With airlines you have no choice, but with golf, I can do a thousand other things. So really, is it necessary to treat your customers like that? It's no wonder golf is a dying sport. read more

If you want to spend 4 hours stressed out, frustrated and confused go right ahead. I'm a single digit golfer and have played hundreds of courses around the country. This is one of the most unfair and POORLY designed tracks I have ever played. Tee shots that you see no fairway. Blind shots everywhere. Unplayable areas within yards from the landing areas. The layout has no continuity to it. Seriously they could offer me money to play it again and I would not. I hate to be so harsh but with all the really fine courses in the area I think you should avoid this one. read more

The setting for this course is lovely and the course is in great condition, especially the greens. Played the Rattler and Roadrunner 9's. The former is too difficult for the average golfer, even with the yardage books. In fact, the description on the golfarizona.com website says it all designed with PGA tour action in mind. I won't play there again despite the beauty and the top-notch condition. There are too many other courses in the Tucson area, available at similar or better discounts throughout the off-season, to play a course that ruins the enjoyment of golf. First note, I would rate this a 0 out of 5 stars but Yelp requires at least one star. I played a round of golf at the Starr Pass Tucson Arizona Marriott location on Saturday 6/27/2020 at a 1:10pm tee time. This review has nothing to do with the course or play itself but for the complete lack of care and awareness to health concerns around COVID-19 and the golf course's blatant attempt at profiteering off of customers' concerns for their health. I found it to be absolutely appalling for the course to charge an extra $25 on guests that prefer to ride alone in a golf cart. During a time of a global pandemic and the recent surge of positive cases here in Arizona I find this as gross negligence to make extra revenue at the cost of your guests' and their family's health and safety. Every other course in the Tucson area that I have played at has made the option available and often mandated that golfers ride in their own individual carts. On top of this the pro shop employee that I interacted with to register my concern showed a complete lack of empathy and customer service when we interacted. His exact words to me during the course of our interaction were, "If you feel this way well then maybe golf is not for you right now". I could not believe the utter disrespect in those words to me so I walked out. I would suggest more diligence and vetting in your hiring practices to hopefully weed out these folks that show absolutely no empathy or respect for your guests. Needless to say I do not intend on playing at Starr Pass ever again despite it being a fantastic course in the Tucson area. read more

While I was playing the course for my first time there was a minor incident with my equipment there. David Lee, the head PGA Professional there, had no problem fixing the dilemma instantly. Disappointing. Played here this week. To start the rental clubs for women are crap. Not even a real set of irons, they are basically learner clubs. When I asked for different clubs all they had to offer was men's clubs. Which are not that great either. Im addition to the terrible clubs the service sucked. There was no place to get ice, and it was warm. The golf carts were old, no GPS, not even a hole guide and this is a course where you need it. The course itself needs help. Fairways are decent but green are in terrible shape. I lived in Tucson 16 years ago and worked here. I can honestly say this course has gone down hill. Not worth the money or time. I would have rather played one of the Tucson muni courses. Sad to see this course in this shape. As a member of a country club in So. Cal the comparison is a joke. I will not return here. read more

Flew in from east coast, dropped our bags and came directly here. Great BBQ lunch then onto golf. Even though there was no one else there the haughty and rude pro made a big deal that we were early for our tee time but he "would let us go out to the range" (which was included in the greens fees anyway). The only other people we saw on the 27 hole course all day were just finishing at the range when we arrived. The starter asked us to wait while he got them off on the first hole. The course and grounds are stunning and well maintained. The views are awesome. We hit a few balls then the starter took us out. The poor starter is so starved for company that he chatted with us about the area, etc for 15 mins. Still no other groups in sight. We played nine great holes but we were exhausted and still on east coast time. So we asked the self important ass clown in the pro shop if we could return the next day to finish the round - his response: that's not how this works. A bitter blot on an otherwise perfect outting. I just love it when people are impressed with themselves. read more
