The no-brainer restaurant that everyone has no complaints about and is generally okay. I've loved French Baker from the moment I ate their garlic sticks. I used to have them every week, with my mom bringing home some now and then. And for me, French Baker is what started my love affair with Bread Bowl soups. I think theirs was the first Bread Bowl I ever had. Their clam chowder will always be one of my favorites just because it has that special place in my heart. Though flavor-wise, it's hearty, rich, and filled with everything you would want in a chowder. Their lasagna is always a favorite too, with it perfectly layered, and the tomato sauce not too acidic for me. It's warm and comforting, like how pasta should be. I tried out their toffee nut latte (holiday flavor) this Christmas season and it was good the first time (the second time I had it was in another branch in Megamall but I didn't like it, maybe there was something wrong with the mix on the latter). They have a warm and inviting ambience which I think is good for catching up with friends or even off being alone and doing your own stuff. They have two spots in Trinoma, the bigger one at the 4th flr in the Trinoma gardens and one a lot smaller inside on the same floor. Their staff is pretty nice tho I think they serve the orders very slow. I would greatly appreciate if they had a branch at SM North Edsa, cause that's where I mostly am because Trinoma is farther. Toby's Estate excited the hipster in me, and I had to order one of my usuals: a cappuccino. The friend I was with noticed that they had something called a "Bucky" on display. We had to ask the barista what it was out of curiosity. Apparently, a bucky was something like a Fudgee Bar. It's what you get from a cake, fudge, and brownie threesome. My friend and I bought the original bucky and ate it together with my cappuccino (no need for sugar now!) Though small, Toby's Estate has that calming aura that invites you to pause and sit for a moment. I haven't been there since. I'm hoping to come back again for more of the original buckies!

It's clean white subway-ish tiled walls give off that instantly chic vibe, too, so even if you aren't familiar with Toby's, you'll be drawn in. Ended up with their single-origin pour-over--Ethiopian this time--and it was bright, juicy, and perfectly balanced, like every sip reminded me why I fell in love with coffee in the first place. Sat by the window watching the rain hammer Pasong Tamo, worked on my laptop for hours with zero pressure to leave. The space is still that perfect mix of raw concrete and warm light, never too crowded, always calm. Staff remembered my usual order even though it's been months since I last dropped by. Situated on a super industrial part of Pasong Tamo (though gentrification is very real and will probably make its way here very soon), it's kind of out of the way compared to most third wave coffee spots. There's a lot of exposed concrete and metal, making the place very Instagram worthy. There are also outlets, wifi, and pretty large tables so getting some work done here is definitely possible. I just wish the seats were more supportive. The coffee is amazing! I believe Yardstick sourced a lot of their coffee while I was there. Their mocha and Americano are great. Not too bitter. The only downside I have is the clientele was a little snooty. The staff, however, was great.
