Great service, friendly door staff, solid food and drinks for a club, and attracts some great headliners to Bloomington!

What a great and intimate venue! We came and saw Jiaoying Summers over the weekend and did the whole meet and greet through VIP tickets. It was great, we actually sat right in front as well. The drinks were pretty yummy, i got a beer for $7 and then cocktails ranged from $12-$15. There is a minimum of 2 items and that can be drinks, food or merch if I remember correctly. You can line up outside before they open and all the way up the stairs. The bathrooms were very clean so that is very much appreciated. I have a new appreciation for comedy so let's support businesses like these and see some comedy shows!!! read more

I have never laughed so hard as I did at the Ashton Womack show. We were seated really quickly right when we got in. I was nervous because you are really close to other people, similar to other comedy shows. We didn't end up having people on the other side of us, so that was nice. It's very small in the attic, so you feel tight knit, which made it more fun. All of the comedians were so funny and the servers were great getting drinks out. They even have speakers in the bathroom so you can hear the show even if you have to go! They have thought of the whole guest experience for sure. We wish we had gone here sooner and we will be recommending this place to everyone! read more

I came here on a Friday night, tickets were available and glad I snagged one while I could even last minute. The headliners that performed here before the main show were pretty funny, but I didn't get a chance to write them down since you can't use your phone during the show. Michael Ian Black was somewhat funny, he had some lame over drawn jokes like the subway story, but overall, it was a great experience. I had some wine, so unsure if food is served here, but they were nicely chilled and satisfying. Will come back when in the area. read more

Saw my first ever show at the Comedy Attic over the weekend. I really liked the venue and had a great time. We were in line early, so had excellent seats. Staff was welcoming and our server was great. COVID safety precautions are in place, but not over the top. And honestly, I am good with the club having a high level of COVID precautions. Good beer choices on tap. We had a pitcher of beer and some sides, like fries, chips and salsa, and popcorn. Only two things kept me from going five stars: The sound system was so loud it was a bit distorted for the warm up acts. The table (for four) was too small for four people to eat and drink comfortably. Looking forward to returning soon. We are so lucky to have a good comedy venue in Bloomington! read more

This venue is so much fun and I'm so glad to see them thriving in the face of the pandemic. My four friends and I went out for a girls night to see Nikki Glaser and were not disappointed! The venue was cute and intimate and Corona procedures were put well in place with masks being required, reduced capacity and social distancing. On this 12th anniversary show, we were wowed by both the ambiance of the venue and speed of the weight staff. I highly recommend this venue to fans of comedy and those looking for a fun and safe night! read more

The comedy was good but I doubt I will go back. Everyone else is easing up on mask and they aren't. I understand wearing mask and don't have a problem with it but while you're eating and drinking you have to wear it in between bites and drinks and they run up on you if you don't pull it up while you're chewing. Even so that wasn't a deal breaker. You add with it a snarky politically flavored video to explain their mask policies then it was too much. So in the video he was all cocky saying if you don't like it follow the exit signs. Their business their rules I respect that. However I did find the exit signs and I won't be returning. read more

The absolute best way to get a pick me up is to spend a night at this amazing club. Open mic night on Wednesday is a great way to spend a night with some friends, or go see a show on the weekend for a fun date! The food here is really great comfort food--most of (if not all) the choices are fried in some way or another, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The fried pickles are really great, the breading is nice and crisp (not soggy like some pickles) and has good texture, plus the pickles are juicy without being messy. The beer and drink list is pretty standard, nothing too special but you can find your favorite domestics and some imports as well as spirits and wine. There's also a boozy root beer float which sounds like it'd be worth a try! Come out and get some laughs and yummy fried food for your 2 item minimum at this small town gem!! read more

The Comedy Attic is one of my favorite places in Bloomington. Not only are the comics hilarious (local and "famous" alike), but the staff and club in general are so special. I've been going to the Comedy Attic for 13 years at this point, and I have never seen a more caring group of people anywhere within the US. Especially now that COVID has hit, and people in Bloomington seem to think that since we're a year into the pandemic we don't need to wear masks anymore, the Comedy Attic is one of the only places in Bloomington I truly feel safe to hang out and relax a bit since this has all went down. Masks are required at all times (as the awesome door people will say- unless you're actively taking a bite to eat or a drink), and I truly wouldn't have it any other way. If you're not wearing your mask, the staff will ask you to put it back on, so as to keep the other audience members safe, and feeling just as comfortable as possible. The service is great. The comedy is great. The community that the Comedy Attic has created within a larger community is great. I would highly suggest this club to anyone who doesn't mind to wear a mask, and can take a joke! If not, this may not be the place for you. :) read more

The Comedy Attic is my home away from home. This small venue has introduced me to well-known comedy stars and cutting edge performers that are on their way to stardom. I appreciate the club's efforts to find talent from underrepresented communities in comedy. The food and drinks are decent It's best to keep your drink order simple. It's not a bar and you are not there for the cutting edge cocktails. IMHO the best thing on the menu is the bacon grilled cheese. Used to be the jalapeño poppers, but sadly they are gone. (Yes JT, I will never get over this) Lastly, I want to thank the staff for their efforts during Covid. Their strict policies on mask wearing, distancing, cleaning, etc. made the Attic the only place in town I was comfortable during the crises. Thanks guys! read more

Fun venue, great acts, but this place is NOT ADA accessible at all. I had tickets to a show and a month before the show I broke both of my legs. I called ahead (several times) trying to make arrangements and originally I felt like they were working with me. But by the week of the show I didn't really have any arrangements made and the only advice I could get from the owner(?) was to show up an hour early and stand in line (lol????) and be first in line so that I could take my time going up the stairs. When I told him I couldn't stand for an hour he told me I could sit on the concrete steps outside, and he told me they couldn't "break the rules" and allow me to use any sort of back entrance to avoid the crowd or anything like that. I also asked if I could come during the day sometime and check out the stairs to see if I could handle them with my casts and crutches and they said no. I was told that because it's a historic building they can't put in an elevator or any sort of ADA accommodations. Anyway, I would have given 5 stars otherwise, but I felt like a massive burden trying to see my favorite comedian in my condition and that kind of ruined the experience in a lot of ways. read more

Marc Maron said it best when he referred to The Comedy Attic as the "Comedy Mecca". I ALWAYS recommend this place to anyone coming to Bloomington. My husband and I have seen over 20-shows in the past few years and have yet to see a bad act. The comedian line-up is nothing short of amazing, the stage is perfectly lit and the set-up of the room makes for a uniquely intimate experience. The staff have always been very kind and accommodating and the drink/food prices are VERY fair (there is a 2-item minimum which is the standard at most comedy clubs). This place should not be rated less than five stars by anyone. There are more than a few regulars, and with good reason. This place brings in some great acts, which is not easy to do for B-town. They often have great deals, too. If you go to a show, you can get a coupon for reduced price or free tickets to some upcoming shows on occasion. They just got their own kitchen up and running, and can deep fry any darn thing you want. One of the highlights is a grilled PB&J which got a hearty thumbs up from my wife. I'm not brave enough to try it. The seating is very snug, but it works. The shows are terrific, and comedians say it's a perfect room for comedy. If you'r lucky, you'll get to see Brad emcee, and if you haven't been before, you'll get to learn his rules for enjoying a great comedy show. Sad to say that I had never been to The Comedy Attic before, but was stoked to see that Tiffany Haddish would be performing most of the weekend. I was blown away that they were bringing such a rising star to BTown, but once I was inside the venue and saw all the posters for the folks who've graced The Comedy Attic stage, this place is pretty much legendary. Tiffany Haddish was AMAZING and so was one of her opening acts. I forgot her name, but she was hilarious. The MC was ok and one of his jokes just sent me into a bad space. It was just so offensive to me, but it is what it is. Service was a bit slow. My cheese sticks were meh, but who comes to a comedy club expecting exceptional food, so I didn't really care. They have to make there money somehow. The Meet & Greet was well organized and appreciated! The wait staff took forever and a day to bring back our credit cards. A lot of us were super anxious to get in line for the meet and greet, but one of the staffers was stuck trying to get all of the cards out alone. She was so sweet and trying so hard. Initially, I had an issue with my ticket and the guy was uber helpful and responsive. I was really impressed. All in all, I had a GREAT experience. This place is now on my radar and I can't wait to go back. read more

This is easily my favorite comedy venue in the country. There are great acts that come through here, and they feel more comfortable being improvosational. It is the polar opposite of seeing a show in an arena, where the beats are planned like rigid clockwork. The sight lines are wonderful. The crowd behaves (much because of the house rules). If you are a comedy nerd in the Midwest, you need to come here for a show. I say all this as a specific type of comedy fan. I am inwardly pretentious and snobby about my comedy views. I like small venues and comedians who play with form, style, and cadence. I like it meta. It may not be your cup of tea, but it has ruined my opinion of other comedy venues. read more

The owners and staff of The Comedy Attic have been an asset to our community since they opened. So it is no surprise to me that there are protocols in place to protect the comedians, the staff and the customers. The care is apparent when you see the comedians perform there. You can just tell by their sets that they love performing there. Newcomers might balk at the rules of the venue, but they allow me to relax and enjoy the show. And I find that when I see shows at other venues, I wish they had the same rules. read more

Food good for a comedy venue, and reasonable pricing. Very good comedy. Very close quarters, which makes for an intimate setting, and didn't feel crowded even though sold out. You have to sit with strangers, which can make or break your night, but as fate would have it, we got placed with a great couple. Very strange interaction when the comedian asked about a city in Kentucky that our table mate was from. I think he never would have assumed anyone was from there, but she was, and I could verify, as she had told us that as soon as we got to talking. Naturally, comedian heard us laughing that of all places to name, he chose her town. He asked her a question and initiated the conversation with her. Very quickly, a manager came to our table and admonished her for speaking out. The comedian was the one talking to her about her hometown, and she was not being disrespectful, she was actually funny. I don't understand what that whole exchange was about, as we agreed with her husband that the manager was out of line. It's not heckling when the star himself asks a customer to elaborate on a town in Kentucky. Another table upset by political jokes and using the term "Nazi" left early. For these reasons, there are other places to enjoy comedy, and we will support those in the future. read more

Really cool place and it was a lot of fun but they denied my friend from ordering alcohol when he is 21 and they asked him for 2 different forms of photo id and he didn't have and so they refused to serve him. Kinda made the night just have a different vibe. They still made him order two things on the menu even after denying him when he was 21. We even called the manager over and he didn't do anything. Just really hard to see myself going back after that. It was a fun place though. read more

Man I love this place! Hands down one of the best date options in Bloomington or anywhere. They deliver some of the best comedians nationwide to our cute little college town. Idk how they do it, but they do time and time again. The seating is intimate and it feels like you're hanging with a bunch of your friends, including whoever's holding the mike. They teach the audience to be polite, respectful, and laugh, just as any good comedic audience should. And the talent they bring is smart and funny in all the right ways. And also maybe just a smidge not afraid to offend haha. There's local food and drink, and you'll only get made fun of a little if you're on Whole30 so you order coffee instead of beer. They make a big to do about tipping the servers well and treating them with respect - as they should. This is a Bloomington institution and I sure am glad to have them around. read more

Comedy Attic is always a great place to check out any Thursday through Saturday regardless of the comic on the line-up. If you've never been the venue itself is smaller and the chairs and tables are set up to accommodate as many people as possible. It's a comfortable setting but be prepared to possibly share a table if you are in a small party. It's best to arrive early to ensure a great table too and if you prefer not to be right next to the stage the staff will accommodate any request. The staff is always friendly and they work incredibly quickly to fill drink and food orders through out the show. Many staff members have been there for years and seem to be passionate to work there. There is a 2 item minimum but if you're not in the mood to drink you can get a bottled water and popcorn for only a few dollars and most menu items and beverages are reasonably priced. We've been to Comedy Attic many times over the years and have always had positive experiences all around! The Comedy Attic always brings in world class comics and it truly is a gem to the Bloomington community. We are lucky to have one of the best rated comedy clubs in the country! read more

I came here for the first time Saturday night. What a great deal for entertainment. Our tickets were $12 each for three comedians. At the end of the night, my face literally hurt from laughing. The beer selection is great, and I heard they have food but I didn't see anyone eating. (although the people sitting next to us had delicious smelling popcorn). I come here every week and I love it! Every week the owner books a fantastic feature and headliner. I've never had a bad time here. The drink menu is great and offers top shelf liquor, wine and craft beer for reasonable prices. This is one of the best spots for entertainment in Bloomington and I am very happy this place exists in such a small city. It truly is a rare find. I like supporting the privately owned business. I love "the Comedy Attic" because they book comedians I want to see! I have to drive 2 1/2 hours from Cincinnati when I want to go, so unfortunately I have to be selective and it kills me. But what can I do? The places closer to me don't book acts I want to see! Lots of live comedy podcast tapings here too which is so great! I have one of those jobs where I just listen to Podcasts all day long so I'm grateful this place exists to check out some of this stuff live. Also, everytime I've been there the staff has been really nice and the crowds have been good too! I've been to a lot of comedy clubs and i've sat next to some real shitty people. Never had a problem at the "Comedy Attic" though. its like the crowds are on the same wavelength as me. Aware appreciative comedy fans. So yeah, I will absolutely give this place 5 out of 5 since my only gripe is that this place isn't closer to me. Guess thats more my fault than theirs though, huh? read more

There are times when you just need to laugh. This is definitely the place to go! I suspect that this is hands down the best comedy club anywhere in the Midwest! First off the room is intimate and just right for a comedy club. Not a bad seat in the house. You actually feel like you are having a conversation with the comedians. (and often times you are). Best part the comedians even though they will sometimes engage individuals in the audience, I've never seen them "pick" on anyone. Also heckling is forbidden in this club which is great. It's a perfect recipe for fun. Then the comedians themselves. Wow! Anybody whose anybody is here. I mean really, you just wouldn't think that a city as small as Bloomington, as wonderful as it is, would attract the big names. But come they do! Marc Maron , Paul Riser, and I just saw on the schedule, David Koechner. On and on it goes. Last but not least the food and wait staff. Great bar type food and a very attentive wait staff. This place has always been amazing. From the acts, to the staff, to the intimate space to share laughs. This is also one of the only places I attended indoors during the pandemic due to their protocols and procedures. Not only safer than most indoor establishments, but they provide that level of comfort and safety for all of us customers, the staff, and the performers. Masks are still a county requirement indoors at least until the end of the month and the way they implement their use, in an indoor space like a comedy club, is absolutely commendable. We know indoor spaces are a higher risk and we know they are even higher when folks are eating and drinking because of the inability to mask when doing that (or the fact people just take them off the entire time they are sitting and 'eating' or 'drinking'). So putting them on between eating is safer and really the way it should be done. Laughing generates aerosols too, and we had plenty of laughs that night, behind our masks. I will gladly wear a thin piece of fabric or cloth over my face to protect myself and others. There are still over 1k cases a day in the state and this is the height of the entire pandemic globally. We now have more transmissible variants, which make masks even more important. We also have vaccines, which will make going to the Comedy Attic even a greater experience than before! If you don't want to wear masks anymore or knock a business for following a local health order, then perhaps go get vaccinated. We cannot wait to come back for more laughs, more beers, and maybe some cheese fries in the near future! read more

I can't say enough great things about The Comedy Attic and it's owner/operator Jared Thompson. The Comedy Attic has the best national and local comedians around. Tonight we are going to see Roy Wood, Jr, arguably one of the funniest comedians working today. Jared also encourages local comics and has showcased talented little known comics who later became famous. Jared has an unerring eye for great talent. Going to The Comedy Attic is always a pleasure. The comics are sublime, the food reasonably priced, the wait staff quick and pleasant, and the atmosphere friendly and inclusive.
