Well, you get one good hair cut and one bad hair cut. Good thing hair grows back, the draw back is I have to wear a hat for weeks, thank goodness I work from home. And just to clarify, my first visit was exactly how I wanted it. The second visit was a complete train wreck. I went in for a trim/clean up around the sides and back and a little off the top. I have or had a side part with long hair to leaving with a flat top with short hair. Like I'm ready to join the military. The cut is awful. Guess I'm going back to my old stylist to fix this train wreck. Now I need 4-6 months to grow back to its previous length. This cut ranks as one of the worst I've had in a long time. read more

The price keeps climbing and the quality continues to decline. When you walk in, you're pretty much invisible to the staff. You'll want to hunt down the person you have an appointment with only to find him sitting in the barber chair on his phone. Prepare yourself for a wild conversation about his run ins with the law, his drug of choice, and blow by blow account of most recent breakup. When you're finished, you pay (and pause in horror because you realize you just paid $85 with tip for a horrible experience) and run to your car. When you get home you look in the mirror and see how jacked your cut was and you start calling around to find someone to fix your mess. This is hands down the best barber shop I've been to. Bon has been giving me very clean and precise haircuts since I started going last year. Best skin fades I've ever received. The price is objectively high when you consider you could get your hair cut for half the price at other places, but I think it's justified for the clean environment, quality and high attention to detail the of cut, and staff friendliness. As a plus, there's free soda and beer you can drink while getting your cut which is very nice, especially after a long day. I am now a regular and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. The only real criticism I have regarding the quality of the haircut is that I feel they could clean out the small hairs that get trapped in your ear better after a fade. read more

I've had the privelege to visit both locations of the Commodore--Westside & Chamblee. I cannot express how amazing both staffs are, and more so, how amazing my experiences have been at each. Nowadays after my move, I will rarely be visiting the Chamblee location--but if you plan to visit Chamblee, I highly recommend booking with Anna Marie. My go-to every time at Westside, however, is Aaron. PS, he's also quite the coffee aficionado. Always a great conversation, w/ an eye and skillset that's second to none. This is the barbershop your old barbershop wished it was. The environment was top-notch, and the barber I had was not necessarily rushing, but I was the last client of the day, so could feel the closing time pressure. The barber capes with the neoprene seal were a great touch as well. I've only seen them in the UK until now. Also, I've been rocking this baby mullet that can pass in the office, and the barber did a great job keeping it clean. I'm writing this review over a month later and I can say what separates barbers are guys that can keep your hair looking good even after 2 weeks away from the shop. Unfortunately, I have to rate my beard trim an overall "meh". I've had trouble over the years giving myself an even trim, but even more hesitant to pay someone to do it, in fear of still receiving an uneven trim. I went into this hoping to get a little advice on some of my trouble areas but a lot of time I felt the response was "yeaaa, beards can be tough" and I just didn't get quite the beard experience that had been touted by others I know who have tried Commodore. When I got home, I had to do some follow up cleaning as the mustache was left messy and the jaw lines weren't trimmed evenly, so I had to even them out myself. There is also an obvious chunk taken out of the right side where the sideburn meets the jaw line that is not on the left side. Almost the kind of chunk that makes you want shave the beard off, but I am just going to grow through it (not ideal). It wasn't a bad experience, the barber was friendly, but when you pay for a beard trim, you should walk out confident and proud and I honestly was not :/ read more

Came and visited the new location because I all but stalked them on Instagram (go follow them) and saw that a new barber was guest barbering. I really liked the photos of her work--loved it--but didn't want to go see her, love her, then she leave and I have to find (another) new barber. So once I saw they brought Emma on full time, I booked. (Rob's work is amazing too, don't ever doubt that. He was just always booked out so far and I was hopping around other barbers trying them out as well.) That being said...I've found my barber. Emma is awesome! She's nice, talks to you (and is actually having a convo, not just doing the "uh huh" stuff) but not too much to where she stops her craft. She really listens to what you want and asks questions to make sure you're getting exactly that. Rob made a great choice asking her to stay and Emma made a great choice by wanting to stay. They're a perfect duo. The space itself is so cool. You can tell everything was customized to create this really cool vintage/modern/clean-cut/marine theme. They have beverages in a cooler including beer, water, soda, and coffee. (Not sure if there's an extra charge for alcohol). There's merch to buy from other businesses with prices on some of it but not all. I hope the commodore gets a shirt with their logo on it. I'd buy it. My hair is difficult to handle because it's thick, rough, and curly, but Rob is probably the best barber I've experienced that knows how to deal with my hair. Rob has a vision of style about your hair and he will bring that vision to life once he is done with the cut. Rob's shop is a hidden gem. I found it online after my company relocated to Norcross and instantly felt the artsy vibes, and loved the attention to detail and explanation of the different packages on the site. The shop itself has really cool custom/repurposed furniture, great styling, and good music. It's cozy, but bright with high ceilings, and it's completely remodeled and decked out. The chairs are comfy too! Having a Sweetwater brew or just a coke while you wait is a nice touch. I've had two cuts from Rob so far and plan to keep going back. He does an excellent job and I take his advice every time. Haven't been unhappy with my look and doubt I will be even if we switch up what we do at some point. I came here after being a monthly walk-in customer at Alpharetta Barber Shop for 8 months, and while the price is almost double at Commodore, I personally feel it's extremely worth it for a barber who treats your head like a work of art he's creating, rather than getting a hastily done clipper job you regret the next morning. I do tend to space out my haircuts more than I did in the past at this price point, but that's my problem, not everyone's. Don't wait until the last minute, because as word is getting around you may have to wait a day or two to get on the schedule, but that's the beauty of this place: it's all personalized attention.
