Great coffee has come to Streatham!…read more Having lived in Streatham Hill for three years, I was delighted to stroll past the interesting looking Brooks&Gao. With its industrial look and simple menu, the small eatery looks like it would be more at home in a Hoxton street than Streatham High Road! I was delighted to first sample their coffee - a robust and strong tasting latte with some impressive coffee art to boot. I have been back on numerous occasions, taking various people along with me to sample "the best sandwiches in Streatham." One particular favourite of mine is the rare roast beef focaccia with a horseradish Mayo. The breakfasts are slightly on the expensive side and I've had a few raised eyebrows from companions at the cost of the eggs and asparagus dish - around £8. There is an amazing selection of sweet treats and it's different every time you go in. A particular favourite was the cinnamon swirl pastry which was probably the BEST cinnamon swirl I've ever eaten. Hat's off to that. Both Brooks and Gao and their small team of friendly faces are very efficient and helpful. It's always a pleasure to visit!

Both breakfasts came out quickly and were deliiiiicious. The iced lattes were also yummy despite a couple of white bits floating around. We sat outside to enjoy the sun even though inside looked really cool with plugs everywhere for phones and laptops. They also have a book corner with some sofas for when it gets chillier. A well thought out place. Overall a great coffee place which I can't wait to return to. I do hope they stay open. Streatham hill needed this sort of cafe.

There are no croissants or similar - how can of: have coffee without these is a mystery to me - and the only sweet options are some slices of different types of cakes (also pretty expensive). On the positive side, it's a good place to work from and it provides wi-fi.

I had the shakshuka Benedict, which was pretty good, and my husband had the Korean style chicken and pancakes, which was also very good. There were little things missing, like syrup with the pancakes, when it so desperately needed that sweet touch, and a deeper flavor with the tomato sauce in the shakshuka. Again, very minor things keeping it from being 5 stars. At one point, in true Midwestern fashion, I said "ope," which our waitress thought was the funniest thing (in the most endearing way!), and that made me really love her. As others have said, service is swift and efficient rather than friendly, and the tea comes with milk (unless you ask otherwise), though the tea bag gave a nice strong mug of tea.
