Great place to grab a quick breakfast. Definitely not the same as American style breakfasts. It is but it isn't if you know what I mean. The English diet seems to be very similar to the American: Eggs, meat and potatoes. I got the 2 egg, double sausage and double bacon breakfast. Super delicious! Very huge portions for the price. Also comes with hash browns, beans, mushrooms and tomatoes! And comes with a coffee as a bonus! The service was also prompt and attentive. Super nice people that work here. Also fast and quick. You just can't beat this place - it's an absolute 5 star winner for me!! I've been here more than a few times and pretty much everything about the place keeps me coming back. Plonked right by Clapham Junction station, Jack's at the Junction is a great stop -off on your way to and from a train. Honestly, it's a great stop-off whenever, but I've mended a fair few hangovers en route to a long train journey in here. The food...oh the food! The first thing to say is that you should go in here with an appetite. If you're just after a piece of toast or a little bowl of muesli, go somewhere else. It would be almost disrespectful to come in here without a rumbling stomach... There's every kind of breakfast imaginable in here - pancakes, full cooked, eggs coked in every possible way! It's basically a breakfast-lover's heaven. I have sampled many thing in here but the Double - a simple, but massive cooked breakfast - is one of my favourites. There's so much space to go wrong with a full-cooked breakfast; too many aspects to get right and too many opportunities to stumble and fall. Jack's does not stumble and fall... Every part of the Double is as tasty as the next - all packed with flavour and cooked to perfection. To top it off, there's unlimited coffee (which is great because it makes you feel like you're in NYC) and I got a juice as part of my breakfast, which was lovely! The pancakes, too, are big fluffy piles of delight. I've witnessed the eggs florentine sampled as well and, though eggs are not my breakfast of choice, I am told these were spot on too. The atmosphere is great in here - it's always packed and sometimes you end up squeezed onto a table with other people. This maybe isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I love it. Jacks is without a doubt my favourite place to have breakfast. We always arrive early as I'm not a huge fan of sharing a table in the morning and it can get a little crowded in there. The breakfast is gross value for money and isn't dripping in grease. Nothing is over cooked or feels as though it has been sat around. Honestly have no bad words to say about the food. For breakfast this is a great little place, offering a selection of American diner staples, located on Lavender Hill and just a two minute swagger away from Clapham Junction. It is faithful to the American diner breakfast experience not only in terms of the breakfast dishes on offer - corned beef hash, eggs benedict (with variations), french toast, pancakes, bottomless coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice (it always stuns me that we British tolerate the awful ersatz alternative) - but also insofar as it is very reasonably priced (all dishes less than £7 I think) and doesn't take pains to dress itself up self-consciously as an authentic American diner (so no misplaced candy stripes or polished Arizona licence plates). I had the corned beef hash with poached eggs, which was wonderful and I actually liked the unusual addtion of a little carrott. My companion had a full breakfast with french toast, which he heartily enjoyed. The placed was packed on a Saturday morning but we still got a table and the service was, though a little muddled, was never less than friendly and enthusiastic. I haven't been yet for lunch, but the salad menu did appeal. In short, it's everything i've been waiting for - a cheap, cheerful American diner a stone's throw from where I live and that is a genuine restaurant rather than a marketing ploy. read more

I hate Clapham. I really hate it. I could write thousands and thousands of words about it. But I'll spare you the detail in case you live there and think it's brilliant. (It's not). The trouble is, I have to go there pretty regularly, for band rehearsals. This time around, I thought I'd numb the pain a bit with a decent breakfast. We had an early morning rehearsal booked in so I thought I'd yelp somewhere for breakfast. Jack's came up, so off I went. Jack's has a solid menu of half Brit, half-Yank fare. I had the Benedict (as part of my ongoing Eggs Benedict in London mission) and it was absolutely fine for the money. The hollandaise was great and the eggs perfectly runny. The filter coffee wasn't bad either. So my advice is, if you find yourself in the cultural desert of Clapham Junction, you could do loads worse than popping into Jack's for some comfort food. read more

Nava and I decided to go to Jack's on a warm Sunday morning. We show up, it looks kinda cool, the food seems super diner-y, which as Americans we kind of dig. We wait in the queue. They ask us if we mind sharing a table. We don't, but the table they wanted to seat us at was wedged in front of a bit of wall that was jutting out, and I knew there was no way the two of us were going to fit there. So we waited a bit longer. This time they sat us at a table with a couple of Scottish guys. Wedged into the corner again. So don't expect a lot of room. There isn't. In fact, the tables and chairs are so close to each other it's awkward. Nava had the corned beef hash with juice, and I had the Yankee Doodle Dandy with coffee. Now they claim to serve unlimited coffee. First, the coffee is terrible. Second, there's no way to get refills as the servers NEVER COME BACK TO YOUR TABLES. Don't expect unlimited coffee like you get in the states. It's not like that at all. The food was mediocre. The french toast was pretty bad. White bread barely dredged through eggs so it was a bit dry in the middle. The American pancakes, while fluffy and light, were overcooked on the outside and almost burnt. My fried eggs were hard and overcooked. The corned beef (probably from a can) had the wrong beef-to-potato ratio. There were probably eight bits of potato in it. It really needed a lot of work. It was an unpleasant dining experience all around. At least it was cheap. I assume that British people like it because there's a queue, but for me not at all worth the wait. read more

Best American pancakes I have had in London!!! We ended up at a sunny table outside. The service was fast and friendly and the food delicious! I got the Yankee, which was two pancakes, 2 bacon, and eggs. It also came with OJ which was perfect for the hangover. The eggs were light and fluffy and the bacon was huge! The pancakes were delish as well. Could have done with some more syrup, but I was so full by the time I finished my first pancake that the syrup size worked out perfectly. I love Jack's. They give you everything you could possibly want when you are a) hungover b) tired and c) hungry, as in could eat a horse hungry. The food is served really quickly, there is a good choice of condiments, it's always busy and the portion sizes are huge, especially if you venture to get the double (a real man sized breakfast if ever I saw one). The service is really good, they will chop and change bits of the menu if you ask and it's pretty much a great little place for greasy breakfasts. Yep we went again within a week of discovering the place. Giving it a 5 star rating as they have the best service experience in London. This time for lunch with root beer, however we slipped up and ordered breakfast again as it is so darn good! Eggs Benedict was delicious with eggs cooked just right and a pleasant amount of hollandaise sauce. I love that it always comes with hash browns: it has been a permanent struggle to get a side of hash browns with breakfast in London (without it costing an additional £3 etc), so this really was a revelation to me. And all for about £7.00! What's not to love about that?! There's no frills or pretensions - expect to queue a bit, squeeze in wherever there's space and cosy-up with other brunchers. If you're looking for a proper diner in London, Jack's is about as close as you're going to get. I came for a late breakfast on Sunday, and the place was heaving. The little floor space was crammed full of tables, all of which were occupied at all times. Brusque servers, quick-service food, clanking cutlery, elbowing your neighbours, unlimited filter coffee, pay at the till, cheap prices - diner. The food runs the gamut in terms of country of origin. Something to note: American pancakes are on offer, although they're a little less fluffy and a bit more dense than you might expect. Also, order them with some butter on the side, because they won't come with it. Overall, the place has a good buzz about it. And you can't really argue with an enormous plate full of breakfast food for £6.50, which includes your coffee (or tea, if you must). read more

I came here for lunch when in the area as I'd heard good things. We were there at the weekend & it was busy, but we managed to get a seat straight away with the caveat that if another couple came into eat, they'd be sharing our table with us. Weird. Thankfully nobody did. The prices are good for the amount of food you are given. I had a veggie breakfast, and it was tasty. I didn't have a hangover, but if I did, this would be the perfect hangover busting food. The menu is extensive so lots for you to choose from, including more american breakfast/brunch options which I am sure are very popular. The guys cooking behind the counter were super friendly and smiley which I enjoy. Would come back, and recommend for hearty portions of food at reasonable prices. read more

I'm sorry to say that I cannot recommend this restaurant. It has bad food, bad service and even worse coffee. Stay away. Okay... I am sorry. I am just trying to keep you away from my favourite breakfast place in London. It gets quite crowded and if I say it's good... you will go and crowd it up too.. just like everyone else. Oh yes, also, the food is BIG. Look, it's good. Everything is good. I've had benedicts, omelettes, Yankee Doodles, Yankee Doodle Dandees, french toast, bacon, toast, salmon, spinach, coffee, orange juice, potatoes... but my favourite is the corned beef hash. Oy vay. I refuse to try anything off the lunch menu as I think that would just start me onto a downward spiral where I am always in this establishment. It would become my addiction and they would have to, at some point, ask me politely to leave. So, if you really need to go, then go. I can't stop you. I finally found a place that does proper fluffy American pancakes in London - The Yankie Doodle! You have the choice of pancakes or french toast or if you have a big appetite can get both with the Yankie Doodle Dandy. They're pretty relaxed so they're happy to switch out any of the items but I think there is a charge if you change more than 1. I usually go for the breakfast spread but always get food envy. The salads and sandwiches look amazing and the best is that everything is pretty cheap. I wish I had 2 stomachs to eat everything I want! read more

Excellent pancakes, excellent coffee, and excellent service - I had to roll in with a big suitcase that they kindly let me put at the side (minimizing everyone's stress). My caff of choice on Lavender Hill, this is a pretty new cafe, serving a wide range of breakfasts, roasts, sandwiches, soup and potatoes to an interesting mix of locals, aspiring artistes on their way to the Battersea Arts Centre, and hi-viz. My normal is the Double (fried, chips, no mushrooms, no beans, extra brown toast, and a tea, please). A nice touch is bottomless tea and coffee. As Clapham has a reputation for a great night out it is only fair for Clapham to also have great hangover cures! Jacks do sell sandwiches and the like but I went for a proper english breakfast. They have lots of different options or you can just pick your own. Baked beans, eggs, bacon, sausages- the works. I have a very small stomach but I managed to eat all my breakfast, was so nice! It is a popular place but the staff are very efficient and hard working so you never have to wait long. They are also very efficient withtheir space so also the cafe is relatively small you can still find a table for you and your friends. Only reason not giving 5/5 is because I had to ask for my coffee refill. This said, the coffee was great. read more

Well located 2 minutes from Clapham Junction station, Jacks Cafe is the perfect cure for a weekend hangover. Good service, good ingredients (except the OJ wasn't squeezed) and proper American pancakes with maple syrup (so hard to find this side of the river!). Sadly, no streaky crispy bacon (what a shame It's a Yankee b'fast!) but I'll ask if it's possible to get it next time I visit. Rather cheap as well. Wide range of breakfasts - classic English (in 3 different sizes), American-style (with French toast or pancakes), healthy (yoghurt and fruit) and more (Eggs Benedict, Florentine etc) 3. Excellent value for money - last time I was there it cost us £12 for two (including tea, coffee and an orange juice) 4. Friendly staff Only (small) downside is that it's quite busy on Sunday mornings and you can't book (so not good if there are more than 4 of you), but I've been twice with just one other person and been seated straight away. Comfortably crowded most weekends. Jack's is the best place in London to get an American breakfast. They're a little pricey but fresh juices, amazing bacon and beautiful American pancakes make it completely worthwhile. They'll even let you mix and match English and American breakfast components to create an amazing breakfast hybrid. Staff is great, service is fast and they'll give you as much syrup as you can soak into your pancakes. I can't recommend Jack's highly enough for any Americans needing a taste of home! I'd just like to point out... every time I go I struggle with the massive dilemma of whether to go for a full English, or whether to get buttermilk pancakes. This is the BEST place for hangover breakfast! Great value, breakfasts come with bottomless tea or coffee included, and the choice (and portions) is huge!! It is a bit crowded, but due to the number of tables the queue moves fast. I've been three times and not had to sit downstairs yet so I'm not sure what that's like. Jacket potatoes to die for, literally these things are so huge they could kill you. You can get a jacket potato at most cafes, but the jackets at Jack's are massive! These spuds are on steroids and they are seriously overloaded with goodness. I love the classic bean and cheese and for less than £5 it's a bargain. I really wanted to like this place, always up for supporting local business and the write ups were really good. While it was a passable brunch, my French toast more closely resembled eggy bread, and basic eggy bread at that.
