I stayed at The Mill Hotel for my trip to Madison, WI. Due to all hotels being outside my price…read morerange downtown, The Mill really fit the bill when it came to price point, amenities, and convenience. The Mill Hotel is located in a quaint town about 15 minutes from the airport and about 25 minutes from downtown Madison, WI in the town of Waunakee. On your way into town from the airport you'll notice you're in farm country and a developing small town that has the charm of a Hallmark movie. There is no regular check-in desk for this hotel, but you will receive a text/email with how to get into the building, your room, etc. So if you're looking for a traditional hotel experience, this may not be for you, BUT if you're looking for some peace and quiet, away from the big city, this is for you. One thing I will mention is that this hotel is pretty new, so they're still working out some kinks, as I didn't receive my email/text until later, but I did email them and text and they replied quickly. You can try to request an earlier check-in, but because this is a mom and pop situation, you're probably going to be checking in closer to the 3pm check-in time. Because I was dropped off by my rideshare earlier in the day and far before check-in, I wound up heading to Grace Coffee which is located and connected on the lower level of The Mill. Convenience wise, you can't beat it. When it was time for check-in I headed upstairs and noticed a cute little seating area and walked down the hallway to find my room. You'll notice a smaller coffee bar with k-cups and a Keurig machine,. Then you'll see a seating area with leather couches and a glass fireplace. I was in room 206, which was super cute. It def looked farmhouse-chic, with a navy accent wall, emerald green velvet couch, dark colored tile in the bathroom, and a lovely walk-in shower. There was plenty of room to sprawl out. The hotel itself would be a great option for those in Madison who want a nice little staycation to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Pros: -Beautiful room -Room was large -Convenience of being above a coffee shop -Parking lot that connects to the coffee shop Cons: -I wish the door leading from the landing of the hotel entrance to the stairs of the coffee shop had locked (it was unlocked), from a safety perspective, I wish that it locked after going through that door -Wish the curtains were more blackout and easier to close Would I stay here again? When I tried to cancel with the Mill, (due to no elevator), I was told I would have to cancel with Expedia because the scammer booked my reservation through Expedia. Expedia has no record of any reservation for me with the Mill. The Mill informed me I would be charged all the nights stay, $975.00, if I didn't cancel with Expedia by my arrival date. How do I cancel with Expedia if they have no record of a reservation for me? I seriously question the Mills business practices, and also their customer service. I canceled my credit card because it was the only way I had to ensure I wouldn't be charged $975.00. I was told by the scammer when making the reservation it was refundable. Why couldn't the Mill just cancel the reservation?

The cabin was dirty on arrival: dust, dead bugs, trash under the bed, dirty bedding, and a strong musty odor. The outdoor space was no better -- the deck was covered in animal feces we had to clean, the yard was overgrown, the fire pit unusable, and mosquitoes made the space miserable. Inside, we found dangerously overloaded outlets and endured a nearly two-hour power outage caused by the owner's appliance. This was not the safe, comfortable, or enjoyable stay we expected at the price paid. We contacted the management company three times afterward with photos and a fair request for partial compensation. Each time, they refused to take responsibility, offering only excuses and dismissive responses. Travelers: expect a dirty, neglected property with zero support if issues arise. Owners: beware -- your property and reputation are at risk with this company. Many management firms care about guests and homes. Sadly, Sand County Service Company is not one of them. NOTE: We only took pics of the electrical for insurance purposes. We were too busy cleaning for two hours to take more. Trying to salvage a vacation!
