I walked into my first Container Store years ago in the Houston Galleria area. I lived near the Walnut Creek branch for years, and since then I find an occasional urban area (like West Des Moines) that has one. I'm naturally attracted to merchandise that can be used to store stuff. At the same time, Gayle would advise that I buy less "stuff", thus minimizing any further container purchases. So here I was in West Des Moines, primarily to look for luggage at REI. And much to my pleasant surprise was this Container Store, just an easy stroll away. This was exciting to me. I am a total geek sometimes. Sorting and putting things inside other things, organizing, it's all fun and this is the place to really get into it. It felt like a mini Ikea, with all the ideas and options on display. I didn't plan on buying anything. I found a couple little things and kept myself from buying the entire store. The store was well organized and multiple people around to help you if you need it. Prices seemed in the right range. So. I appreciate and respect that this corporation has taken COVID -19 seriously. The staff is ALWAYS very helpful and friendly ... even the times I am sliding in sideways right before closing time. Returns are easy weather you are a member or not. As a professional organizer I am often not needing one thing or another which I had purchased for a client. I keep my receipts and have never had any issues. No sifting through stuffed shelves and not being able to find enough of what I need. Hands down quality and service A+ read more

The Container Store is my dream store. I was so excited when I heard we were getting one in West Des Moines. I swear I heard angels singing when I walked through the doors. I totally geek out on all kinds of containers and organizational supplies. This store has everything you could possibly want or need to organize your home or office. I love it! I could spend an hour here walking through the aisles. The store is well organized and I really like how everything is displayed in a clean and modern way. They do have a lot of stuff so it can be kind of overwhelming at first, but they have helpful employees to help you find what you're looking for. I like that they have everything from tools for the kitchen and office to necessities for traveling and shelving for closets. They have it all. Most items were reasonably priced. They do have a clearance section, so you might be able to find some treasures for a fraction of the full price. They also have a rewards program which I made sure to sign up for. The state is opening up most everything including stores. we tried to go here on a Saturday afternoon. very few cats in the parking lot. huge store. they wouldn't let us shop without an appointment. they said they had too many people in there already. plus you are required to where a mask. fine we'll go down the street to Walmart. I think this is what heaven looks like for me! I am a VERY organized person, and there is literally everything to organize anything! Their prices are also super reasonable! At higher end stores you pay a fortune for storage and it's very affordable here. Also they have ELFA products, if you know HGTV then you how how amazing ELFA is, especially their closets! Which they have a design team that will go over things with you and even financing options to build your dream, drool worthy closet! This will definitely not be my last visit! Well this place is like a less chaotic IKEA store. There is so much stuff in here. It's a bit overwhelming to me! I didn't really come in here with a purpose but if I did I would be scared of the to many options button in my head! The stuff is all really clean, modern, and well displayed but there is just so much of it.. From shelves, to garbage cans, to kitchen items, to you guessed it containers of all shapes, sizes, and colors! The cashier's kept yelling, "We got another pop star!" Which I have no clue what it meant, but it seemed to me there were more pop stars here then on the Grammy ceremony I watched later that night.. I bet I will be back at this store sometime to buy my son a piggy trash can or something. read more

If you are looking for a container- this is your store! Office, closet, kitchen, laundry containers and organizers galore! Nicely displayed, well stocked and quality items available. I could spend thousands here. Literally because everything is higher priced than I was expecting. But it's a specialty store. They have more options of everything. If you are looking for a trash cans here are 30 different options! The cashier was very nice. But she was the only associate who said anything to me the whole time I was there. One of the new additions to the Des Moines area - we finally get a Container Store! Large, expansive, and near-ish the shopping area of Jordan Creek, it's right next to REI and has a large private parking lot. This Container Store is arranged like much of the others I've seen. PROS: -Despite being in its grand opening, I was surprised to find that the store was still pretty organized. Didn't see any messes everywhere or stuff misplaced everywhere. Shelves were stocked, looked organized, and were easy to shop. Price tags were where they should have been as well. -Bathroom was clean. -Container Store did a great job handling rushes. They called up extra staff to the front of the store, and most of the people waiting in line didn't have to wait long. -Cashier was extremely pleasant - especially to the customer in front of me. The customer wanted to have someone else take their purchases to their car, and the cashier called up an extra employee to do that for her - all while wearing a smile. -Variety of colors and sizes of most of the items here. If you need modern-styled decor or accessories to match your home, The Container Store probably has it. Love that I could pick the options that would best match my home. CONS: -Wasn't generally impressed by some of the pricing. Seems a bit on the higher side for a lot of things. It seems like they might hold regular decent-priced sales, though, and that might help bring down some of the higher prices. When we went, it was 30% off of their customizable organization products. -Store does offer carts for your shopping. However, the aisles feel a bit cramped. Two carts will have a decently difficult and awkward time trying to pass each other in the aisles. As it was, two people walking had to be a bit more close than I'd like to pass one another - it was easier to skip over aisles I wanted until people were out of that aisle. read more

I didn't know I even wanted a store like this and now I don't know what I'd do without it! I've always wanted to get organized but I need things to be in clear containers, otherwise I forget about them or can't find them. The Container Store has a plethora of clear containers and in different colors, if that's your thing. I've found containers that fit my needs for everything I need to organize. There are also gadgets and tools (cleaning/kitchen) that you know would make your life easier but could never find outside the internet. If you're like me, you need to see and feel things irl to know if they're right for your home and worth spending money on. I think I have a Container Store addiction! Don't send help. read more

5 stars, A+, blue ribbon experience today at The Container Store! I've stopped in the store before just to browse and found the staff polite and well trained, the store clean and neatly organized, and the product to be innovative and fun. Well, today was all this and more! The Elfa (the store's brand of organization items, closet fixtures, desks, all kinds of things) sale drew me into the store this afternoon to get a few closet items. The store was packed with customers, and the Elfa design desk was no exception. Despite several employees working with other customers, I was promptly greeted. The gal who greeted me was with another customer, but she sent Ashley, the manager, over to help me. Ashley doesn't usually work with the closets, but I never would have known that, as she asked me a bunch of questions and got started on closet ideas like a pro. Rebecca, a closet designer, quickly came and found us and took over. Rebecca was very thoughtful in asking questions to find out what would function best in our space. She also was very pleasant. I was beyond impressed by the service by both Ashley and Rebecca. They both were patient, knowledgeable, and made me feel like a VIP. They did not pressure me go outside my budget, in fact they found ways to save me money, and I couldn't be more excited about the functionality that will be added to my closet with the Elfa innovation. read more

Extremely disappointed. I move frequently, and love coming here to help organize the new space. Without exaggeration I've spent thousands of dollars here. Now, the one time I need to return an item, and I find out because I'm not a member they can't refund my original card; the only option is their own merchandise card. Chances are I'd have spent that $40 here in the next 2 weeks again anyway having just moved, but the idea that they FORCE me to spend that money there again is outdated and absolutely just awful. As silly as it sounds I threw the $40 card in their own trash on the way out the door and will not ever step foot in here again. You want people to stay off Amazon and support local? Update your policies, this is awful. Again, very disappointed, love the products here, and even today the girl at the counter was extremely kind. But your company policy is ridiculous. Well, we were visiting my friend over New Years and my wife is a fan of this store. I have to confess that I headed to REI before meeting up my friend and my wife. Anyways, this store isn't too different from the Edina-MN store. My wife's comment was that it didn't have much of a clearance aisle but it just opened. The Christmas 50% sale didn't exactly wow my wife. She picked up some things but put it back. My friend got a play mat for her grandson. I was looking for some do-dads (motion detecting night light, GPS/smart phone magnetic car mount, etc.) in the front area but no luck with anything actually what I would use. Well, I give this place a higher rating since Des Moines certainly needs something different and this is it. All they need next is an IKEA. read more
