The tub, hubby has to hold my hand, so I won't slip coming out of the tub. Everything else was GREAT & DANDY! The food. The service. The views to the garden and the park. The gazebo. The Rose Garden, the Clematis, the scented Jasmine. It's a HISTORIC mansion! It's my temporary HEAVEN as I am here! Then, I wake up, and we're back home, back to reality, kinda thing!

The innkeeper was quite intense and frequently interrupted us throughout our stay, repeatedly referring to us as "kids," which felt uncomfortable and unnecessary. During breakfast, the interruptions were so frequent that it was difficult to relax and enjoy the meal. We had specifically booked our room for the hot tub, but it wasn't hot during our stay. When we mentioned it, the response was that there had been kids in it the night before and maybe something had gone wrong. No solution, alternative, or adjustment was offered. While the property itself is beautiful, the overall experience was not relaxing, which is what we had hoped for in a bed-and-breakfast.

We were scoping out the area to buy our first home and visit my husband's best friend. I decided to treat us to a bed and breakfast. After looking for a couple hours online, I found the Century House. Jean was/is so sweet and kind, I am so happy to have gotten the opportunity to support the business. Jean was able to recommend a realtor to us. She is very knowledgeable about the Salem area and makes the best food. We got FRESH bing cherries and other fruits. As a resident of Hawaii, I so miss having fresh fruit. Our room was beautiful, ample space for 3 people. It felt like home. It was great. The breakfast was to die for. First morning was a parfait, sausages, and blueberry pancakes. Wow. Wow. Wow. To which I totally forgot to tell her that I don't eat red meat/pork. So the next morning she made salmon omelettes with cream cheese and a fruit crisp. I mentioned that a diner in Monmouth had the best crisps but they were out so we weren't able to get it. So she took it and decided to make one (totally warmed my heart). Both breakfasts were amazing. She sat with us both mornings and chatted, she's such a lovely person. When we move next June. We stayed in Room 6, the Family Suite and it honestly felt more like having our own little apartment. Kitchen, dining area, private bath, king bed...and that bed. I am not exaggerating when I say it may be the most comfortable bed and bedding I have slept on in a while. I wanted to take the whole thing home with me. The entire inn has this warm, quirky, beautiful old-coast-house feel to it. Soft jazz is playing in the background, there are little sitting areas everywhere, flowers and trees all around the property, and you just keep noticing new things every time you walk through. Our family suite was a fully equipped kitchen. It had most things you would need to prepare a meal, but the breakfasts kept us full most of the day. Again, breakfast was wonderful. Liz has a menu to choose from on a daily basis. I ordered three different meals and wasn't disappointed with any of them. And the soaking. Absolutely yes. Early mornings with a cup of coffee and the coastal mist, or under the stars with a glass of wine. Soaking and completely relaxing was one of our favorite parts. Didn't hear the other occupants most of the stay, and the place was fully booked. It felt very intimate and warm, even with other guests. Salmonberry has personality and charm. It's not pristine, it's lived in, but it's lovely. The owners have put their heart and soul into that place; and you can tell. It doesn't feel manufactured or like every other place you've stayed. We absolutely loved staying here and would stay here again without even thinking twice.

Our Favorite Place on Earth…read more Whales Rendezvous is undoubtedly our favorite place on earth! We recently spent 3 weeks at this lovely 'slice of heaven by the sea', for our 25th anniversary. There are simply no words to describe the feeling of peace and calm that overwhelm you while staying here. It is truly a magical place, and there's no place we'd rather be. Ever since returning home, our hearts and souls have longed to return to this amazing place. With spectacular views of the ocean, whales spouting, diving, spy hopping, and breaching mere feet from the rocks below, and gorgeous sunsets that will fill you with such a sense of wonderment...it's simply magnificent!
