Fast forward to graduation year and the daily rate seemed rather high so I went shopping around and came across The Hotel Salem. And after staying there, we should have gone here from day 1/year 1. First off, it's a fair distance from Willamette University, however the proximity to multiple places to eat, coupled with great rates, made up for it. It's a stones throw away from Trader Joe's for Christ's sake so a lot of our shopping was done in minutes. Not to mention a Walmart and Costco is nearby as well. The rate I got off from Booking.com also included daily breakfast and it was a great breakfast to start your day. Make your own waffles, coupled with multiple bread options, coffee, juice, fresh fruits and scrambled eggs, breakfast meats and fresh biscuits and country style gravy rounded the overall menu. Just wish the dining room area was a little more bigger. Onto the washer/dryer on the 1st floor. They both take quarters ($1.00 worth) and the washer takes 35mins to complete a normal cycle, while the dryer takes 45mins. There is only one of each so set your watch to make sure you go back on time after each cycle so someone else can start their load. The room is only open from 9am thru 10pm so plan accordingly. Water pressure in the shower is great. The dial is super sensitive and a very small turn from scorching hot to bearable is about 1/8th of a turn so test the water before you start the shower-head. The main issue our two rooms had was the shower curtain not being wide enough and the curtain sliding to one side versus the other. The first night, our bathroom got a lot of water on the floor. I finally figured out a solution by putting painter's tape on the curtain rod and extended a "tail" so that the curtain can go over this "stopper" of sorts and not slide down the rod to expose the other end. They should get a wider curtain to prevent this from happening. All in all this hotel was clean, staff was friendly and the price was right. I had concerns because I saw other reviews of people stating the smell of recreational MJ proliferating the floors. That was not the case for us except one night we came back and could smell it in the elevator. None in the hallways and we stayed there a total of 4 nights. So it turned out ok. So if you plan to travel to Salem, stay here. You won't regret it

Lucked out on getting the bathtub, because the sunset view would've had street traffic noise. The hotel is in pristine condition. Beautifully appointed as part of the Hilton Tapestry collection. It's within walking distance of the riverwalk, parks, restaurants, shops and the Capital Mall. There is Valet for $29, but free garages are close by. The valet was kind enough to let me know that one block over the 1 & 2 floors are always free while the higher floors are not. Didn't try the Italian restaurant off the lobby but it was always busy so it's probably good. I had a lovely stay here and would definitely recommend it.

They had Greek yogurt, but it was very grainy looking. The ONLY redeeming feature was the drinkable coffee. It wasn't anything special, just a go-hum medium roast tasting of generic coffee. But it was nice to enjoy a couple hot cups on the patio.

Our hostess was attentive to our every need and the rooms are lovely. We sat outside on an upper deck and enjoyed the evening view of the farm and stars. It was quiet and serene. In the morning, after great coffee, we were served fresh pears from the farm with sliced almonds and cream, fresh baked banana bread, a dutch baby with baked apples, and a cheesy baked egg in individual casseroles. We are vegetarians so declined the meat options. Our hostess is an amazing talented ranch woman with several other women on staff that care for the animals and equipment. The bathroom in my room was particularly nice, with luxurious appointments throughout. The room also featured a large wardrobe and mini refrigerator. The staff were absolutely fantastic! VERY professional, friendly, and helpful. This was true for every staff member I encountered. One of the housekeepers asked me in the elevator how I enjoyed my stay as I was leaving, which I found particularly nice. I filled out the survey that I got asking me to rate my stay, I told them the discrepancies that I found but received no reply. I guess the housekeeper gets a helluva tip and I get an expensive lesson. I also learned that I'll spend my money elsewhere.

I feel very safe in her home. There are personal care, dishes, and some food supplies in case you need, want or have forgotten an item. There is a guest cottage with a kitchen and 4 other bedrooms, two that have their own bathrooms. The home is set back from the road and is set on an acre. It is very quiet. The property is beautifully maintained. The pool and hot tub are available, but we never used them. My favorite amenity is the beautiful view out of every window that has ducks, a fat bunny, chickens and many varieties of birds. I will not be in Salem a dozen times a year anymore, but this will always be my Salem Home when I do visit. Thank You!
