Came here for their 100th anniversary and they were giving out free gelato which was so fun and to see their place on the inside and what they had to offer. They also provided water and juice. Definitely would think of coming back to visit.

    Entrance to the wedding

First time attending a wedding at this venue. Our neighbors who just moved in a few months ago, graciously invited to their special day. The facility is located in the heart of the Coral Gables, beautifully grounds all around. It is however, an athletes club and a pool for those who are members of the country club. It was a little odd to look up as we walked toward the building and see people working out on the second floor or see people with inflatables as they head to the pool area. I have to admit it was kind of humorous. Anyways, we were there for our neighbors wedding. The place is fancy, the ceremony was held in a room which if I am not mistaken it was called the Fountain room. Very intimate room, it probably sits about 75 people maybe a little more or less. It all depends on how the party planner or the customer chooses to decorate it. The second room we were escorted to was the cocktail room where they have the bar and a few pub style tables for your drinks, not really a place to sit down as there are no chairs in this area. You will however, much on finger type food or hors d'oeuvres such as mini sausage croissants, mini spring rolls, mini Mahi Mahi ceviche, mini chicken croquettes. All delicious! The reception/dining room was very nicely decorated, it is not that big but it feels very intimate. The dance floor is somewhat small as my husband I kept bumping into the other dancers. This room is where you will also be served your dinner, today we had a delicious salad with baked apples and an entire that Had a little bit of everything for all as it had your beef as in filet mignon, some type of crusted chicken which was also very good, fresh asparagus and carrots. Looking back I wish I would have finished my plate but I didn't as I didn't want the people on our table whom we didn't know to think I was a hungry girl. Overall, this is a very nice place, nice location, very nice people such as the servers. Not sure if the dj came with the venue but he did a great job and he also did done singing of his own. I would love to have a wedding at this place, who knows maybe at my 25th wedding anniversary.

    Del Monte XMas Party

This is the third year that I can recall Del Monte has had its annual holiday party. The last year it was in Comber Hall at the Church of the Little Flower which was not as nice, although I did win a free TV during their raffle. The Xmas lunch included a wonderful mixed salad, chicken leg and a lovely chocolate desert. Unlimited drinks and I had a few. Even though the corporate office shares the same building you rarely get to know everyone except when you ride the elevator, so this holiday party is the one time that you can spend some serious face time with all of the employees in Corporate HQ. I tend to get up in between each course and make it a point to introduce myself to new people and wish a happy holiday to those that I do know. During the party there is an acknowledgment ceremony of people who have worked 5-35 years with the company, and as each 5 year increment is called out more people sit down. It's astounding how many people have stuck with the firm for over 15 years even. The company also typically raffles off a few gifts too. Then there is a good bit of dancing as the DJ pumps up the music. It's always a fun affair.

Want something convenient to play some golf without so much production? This is it! Love the course! It's easy to check in and just get into the game. Parking is close to the clubhouse and pro shop. The staff is very friendly and will accommodate you as best as possible and the people who usually play in that course are great! (Some maybe better than others lol). The course has a good amount of bunkers, not many water traps, but try to stay out of the trees! Definitely recommend it! Especially if you're looking to play some golf on a Friday afternoon (while it's breezy and there's light til late!)

Stuck in the back room unable to see or hear the wedding reception festivities below. We all feel like second class citizens.

For those of you thinking about having a wedding reception here please don't. I'm here tonight attending the wedding reception of good friends and the reception room next to the pool is so inadequate. There are about a hundred guests and the space is so awkward for a party this big. It's divided into two rooms with the second room (that half of us are stuck in) being about a half flight above and behind the first room. The reason why this doesn't work is because the acoustics are terrible and we cannot hear a single thing. Also there are column barriers preventing the half of us stuck in this room from seeing the festivities below. This is an expensive venue and a pretty penny was spent on using this space. I'm a physician and have attended weddings all over the world, I can honestly say this is the worst venue I've ever attended for a reception. I would equate this with being stuck in economy class on a plane and being seated in the back by the lavatories. Save your money and you'll be happier elsewhere.

Fortunately I follow the Coral Gables Country Club on social media and noticed that my fiance and I did not receive a complete tour of the venue. I'm not sure why this happened. I'm led to believe our age and the fact we are a biracial couple had something to do with it. After having to wait 35 minutes to start our appointment the professional choice would've been to give a complete tour and not cutting it short. Lorena's inability to follow with the quoting and catalog information thereafter was also evident she had no interest in helping us. We were under the impression that the prestigious Coral Gables Country Club excelled in the art of class and professionalism, however our experience there leads us to believe otherwise.

The status match actually got us free breakfast, thank goodness, As it was $37 pp plus tip for breakfast. I will say, though, it was an excellent breakfast spread. And the first morning included Huevo rancheros with Cotija cheese, the usual scrambled eggs, and a variety of breakfast meats and potatoes, as well as as they have an omelette station and a lot of variety of fruits, deli meats, pastries, oatmeal, and toppings. There really is quite a big selection here. Service was excellent as well. We had a king room with a balcony with the most amazing view of downtown- the bathroom had a huge marble, shower and philosophy, products for shampoo, lotion, etc. There is also a nice bar on the first floor that has food and drink and a decent wine selection as well as sports playing on the TV so we were able to catch a couple of NCAA women's champ games We did spend an afternoon at the pool, it is a decent size with a good number of loungers. There is a counter you can go to to order drinks and food, but it was odd. There was only one person working at this counter so when they disappeared to go pick up food, a lot of people were waiting. This is an interesting set up for such a nice hotel. I will say you are in a very walkable area with tons of restaurants and shops in the vicinity so take your time to familiarize yourself. We went to Motek tonight for some wonderful Israeli food and it was fantastic. If you want, cheap eats, there is a Pollo tropical around the corner. It was very late when we arrived and we just wanted some grilled chicken and this hit the spot for about 13 bucks. Well, it's not the most convenient area to the cruise port, it is very nice here and much quieter than the Biscayne Bay area, so definitely an up level if you like Staff have been very friendly and accommodating as well

In 1921 he attended Rollins College in Winter Park. Shortly after he started planning the City of Coral Gables. It was one of the first planned communities in the United States. He took his inspiration from the City Beautiful movement that was popular in the 1900's. In 1925 Merrick's family moved to Miami from Pennsylvania to join him. It was two years after Henry Flagler brought the railroad to Florida and it was the dawn of the development of Florida. Merrick started selling lots in the city in 1921. He marketed the city as having 40 miles of waterfront property. He wanted all of the city landmarks to be connected by water. He offered gondola rides from the Biltmore to the Cocoplum neighborhood to prospective home buyers. Coral Gables was designed to have four entry arches. They are reminiscent of the medieval gates in Europe and were meant to show that Coral Gables is separate from the surrounding city. At first Merrick planned on developing the Country Club Prado section as the city's downtown. In the end he decided to move it east to be closer to the already established towns of Miami, Coconut Grove, and Brickell. Merrick wanted his buildings to be strictly Spanish and later the Mediterranean style that was popular during Florida's land boom years in the 1920's. Eventually he expanded his vision to include seven unique villages inspired by different international influences. Today they are some of the most sought after addresses in the city. The buildings in Coral Gables were so well made that they survived hurricanes before there were building codes. Among his many accomplishments, George Merrick also created the University of Miami. Thanks to George Merrick's meticulous planning many of Coral Gables historic landmarks survive today including the Venetian Pool, the Alhambra Water Tower, and the Miami Biltmore Hotel. The later years were not kind to George Merrick. The Florida land boom went bust due to two hurricanes followed by the Great Depression. By 1928 George Merrick was forced out of the city he founded and ended up in the Keys. He went bankrupt in 1929. He returned to the city two years before he died to serve as postmaster. He died in 1942 at the young age of 55. He and Eunice are buried under a very simple marker in Woodlawn North. You can learn more about George Merrick by taking a tour of his family home in Coral Gables. Today Coral Gables has a population of 50,000 people. It's nickname is "the city beautiful." The University of Miami is a major educational institution. Giralda Plaza and Miracle Mile are popular dining and shopping destinations. The Historic Preservation Association of Coral Gables was founded in 1973 and they have been very successful in saving the historic landmarks in the city that make it so charming. Coral Gables is filled with ornate Mediterranean architecture and beautiful parks. Fairchild Botanical Gardens is a popular tourist destination for plant and nature lovers. Books and Books hosts a literary festival every November that attract authors and book lovers from around the country. The city is very pedestrian friendly. I could go on and on about my love of Coral Gables. If you haven't been in awhile it is time to rediscover the crown jewel of Miami.
