One is missing out if they haven't already shopped The Cottage Door in Weaverville! I have been a shopper and consigner for 18+ years. Rachel, the owner and her crew are so warm and friendly. You'll find them greet you when you enter and always happy to assist you, The Cottage Door continues to be an upscale consignment shop as they are selective. This being said, gently used vintage and modern clothing, shoes, jewelry, choctchkies, along with antique items too. Oh and furniture!!! Always beautiful furniture in this shop. Everything is clean and well organized, unlike many thrift stores I've been to. Prices and consignment pay out are both very fair. The store is lovely and so fun to meander through. One wont need to sift and sort through items which really makes the shopping experience a pleasure. You'll see items that you've never seen before and are so interesting! Went is for the first time today. I shop at consignment shops often. This store seemed to be very overpriced for the quality of the items. The clerk never acknowledged me the complete time I was in the store. Just another reason not to shop at this store. read more

Can a single employee ruin a business? Apparently so! Having shopped here for 5 years and never having an issue or negative experience I can no longer say that since they have hired a male employee. Since they have hired him I have yet to NoT have an issue when he is working. I have cut my visits from once a week back to once a month to I'll probably never step foot through the door again! Typical practice is they will hold your items while you continue to shop. Never had a problem with this even at times we have walked out with a half dozen boxes of merchandise. The last 2 visits items were left out! I write this review laying fault on the single employee because he will not just do HIS job or task! He wants to or actually does try and run every aspect of the store in an instance rather than concentrating on one area as other employees do and have done. He won't give up the register to work the floor or outside space but he won't run the register and it's tasks and let another employee(s) who have worked there years do their tasks. {This should be a huge red flag for ANY manager/owner} On top of that he is obnoxious beyond words. Everything is "I" "I'm" "mine" "my" etc.... having spoke with the owner multiple times I know the owner isn't him, yet he had the nerve to state that Rachel (the actual owner) "didn't know what she was doing that's why she brought me on" In other words he runs around acting like he is the owner and on top of that he acts like he is running Sotheby's. I actually saw him in a restaurant waiting on carry out and he told another waiting patron he works "in valuable antiques" I used to like the Cottage Door items but still seriously "valuable antiquities"???? LMAO! The Cottage Door at one time was a reasonably priced consignment shop with quality items it is now so-so items of little interest and overpriced for what it is. Considering every time I have been in since the hiring of their male employee he is bragging "he priced...." "he is asking..." etc so by his own words he is responsible for the shift. On my last visit, I was in to inquire about an item left out of my order because he over looked it upon check out due to minding a customer's business from the register who was looking at a furniture item on the sidewalk. There was at least one other employee present that could have waited on the other customer or taken over waiting on me but he wouldn't even let her get a word in. When I asked him if they still had the item (a Christmas item that was marked 75% during their after Christmas sale) they did still indeed have the item but he informed me it was now full price again. When questioned about the Christmas sale his snarky reply while turning his back to me to go once again mind a customer's business while there were other employees in the store was "that was then this is now" I followed up with asking if he was a manager to have that liberty with price swapping and his reply was "they trust me I don't have to wait for a manager" {Again this should be a big red flag to any real manager or business owner!} He speaks very openly on the sales floor and at the register about his personal life and upon my last visit he had a glaring hickey on his neck. This employee's behavior is not isolated to just my own experiences. I have spoke to multiple customers who have expressed similar complaints and experiences as of recent and only with this specific employee. *NOTE: my previous review was a five star glowing review. I have always found excellent selection, quality and good prices at The Cottage Door. I have even consigned a few items. The employee that I am most familiar with is Tye. He has learned what type/style of things I like and always has recommendations when I arrive. He is friendly and outgoing with great customer service and an eye for detail. I have had little interaction with the other employees as they are not very verbal or friendly. I always request Tye's assistance because he is the true reason that I shop at this store. read more

I started using them about a year ago. Never made much but a good avenue to get rid of better clothes, household items etc. About a month ago my wallet was stolen and my check was in it for a whopping total of about $45. I called and spoke to Ty and after checking with the owner said they would cut me another check minus the bank fee. Ok I understood. Since I live 40 miles away Ty offered to mail it. After a week and I received nothing in my mail I called again and he checked with the owner and she said the check would be in the mail. It's been 2 weeks and I still don't have my check. My husband stopped there on his way to Asheville and requested my check. The owner refused to give me my check. Ty said it was odd this was happening. Bottom line, it was harder enough to have my wallet stolen, having to remind them to send my check and to date not received it. In essence I list money. This place has a bad karma and for me I don't plan on fighting for my $20 plus dollars. I will keep far away and use reputable online services. read more

Shady practices and very rude service. I dropped off merchandise for sale and was asked if I wanted a copy of the contract. Why would I not want it? The owner handed me a contract to sign, I signed it and gave it back to her. She kept the signed contract from me and did not sign the contract herself but instead handed me back a blank contract with neither of our signatures on it. There was no mention of the items I had left with them on the contract; the items were entered into their database. I was left with a totally useless contract. They will not call or text you if your items sell. When one of my items sold I went to the store to receive a check and was asked if I wanted to leave the funds with the store. It was as if they really didn't want to give up the funds. When I called regarding another item I was told that they were busy and they hung up the phone. Extremely rude read more

I've ventured into this delightful thrift & upscale resale destination in the heart of Weaverville on more than one afternoon and am never disappointed. Their incredible selection and high volume consignments mean a whole new shopping experience each week. I've bought every day items, like new clothing and shoes, not to mention the gorgeous decorative items and furniture.
