Easily made a reservation for my son's graduation dinner. I called about a month in advance for a party of seven and we had no problems at all. Upon arrival we were greeted nicely and seated in the garden under the large tent. The weather was perfect to sit outside. The restaurant was very clean and classy, especially for Nacogdoches. The bathroom was clean. The atmosphere was easy going yet elegant. The bartender made amazing cocktails and the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

I hate doing this. I hate it but I have to to save you. Gross. Simply gross. Waiter was kind so was the owner. Drinks were fantastic. However this place is gross. Do not come here. If you do, get drinks. Enjoy the ambiance and leave. Sorry man. I was asked to provide further feedback. I did not want to go into further detail however because I was asked I will. The pictures do look very nice thank you! After speaking with you I mentioned that the "seasonal" vegetables looked bagged from the frozen section and so does the potatoes. You said you agreed. I also asked what was cooked in house because if I had to guess it would only be the tomato vinaigrette. You again agreed. The baguettes tasted like something bagged from a store and you agreed that it was. The halloumi is cheese you grilled which was ice cold and very crumbly. It is a cheese that does not easily melt but should have some give to it. The sweet Thai chili sauce is also from a bottle which you told me. The crepes are flour eggs milk and butter which were sadly flavorless. The chicken inside was hammered to sawdust which again you agreed. Salad is salad so there's that. I also told you that the pork was very over cooked and was hammered compared to the chicken. This is where you disagreed. I asked where you got the pork and you said from allegiance. I said typically for this price of pork I would guess it was Berkshire. You said you believed it was. It isn't. Allegiance sells duroc pork which is much different. I asked you very specifically if this was all house made and you said only the tomato dressing was. Everything thing else is ordered from allegiance. I'm sorry but I did not want to do this. I hope this helps everyone in this town out. Additional note, I waited for over 30 minutes for you to come to speak with me, when right before hand you spoke to the lovely couple behind me as they fed you compliments. Once someone else needs your attention they had to wait. No worries. I again waited another 10 minutes to get my check. In fact I had to go get it. When you came around the corner you said "oh now what ?" I asked to be checked out and you stated that you did not know how to work the register. A waiter had to help you here. As you tried to finish ringing me up you also stated that you did not know how to use the card reader. Again, I did not want to go this in detail. This was our first time here. The driveway is narrow, and we missed it the first time driving by. We had to drive around the block. We weren't sure where to go after we parked, so we had to 'scope out' which building to go. Great food. We ate outside as it was nice and breezy after it rained. Small parking lot. I'm visiting and I was excited when my mom offered up a relatively new wine bar. She's an avid Gardner and loves their outside seating with lush greenery with a pond and gazebo. We ordered the bacon wrapped figs (spectacular) and each had an omelet with our mimosas. The table service was casual yet attentive, the music choice was enjoyable and not too loud. While my friends enjoyed their wine, I enjoyed mocktails! They have an entire menu and also can make mocktails off the menu! Our server, Vance, was excellent! While all the staff is great, I am always excited to see him as our server because I know we will treated kindly, be taken care of, and he provides great recommendations. This is the second time that I have reviewed this Wine Bar. I wish to make two changes in that review. First, I am dropping my rating by two stars. The reason for this is my second change in the review. This concerns the wine list. Tonight, I went to The Cottage, along with my meal. I had three glasses of wine. Now, I prefer dry red wines, so I ordered, in order a merlot, a pinot noir, and a cabernet sauvignon, three well-known dry red wines. The chief characteristic of dry red wines is that there is no residual sugar (they are NOT sweet); the three wines I was served were sweet. Thus, my lowering of my rating. I will find it difficult to return unless there is a drastic improvement in the wine list. I say this after averaging one visit per month, almost from when they first opened. read more

Another mother and I had a concerning experience while dining with our adult daughters. While the ambience, menu, and everything I personally ate was spectacular, the other mom traveling with me had a bit of difficulty, which led to a bizarre outcome. She is gluten intolerant and asked our server what options were safe for her; the sweet young lady serving us was very nervous and unsure; we told her it was not a big deal and asked if she could help us find out if they had any options. When she returned with our glasses of wine, her hands were shaking as she put down my glass, and she said, "I'm sorry. I'm always so nervous I'm going to spill it." I reassured her that even if she did. . .it would be fine, and we laughed. She then shared with my friend that she could order a salad or the pork belly lettuce wraps. Great. My friend told her if they happened to have a gluten-free bun, she'd love a burger; otherwise, she'd take the pork belly wraps. Still. . .no problem, and everyone is happy. Meanwhile, the girls and I place our order for the French Onion Soup and Side Salad. Our server comes back and says they do not have a gluten-free bun and are out of the pork belly wraps; still. . .no problem. The server recommends their "other wrap." My friend asked what was in them. Server's response, "Like. . .lettuce. . .I think chicken. . I don't know, but I've had them, and they're really good." Odd, but still. . .no problem. She was clearly not well-informed and was very nervous, so we just kept rolling with it. My friend ended up ordering the bacon-wrapped dates. 30 minutes later, our soup and salad was finished (it was absolutely delicious), and my friend's plate still had not come out, so she went to the kitchen to check on it and found it sitting on the counter. The lady in the kitchen switched on an oven and put it in at that point, telling my friend "they take 9 minutes." Again. . .strange, but we are just enjoying the wine, the patio, the company. With a few reasons to be frustrated, we still were not. At this point, the restaurant had emptied out except for one long table behind us, which we later found out was the owner and his extended family/friends celebrating their one-year anniversary. A total of 40 minutes later, my friend gets her plate, eats a date (it was good), cut into a second one, and the bacon was raw in the middle. She then began unrolling the remaining dates, and all the bacon was raw. She told the server who said, "Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry. Can I get you anything else?" to which my friend responded, "No, thank you. We are ready to go, but if you want to remove the glass of wine from my bill for all the trouble, I would take it," and then she smiled, which was really meant to indicate that she'd love some sort of customer care offered for the raw bacon, but that she certainly wasn't going to raise a stink about it. This is when things shift to Twilight Zone level dysfunction. The server left for a few minutes (I'm guessing must have told the owner some dishonest version of the evening), and the owner came to our table with a defensive and clearly unfriendly tone saying, "I hear you have a problem tonight." My friend could tell from his demeanor he had the wrong impression, so she asked if she could please share the details. He said yes, but as she talked he continued to grow aggressive, defensive, interrupted her, made excuses "we have an 11x11' kitchen; we are not big-city, etc." I saw it was going nowhere and just wanted to leave and continue enjoying time with our daughters. Plus, the girls were getting very upset and had worked so hard on planning the day. I said to my friend, "Stop. He just doesn't care." To which, he lost his last marble and said, "That's exactly how I feel. I do not care, and you can get the fuck out." I replied, "Wow, I will quote you." Then, he really showed his true colors. He continued to yell, said they were celebrating their one-year anniversary and didn't need Karens, Nacogdoches doesn't want you, get the fuck out, I will cover your tab, my staff is my family, and then in an extra-psychotic move invited his table of guests to stand up and clap us out, which they did. The girls and my friend quickly exited. I was so stunned and still trying to understand that, for some reason, I stopped at his seat and said, "Sir, your reaction does not match what happened. Everything was so wonderful." He started yelling and cussing (the two people next to him-looked to possibly be his parents or similar nurturing role) tried to calm him down as I walked away. I got to the end of the table where an elderly woman sat and she, with all the nastiness and creepiness of the world, pointed at me and hissed, "You should be ashamed. I hope you get what you deserve." Seriously? What.in.the.world? It's really too bad, too, because the restaurant itself is something he deserves to be proud of and successful with. read more

I was looking forward to a nice relaxing lunch at the SFA parents weekend. We brought nine people to this restaurant. I made a reservation for 1 PM. We arrived a couple of minutes before one. I had asked to be seated outside and so I was expecting it to be hot but I was not expecting to my table and food to be covered in gnats the minute Food came out. We ordered crêpes, one that was supposed to be a mushroom crêpe and the other one a Florentine crêpe. They both came out the same, with some sort of shredded chicken and nothing else, maybe there was some shredded cheese inside? No spinach sautéed, no mushrooms, no onions, all of which was on the menu, and both were supposed to have a garlic Parmesan sauce which was lacking. The service well adequate was incredibly slow. I don't know if this is the fault of the kitchen or what but they had over an hour wait which one it was 93° outside and I was sitting outside with gnats hanging out was miserable. After an hour I went in and complained and then the food came out about 20 minutes later. The cost is astronomical, literally $25 for a hamburger and fries, so I would expect there to be optimal amazing food with awesome service. I have had better service in any other place including McDonald's. Don't waste your money or your time to come here. We had to ask repeatedly for them to come refill our drinks which were melting like crazy because of the heat. It's just not worth your money or your time. read more

Tried this restaurant out while visiting a friend in Nac. The ambiance was pleasant at first as I dined outside and listened to the band. The menu had several enticing items. However, my server had very little knowledge about the menu and would disappear for extended lengths of time. It took forever to get my food and once I had it, she never came back to check on things. Another server was obviously drunk which was strange because the owner happened to be there. In fact, I overheard the owner complaining about people bringing children to his restaurant and about someone with food allergies needing to eat somewhere else because it wasn't his job to be accommodating. His overall attitude toward his customers was unbelievably rude. He was so off putting that I won't be back. read more

Very disappointing experience. My boyfriend and I have been to The Cottage Wine Bar before, at least 6 months ago, and our previous experience was amazing. Great food, our server was extremely attentive and personable, and beautiful ambiance. We decided to come back again tonight, and were extremely disappointed with our experience. First off, their menu is completely different than the first time we came. Originally, there were a lot of different options on their menu, including pasta, sandwiches, burgers, etc. We came tonight and there are literally only crepes on the menu, and 1 burger option. I understand that at some restaurants, menu's rotate based off of inventory or season, but to have your entire menu solely be crepes is bizarre to me, as they are not advertised as a crepe restaurant. We ordered the caprese bites for an appetizer, and had to wait 30 minutes before they came out. Keep in mind, it is literally 4 crostini's with mozzarella and tomatoes on it. They were also not very busy at the time that we ordered this (~3 other tables). We went another 15 minutes without seeing our server, and were finally approached and asked if we wanted entrees. I ordered the Florentine crepe, and my boyfriend ordered the burger. We, again, waited around 30 minutes before we received our food, or even saw our server. Our server wasn't even the one who dropped our food off, and he didn't approach us to ask how the food was until about 10-15 minutes after we had received it. The Florentine crepe was the most plain, boring, unseasoned item I have ever had at a restaurant, especially one that is as pricey as The Cottage. $16 for what tasted like canned chicken and spinach, with no salt or pepper or any seasoning at all. It was so bland. Any boyfriends burger was over cooked and chewy, and his mashed potatoes also had zero seasoning on them. We immediately asked for the check so we could leave. Our server was very nice and I could tell that he was trying his best, so the 2 star review is not a reflection on his service. He was not very attentive and barely checked on us, but everything came out correctly and our drinks came out fast. Overall, this experience has turned me away from The Cottage, and I will not be returning. read more
