Wow this place surprised me. This is an Asian fusion restaurant with an excellent beer selection, many from the local brewery. It was a busy and a little loud Friday night so we sat at the bar. The bartenders were so friendly, welcoming and provided great service. The chicken lettuce wraps were so yummy and crunchy. I also had a beef bulgolgi taco on naan bread. It was a nice mixture of flavors that I really enjoyed. My friend had the chicken tandoori salad with ginger miso dressing. The salad was outstanding! Consistent. Flavorful. Diverse menu items. I get chicken fried rice, Brussels sprouts. They're both tasty.

This looks to be a great place, but my wife and I order pad thai and a drunken noodles. Both bitches were extremely salty. We couldn't possibly eat them. We ate the protein out of them, but we left all of the noodles because they were too salty. The atmosphere is very open. Typical of a college town venue. It's a big Hall where everyone meets with the bar at the end that's OK but we were disappointed because we thought the Asian food would be better. The samosas we had as an appetizer were very good. I've been here twice now and the first time was so, so good with quick service but the second time around was slightly different of an experience. The service was on the slower side, but there were only 3 servers working. I ordered the Firecracker Shrimp for an appetizer and the Pad Thai with steak for my entrée. The Firecracker Shrimp was quite underwhelming, I thought it was going to be tossed in the sauce and the batter didn't want to stay on the shrimp 6/10. The Pad Thai barely had any steak and the steak it had was basically crumb sized, not only that but it had a strong citrus taste and was dry 6/10. I wouldn't order either dishes again, but last time I came I ordered the Firecracker Chicken bowl and that was so good! So I'd say it just depends on what you order if it's going to be good or not. read more

We stopped in for break between moving into dorm. The boudin egg rolls were amazing, crisp crunchy and flavorful. The pot stickers were as good as any of the best Chinese restaurants in Texas. Daughter had the Keep's fried rice. Rice looked like steamed rice in 2 mounds that you mixed with the rest. It was delicious. I had a beef rice noodle bowl with extra side of stir fried veggies. It was excellent. Wife and daughter had the cheese burger. Again flawless flavor. The home made buns are incredible alone. We definitely loved the food and had good service. Overall this most recent visit to Barkeep was not enjoyable. The sever took awhile to acknowledge our arrival and stated she forgot our table was in her section. We ordered appetizers and they arrived hot, this is the best part. The drunken noodles were SO spicy I could not eat them. They were also missing any of the vegetables listed from the menu. I was surprised about the spice level as I asked for a zero. We did ask the server about the spice level, and she simply told us that the sauce is just spicy. I have eaten at BarKeeps on my last three visits to Nac. and this last time was off. Not sure if I will go back but my daughter likes the chicken teriyaki bowl, so at least that is a positive note. read more

Pretty mixed bag but I don't live in Nacogdoches so only passing through. THE DINING ROOM: When you enter it has a weird gutted aesthetic of concrete floors and a big bar to the right. The second thing I noticed was all the red chairs were disgustingly stained. Weird gross patterns. Apparently it was formerly a Chinese place so I guess they kept the dirty chairs. 1/5 THE BEER: The have a giant beer list which I presume is keeping with the Barkeeps name. We ordered 3 different drafts and they all came out flat. Not a good sign when you purport to be a beer joint. Must have kegs sitting around for a long time or they have no idea how to do a proper tap. The flattest beer I've ever had in my life. 1/5 THE FOOD: Getting to the menu it was not at all what I expected based on the name. Pho, Bahn Mi, Naan tacos, Asian bowls, Salads, Curries, they all looked amazing on the menu. Pictures on yelp also looked great. We ordered Samosas, Boudin Eggrolls, and Potstickers for appetizers and they were all delicious. Had never had Boudin Eggrolls before and they did not disappoint. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki bowl with cucumber, avocado, lettuce, and white rice was FANTASTIC. The sauce was delicious and all of it was delicious and fresh. Would love to order this again. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. No complaints there. 5/5 THE SERVICE: A little slow but we were a big group. 4/5 OVERALL: For the food alone I would go back again the kitchen was crushing it. I would avoid the draft beer. Reviewing after two visits! We're first stumbled across this place when we came to Nac for parents weekend two months ago. We had some good cocktails. I'm sure we had some apps too. This time around we got the steak salad, pad tai, pho, and shrimp salad. All were pretty tasty. Their mimosas are good but our favorite is their Summer Fizz. Highly recommend! The food here is delicious! I'm a huge fan of dishes like the teriyaki chicken bowl and the ramen. Service is hit or miss. My friends and I stopped by a few weeks back. We waited over 15 minutes and no server stopped by to offer drinks to start, so we walked out. During that wait however, one server (not assigned to our table) asked us if we ordered samosas which was unusual. He set it down at our table while asking which is a health no-no. I've been going to Barkeeps for several years now (2021) and it's been one of my favorite eateries in Nac. But it's really, really dropped off lately. The service (save for maybe 2) has really dropped in quality - twice I've walked out, and I hate walking out of places. And they've also upped their prices while taking shortcuts in their food quality - blame inflation if you want, but the exchange of food quality to price isn't balanced anymore. I would've been fine paying more money if the quality stayed the same, but not for cheap ass shortcuts. Today was my breaking point. We waited a few minutes to get seated (no big deal), and our hostess told us that our server would be with us soon. I wasn't keeping an eye on the time, but it was probably about ten minutes and no one had been by to get our drink order. No big deal, maybe short staffed. The hostess sat another table next to us and said the same thing, then left. Another five minutes go by and she stops back at that other table and tells them that the server is having some sort of issue (didn't hear what exactly) but because she knows the people at that table, she'll set them up with drinks at least. She didn't say anything to us. We just got up and left after that, and I will not be coming back if it's my choice. Their tikka masala was my favorite thing on that menu, and now it's $15 instead of $13. Their potatoes and queso dip used to be $8 with the add-ons, now it's $12. I loved their cookie butter brioche used to come with five slices or so of French toast with lots of cookie butter and berries and banana (blueberries, sliced strawberries) and now it comes with some weird strawberry jam, four slices, and banana slices. Barely any cookie butter now :/ Sad to see the changes, maybe they're suffering financially or something, but after about five visits with the previously mentioned kind of quality, I can say I no longer care. I will be leaving reviews in multiple places (Facebook, Google or whatever) because it's important to me that Barkeeps sees that people are noticing the changes. Hopefully the hostess gets talked to, and if I need to pick her out of a lineup I will. It really made me mad to hear that and then her just walk away. read more

I want it on record, I do this after multiple attempts to give them the benefit of the doubt. I've had a number of occassions over the years of shotty service or sub par food. But it is one of two Pho places in town, and I tried the other place, and it was so far worse, even though the recommendations said they were better. This last time though, was my final straw, and I love Pho, and seriously, I wanted more from Bar keeps.....I took my sister last year when she came in from AZ. The service, was iffy, my server was very sweet, but spotty. The other servers or employees sat at the bar and made sure that Everyone was listening to their conversation, which I would have rather missed. The beer tasted off, with that many taps, I'm sure it is a lot to clean the lines, but there was a funk taste to the blonde. They no longer carry the spring rolls, so got the veggie wraps. It was literally lettuce leaves, a peanut thai sauce, and a little cup of something that was so bland, I couldn't salvage the flavor from it......it was just like eating grass with something else to add texture. The Beef pho, was ordered spicy, was so blah, I had to add so much sirachai that I had to wonder what they actually consider spicy....the beef was so fatty, more fat than meat.....the broth tasted like package ramen noodle broth. I was thoroughly disappointed with the meal. I had one lettuce wrap, ate a bit of the Pho, and two sips of the beer......Left all on the table, and paid my 30 dollar tab and left. My server asked if i wanted in a box, and I told her it was all tasteless, and would just go in the trash anyways. I've noticed over the years that the patrons in there on a regular day are decreasing.......Think the answer is obvious, it is time to start tasting and putting effort into the output of food quality. I feel bad for writing this, because I like the place, and keep trying to give it a chance, but each time, they find a new way to disappoint me or the other patrons. read more

What an interesting theme of cuisine firstly, Asian fusion. It's hard to miss as it's located right next to SFA university. We ordered " Veg Spring rolls" for appetizers which was crispy on the outside and filled with flavorful filling inside with a side of sweet chili sauce that complimented the rolls ever so well. Main course we ordered "Chicken Naan Tacos" which definitely was the star of the night as the naan complimented the filling which was basically chicken, sweet corn, sweet onions topped with this Greek tzatziki sauce over that had its proportions rightly and dint overbear the whole taste pallet, "Chicken Tikka Bowl" which was chicken tikka over a bed of rice, vegetables, avacado topped with honey curried mustard which hit the tastebuds just right & "Naan wrap" which is chicken tikka, sautéed caramelized onions in naan with a side of the Greek tzatziki sauce which again was a brilliant idea of incorporating naan as a wrap and which in turn kicked up a notch in terms of the taste. Appears to be relatively new with a bland uninspired interior, sitting at the bar is a miserable experience if you have not brought your partner with you (give you something to look at). Should you look at the back of the bar, the trash can should not be a focal point, the mess around the cash register is inexcusable. The purse with a hairbrush sticking out of it does not inspire confidence for the safe food handling practices of the place. Did not see what their hygiene rating was. The glasses were on a makeshift rack covered in aluminum wrap- not really professional. The hot wings: yuk (and I like hot wings, I love hot wings) in fact the physical temperature of the wings was at best warm. Great selection of beer and a full bar. The two stars are for the barmaid, happy and helpful but not enough for a repeat visit. read more

She does not know how to make a margarita, mine was tremendously over poured and straight tequila with a hint of lime juice. she also would not stop talking bad about her other coworkers which is very unprofessional in my opinion. she then started bragging to others about how she's a manager now? I think she's letting the power get to her head a little, which again, not very professional. it's also just not a good look for the management there. I don't want to hear those things as a paying customer. overall, disappointing and I hope bailey learns how to be a little better of a person and bartender. read more

This is hands down one of my favorite places in Nacogdoches. The food is always incredible, and the owners, cooks and staff are just as great. How many college towns do you see the same staff working at the same bar/ restaurant for the duration of their time here? Some of our favorite dishes are the tandoori chicken bowl (really all of the bowls are great), and the rotating talis. Last Thursday, we went and hadn't decided on anything, and the chef said, "I've got you." He made an excellent dish with steak and shrimp and wilted spinach that fed two of us and was amazing. OMG!!!! A jewel has been found. Cold beers and delicious Thai food. We drove in from Livingston to try it and we were NOT disappointed. Service was absolutely great and the atmosphere was good relaxing quality. Food was hot and seasoned to fit your taste. On our last trip we had Pad Thai. Even if you do not like or have not tried Thai food there are plenty of other traditional favorites. So c'mon, get out of your box and try this place. You will not regret it. read more
