Ever see that episode of Here Comes Honey BooBoo where she goes to this auction place and buys all that stuff for super cheap? Well, Pennsylvania has a place exactly like that, actually almost exactly like that.
One thing you really need to know about this place is that it is only open one day a week, for only a few hours. This place lays off the beaten path, off a main artery through this area and then off that on a gravel road. It sits inside a building that looks much like one of the newer barn structure you would find on any of the farm properties that lay within the Pennsylvania countryside.
Inside there are old auditorium seats placed in rows with walking aisles down each sides of them. People must come early here and stake their claims in seats well before the auctions start. Items up for auction remind you of items that you can buy in bulk at local and chain stores. But much, much cheaper. When you walk in you must register, where you give your information such as your ID and credit card information. Once you clear that you then are given a paddle with a number on it. You use this paddle to claim the item you desire. Do not fret, as there are usually multiples of each item.
When the auctioning begins it much different than a traditional auction. When an item comes up the price starts high and then lowers; lowers enough until someone really wants the item. At that point the price starts to go up until there is no one else interested. After that, once the price is set, the audience is asked whether they want the item. As everyone is finished, they move on. Once you, yourself, are finished with your intake of the auction, you go to where you checked in, pay for your items and you are on your way.
Also if you plan on being here for a while, they have a concessions area to buy the usual food that would appear at a concession. I cannot speak of the value or taste of the food, so I won't be going back into that. read more
