The outdoor dining area is fully covered and big with plenty of tables. Don't drop your keys or coins as it will go through the floor. The view is pretty good too. There were four of us and we all had something different. The quiche was "lovely"; the sauce on the hamburger was good; plenty in fisherman's basket but the pot pie was the pick. It is a bit of a drive from civilisation so make a day of it. Remember it is cash only and no cards.

There is indoor and outdoor hangout spots and if it's cold .... who cares !!! ..... so many heaters you could bring your wet laundry and dry it while chilling. Every drink option is available ....... heaps of pool tables in one room ..... although usually full of youthful faces ...... the food is great ..... also so many choices you might be slapped into making a decision. They have 4 comfortable but basic cabins if you want to get away to the country without travelling too far.

Drive to Wisemans Ferry, take the ferry across the Hawkesbury, and drive north another 20 minutes. Just as the bitumen runs out you'll find the tiny village of St Albans. Cross over the one-lane wooden bridge and you'll nearly run right into the Settlers Arms. This is an old convict-built pub. It's a large stone building with little, dark, wooden rooms. They serve pie & mash and fish & chips and ploughman's lunches and other savoury treats. It's a simple, tasty feed. They have a the typical beers and wines and spirits available, but they also have their own hand-pumped ale. Proper, too, just below room temperature and tastes of twigs, like an ale should. I never drink anything else when I'm there. There's a dining room inside, but I imagine it only gets used in the winter. Because everyone sits, eats, and drinks outside. There are dozens of wooden tables and benches outside, under the eaves, under the spanning trees. Dogs meander, children run: it's a great community feel. Out back there's green lawn and more tables and, likely on weekends, someone sining or strumming a tune. If you in April, around Anzac Day, you might catch the St Albans Folk Festival. http://www.stalbansfolkfestival.com.au/ It's held on the grounds just down the lane from the pub, and while it's worth the few dollars entry you can usually catch most of the musicians drinking and eating and playing for free in the grounds of the pub. An amazing property set in a deep valley on the Central Coast, Glenworth Valley offers everything from horse riding, kayaking, quad biking, even camping. I have only ever experienced the horse riding here which is great fun. For $75 you're taken out for two hours on one of the three trails. The best trail is the 'waterfall trail' which on a hot day you can jump off and take a dip in. If you're an experienced rider they will let you take off on your own, which is very rare. I like doing this if I am alone as I can set the pace I want to go at. It gets a bit trickier if you're stuck with a group of people and you're forced to go at a pace you don't want to but that is sort of luck of the draw. You can always rejoin the group if this happens. The horses are pretty stock standard riding school horses that come with riding school attitude and tricks. When you first arrive they try to put you with a horse that matches your riding level but honestly I think this is a bit of a farce - I once asked for a particular horse who they said wasn't out on that day, but then another lady rode him on my ride! I got over it in the end, but I wasn't pleased at the time. If you can try to book in advance on a quieter day - check they have no tour groups that day as you'll be in for a long wait and pretty boring ride.

And the best bit - kangaroos! Loads of 'em! They're thoughtfully placed around the course to stop your ball from going into the woods - or that's how I used them anyway. Sorry about that, Skip! There's also some water for you to lose your ball in, which is always fun. A round will cost you $80 on a weekday ($92 on weekends), so it's a bit more expensive than a round in one of the courses closer to the city, but it's definitely worth it if you're a golf enthusiast wanting to try somewhere a bit different. And if you're from overseas, where else will you get roos on a course?! It's technically a golf resort, so you could make a weekend of it, so perhaps a good idea for a guys weekend away! Or girls weekend away (don't want to be sexist!).

Great course played yesterday and fold front nine closed for maintenance with front nine of new…read morecourse in operation, this new course is more difficult than it looks and will provide a challenge to golfers of all levels. The remaining nine holes of the new course open in March 2014 giving 36 holes. The new owners have worked hard to bring this course back to the standard it was when known as PGA National and the Australian PGA was played there. Over the years there have been changes to the old back nine on 12,15,17 and 18 changes from par 5's to 4's and reverse which I believe have significantly improved the layout. At $70 for 18 holes with cart on weekend is good value for a course of this calibre and I look forward to playing it again when the new course is completed.

The restaurant (Manfredi at Bells) has fantastic food, though a limited menu if staying for more than one meal. Service at the restaurant is stunning, can't say enough good things about the wait staff - courteous, attentive and, most importantly, not in your way when you don't need them to be. Unfortunately, hotel staff are a different matter. Reception are a bit meh, and don't seem to care when you've got issues with your accommodation. They seem to have multiple systems for the estate because housekeeping can't seem to see when people have booked into other areas of the estate to see when a convenient time is to clean the room. Yes, I know it's pedantic, but it's a bloody expensive stay, so you expect amazing service. When your heating doesn't turn on and your air con is broken, and the reception doesn't seem to believe you and takes four hours to respond to your request, and then can't fix it themselves, it doesn't endear you to their service quality. When your toiletries are watered down, I'm the first one to cry "First world problems", but again, you're paying a lot of money for this level of service so you expect it to be top notch. So, lessons for Killcare - invest in another maintenance person in case one is busy - cross training is essential - I don't care if one is picking up a helicopter from the next estate, all I care is that I'm spending a bloody cold day in a five star resort with no heating. Another lesson - track your guests - invest in the software to see their whereabouts pop up on your restaurant reservation system so you don't leave messages on their phone when the place has no cell coverage. And finally - your reception is your front of house - it's the bastion of welcome, first and last. Make sure they are trained well and give them the tools to make their guests feel welcome, not make their guests feel like they are getting in your way.
